  1. This album doesn't come close to Grace Under Pressure, or anything from HYF to Counterparts, VT and arguably SA. I wholeheartedly agree with everything up the S&A comment...
  2. LMAO - - - Portnoy would do a collaboration with The Backstreet Boys if he had the chance... What a joke... :laughing guy:
  3. Big difference between adopting certain elements and ripping off
  4. Headlong Flight is my favorite track on the album. That upwardly bent note at the very end of Alex's solo is so cool...
  5. "BU2B2 is a complete miss..." Couldn't agree more. I just don't get it...
  6. Rather odd that you exclude the debut? Purposely or oversight?
  7. "Well, it has a nice production quality to it..." ~ LOLOL... If I were forced to come up with something nice to say about S&A.... Ok... Gimme a sec... Ok... Ummm... Uhhh.... Alright.... ummm... Ok... I'll get back to you on that one ;)
  8. "...feels like longer than the director's cuts of Lord of the Rings".... LMAO... That's funny as hell :laughing guy:

    Albums with 7 songs

    Journey: "Journey"
  10. I consider myself to be an old-school Rush fanatic, that is, I absolutely love their first 8 albums...Excellent material. (I am sure there are some of you that will consider an "old-school" love of their music to encompass, perhaps, less or more than their first 8 albums). In any event, I consider the next grouping of albums through CP to be great material (with the exception of Presto/RTB... just good material). After CP, it my personal opinion that Test4Music is passable at best and that VT and S&A are detritus (except for maybe one or two songs between the two of them). My real point is that when I first heard CA, I lumped it in with VT and S&A. I know that prior to first hearing it, I had pre-judged the album. Subsequently, I forced myself to listen to CA again and again with no more than a tepid reaction. However, after a few recent spins of CA, I have come to believe that it is a super album. I think my epiphany stems from the fact that I had a closed mind going in to each listen of the album. For what it's worth, I now love CA and consider it to be one of their great works, although I still cannot stomach T4Music (except for Virtuality) and I run from VT or S&A. What was your first reaction to CA?
  11. Test For Echo is NOT a 10/10 Maybe a 9/9.5.... I needed a good laugh
  12. This could be a word-for-word review of RUSH's debut album. :) Geddy's voice on Rush's debut was not only not "thin" in the upper registers, but it was far more diverse and powerful than GVF's vocalist will ever dream of having. Not a good comparison imo...

  14. Test For Echo is NOT a 10/10 Test For Music is about as far from a 10/10 as Hemispheres is from a 1/10....
  15. I like the whole album, including Tai Shan. It is just another face of the band that shows how diverse they can be. I'll take Tai Shan over most of the crap they try to pawn off as music these days. :rush:
  16. To give a fair shot to those who have indicated that GVF reminds them of Rush, I went and listened to about 10 of GVF's tunes off of a You Tube mix. Shameless Zep rip? ? ? Indeed... Rush? ? ? Sorry, don't hear it...

    Bravado

    One of my very favorites~
  18. To me his vocals are easily the worst thing about them. Really, really, REALLY annoying :P I was gonna say, "Yeah, and Justin Bieber can really, really, REALLY sing too"... But I like your comment way better...
  19. If they sound like Rush, then Rush sounds like Iron Maiden
  20. And I must add, it is readily apparent that she was under Pratt's tutelage at some point in her life~
  21. My eyes have just been opened and they're open very wide
  22. Being the drummer of the most popular musical act of the last century might have a lot to do with it. It's not like he sucks anyways. He doesn’t suck but he isn’t great either. Depends on your definition of great. A great drummer imo knows when to play what, and always plays to serve the tune. Peart is surprisingly a great example of this, as his complex and machinelike style compliment the overall complexity of Rush's songs perfectly. Meanwhile, Ringo's extremely straightforward approach (with a slight quirk caused by a lefty playing a right handed kit setup) compliments the Beatles' very straightforward songs quite well. And when their songs aren't so straightforward, Ringo provides a simple backbone for the rest of the instruments to revolve around. I'm not saying the tunes would suck with a more technically skilled drummer, but I think Ringo's simplistic approach actually adds to their quality in a way many other drummers couldn't. Besides, I doubt you could find many drummers out there who are willing to bash his work, even the most technically proficient of them. "The drummer is there to set the time and to complement, but not to overplay and overshadow the rest of the band. . ." So, are you suggesting that Neil "overplayed" or "overshadowed" Alex and Ged? IMO, he did not. I think they were all complimentary to each other. If there was a drummer that overplayed or overshadowed the rest of the band, in my opinion, it would have been Portnoy in DT (although they all overplay)...
