  1. What does conservative mean in this context? It's very easy if you're economically right wing or neo-liberal. A bit harder if you're a social conservative.

  3. http://i.imgur.com/k7sQAiM.jpg I need to get new paint on these walls
  4. I'm trying to pinpoint the year Geddy had his teeth done; all I know so far is that he still had the tooth gap during A Show of Hands.
  5. This is practically unrelated, but I have a crush on Rupert Hine and so I'm willing to convince myself that the production on Presto was alright. I mean, to my ears Roll the Bones has really nice production, even if it's a little soft when it could've been a hard rock album, and Presto sounds thin but it's not an unpleasant production quality to me; not like their modern-era albums. I think that if anything, Rupert steered them back into a more suitable direction. From what I understand in the Rush documentary, it was Rupert's idea to force Ged to give up the synths.
  6. Glad you're enjoying Clockwork Angels, Segue. Not everyone shares in my love for Carnies. It's strange, cause personally it's Headlong Flight that has been difficult to like for me. I don't really like the vocals.
  7. Segue, we talked Garbage a little bit in the Albums thread and also a bit today in the video chat. This is one of my favorite Garbage songs, and it's off Beautiful Garbage, the "bad" Garbage album. If you're getting back into them, start with the debut as usual, but I think Shirley's at her very best vocally in Beautiful Garbage. Enough yammering, anyway. Here's Nobody Loves You. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gOyXhFDlOM
  8. +1 for Townsend And Ayreon. You will never ever hear Ayreon live, but the choruses are huge and the harmonies are huger.
  9. Also I know Digital Dad isn't frequenting this thread anymore, but here are some reasons I liked Meliora: -the vocals don't hurt my ears -the vocals are actually really quite sexy to my ears -it's a palatable record. call it anemic if you'd like, but i don't like any type of "extreme" music, and i find that ghost pull off the doom metal, heavy metal aspect very cleanly and enjoyably, which makes it an album i don't have to convince myself to like, i just like it. -production is dynamic and the instrumentation is clean Regardless of whether you dislike the style, it's a competent record, and it's easy to see why it'd be well-liked, even within a genre that prides itself on being inaccessible to the average listener. I can see Ghost being a gateway band to Lamb of God, Sevendust, etc as opposed to just being immediately barraged with those bands straight on and being like "ugh no thank you", as I did when I was first introduced to them.
  10. I'm one of those people who judge bands based on how they look. I think they pull off the costumes really well and adds to the image of the band. It adds interest. To me it looks like they care for their appearance (regardless of what that appearance is). In general I'm really impressed and I'm going to try getting my hands on some of their albums as well. I'm excited for Ghost. It seems like a lot of people like them.
  11. Aight I'm off! It was fun talking with you guys. We should do this again sometime.
  12. Mick, Union and I are in a video chat right now; join! there's girls! https://rabb.it/GuyIncognito
  13. bae = baby rekt = wrecked. this needs explanation. in video games, whenever you have beaten somebody really hard, you have "rekt" them. i've started applying this term to real life situations in which somebody gets dealt an unfortunate hand: "rekt by that exam", "girlfriend broke up with you? rekt." dank = well... dank. it's an adjective, rose to prominence in stoner communities and then online communities. you can apply it to anything, really. dank memes, dank weed, dank show. it's never appropriate in any situation, which is why it is the universal trashy adjective. For reference, I've never smoked weed, know close to no stoners, and yet I use this word, because its meaning has diluted that much. ayy = an interjection. you pronounce it as it's written: "ayyyyyy" for extra dankness (i laugh at my own jokes). there was an internet meme where bad jokes get followed up by "ayy lmao", but I like saying it on its own as a greeting. It's like my "yo." And yes, Segue, I get you. I get you too well and it's embarassing. Also the way I explained these terms makes me feel like I'm not speaking english anymore. DID SOMEONE SAY DANK MEMERINOS!? dank fuel can't melt steal memes

  15. Nah it's not worth it. I'd skip it.
  16. All of their cover, commercial and promotional art is gorgeous.
  17. Earl should do a song-by-song commentary on The Astonishing. I'd pay money to see it.
  18. Counterparts is the Rush midlife crisis. Modern-era Rush is the point where your grandfather starts saying racist shit cause he doesn't care about what people think anymore. I'm only kidding. I enjoy those albums.
  19. Actually what I've noticed with a lot of well-produced metal music is how dynamic and rich it is. It's not necessary for the effectiveness of the genre, nor is it a simple inevitability of recording heavy metal music. The "loudness" of CA and VT (and subsequently, its relative monotony and, to my ears, quietness) is the fault of Rush.
