  1. And now they've gone and won a series against my flaccid Royals.
  2. Oh, I just happened to be watching that, and it was brutal!
  3. Yeah, that was super anti-climactic. Two best sides in Europe, my ass.
  4. It may not be a question of "truth," but just being "wrong." If I make a prediction that turns out badly, I haven't lied, I've just gotten it wrong. Or, I haven't gotten it right, yet, maybe.
  5. Or, to put it another way, they can delay releasing them as long as they'd like . . . or never, for that matter. In the meantime, they can hope people will buy the occasional back catalogue item.
  6. Cowboys over the Bills twice in the early '90s. Chiefs over the 49ers twice in the early '20s. Generally, the rematches have not gone well for me: Cowboys-Steelers? Nope. Liverpool v AC Milan? Nope. Chiefs-Eagles? Nope. For teams I had no rooting interest in, watching the Bulls finally get over on the Pistons in the early '90s was great fun.
  7. Good first cut! Now we're dealing with some good ones. I voted for "Whiskey in the Jar" even though Lynott apparently hated it! Take that, posterity!
  8. So the gold in 1980 wasn't counted as a World Championship?
  9. Man, what a season. I wish the 'pool had finished stronger, but the job was done weeks ago, and that, too, is a testament to a good team. I'm glad most of the pieces will be back, and I wish TAA well in Madrid, until we have to face them, at least. Salah continues to be amazing. We'll see who they add in the summer. What a view from up here!
  10. Meanwhile, the Royals keep testing the limits of how few runs a team with a winning record can score. Anybody got a couple of big hitters you'd like to trade for some nobodies?
  11. "Remember that thou, too, art mortal, and will die."
  12. This one hurts. As much as I have loved Tull over the years, it's not usually the guitar that stands out, although I do hear the excellence, but if you went down to the market square and grabbed the nearest rock music fan, that kid could tell you who Angus Young is. I know there's the school uniform schtick, but Young is behind some of the most famous "guitar-driven rock music" songs in the whole of the genre! He's iconic in a way the more anonymous Barre isn't. I've made a similar argument for Jimmy Page, and I think I'll apply the same logic here, so my vote goes for Young. Let there be rock.
  13. Oh, great! Now I'm gonna read all your posts hearing Fran Drescher's voice! "Go Steelahs!" This poll's an easy win for Schenker, I should think.
  14. Apologies if this the Xth iteration of a topic like this, but I was looking at my iTunes library recently, and I said to myself, "How many of these bands was I introduced to thanks to the other members of TRF?" So I made a list. Some of these bands I had heard of, and some I'd heard, but thanks to the endorsement (or even casual mention) of somebody whose taste I respect, I gave them a more thorough chance and came to really enjoy their stuff. Arranged in no particular order: Genesis Mastodon Ghost Nightwish Biffy Clyro Bloody Hammers Elder The Sword UFO Thanks, y'all! Always ready to add some more . . .
  15. That's a handy way to uncouple "time" and "time frame" from the equation.
  16. I'm really pulling for the Maple Leafs, so that's probably the kiss of death for them. Glad they dragged it back to Toronto, but will the psychic pressure of the home crowd and media crush them?
  17. Carded out in the game, as in, they had to finish with seven on the pitch, or as in they can't play the next game?
  18. This is the Bataan March of polls! But I've come this far, so I'll brass it out.
  19. One of the few actors to play a Bond villain and an ally! RIP
