  1. I Think I'm Going Bald definitely sounds more like debut material; as mentioned Vital Signs sounds like Signals. I think a lot of AFTK and Hemispheres sound interchangeable. And SnA sounds like a bonus disc of outtakes from My Favorite Headache.
  2. My fave Stones LP along with Sticky Fingers and Satanic Majesties.
  3. Agree on fave song; disagree on least fave. For me that (dis)honor belongs to Emotion Detector.
  4. GuP has always been meh to me... The production is so flat and impersonal. The songs are so much better live. But I will agree that the cover art is great.
  5. I'd love to hear some reasons! Overall the albums music and lyrics really related to where I was in my life at the time it was released. Subdivisions - I was 17 when Signals came out and lived in a small town, sort of the suburbs, and the lyrics just related to me so very much. And the video with the kid playing the same video games I was playing in the local arcades. Analog Kid - I was that kid who just liked to dream about a bigger and better life. The imagery in the song continues to move me ..... The Weapon - One of my all time favorite Rush songs. Losing It - the idea of aging and losing "it"..whatever "it" was, has always been in my thoughts. I was 20 when Signals was released and I was already losing it... ;) :P I was around 10.
  6. My favorite track on the album. I am not sure why I held back a perfect score, but truth be told it's not a song I've ever ranked as high as others. Losing It? Used to play it on its own all the time Losing It is great.
  7. Yes! Was beginning to wonder what happened. For me Signals was a grower. So much synthesizer! But overtime it has become a top shelf record for me. Well I decided to break up my Rush marathon because the more I listen the more tired and critical I get. I want to encourage talk about these albums so want as fresh a mindset and focus as possible! Also, once you get passed Moving Pictures, I find I never quite get as much from the majority of their albums. It was so easy to spin the seventies records endlessly. But yeah, the albums I least listen too are: Signals Power Windows Counterparts Test For Echo Feedback So I may actually spin these a few times before starting a thread, so that I can get more of an opinion on the songs. I barely know Power Windows. I get it. A fresh perspective helps.
  8. Always felt like a cross between Vital Signs and Spirit of Radio to me ... It comes off as sorta generic but generally pleasing. I listen to it more now than I used to in the past.

    Freeze

Peaceable Kingdom and Ghost Rider should've been axed, or at the very least resequenced. They just kill the vibe of the first half of VT. Having said that overall I really like that album.
  11. Sound issues aside Rio was a legendary show and I love the DVD if only for the spirit of what that tour represented. Don't really listen to the CD much so I'll be skipping this one on vinyl.

    Ranking Rush

Your rankings are pretty good except CP is way too high. And RTB too low. Fixed Nah CP is great.

  14. I have always felt that had Rush called Caress of Steel The Fountain of Lamneth and put that epic on side A it may have performed better. Maybe not the way 2112 performed, but I think it might have made more sense to the casual listener. Its the template they followed on 2112 And Hemispheres. Which, by the way, are perfect the way they are.
  15. Noticed that too. 2nd half of the show it's better.
  16. I think that guy was their bodyguard at the time.
  17. That excerpt has a bit of a different answer than what I heard. I heard a full recording of the interview I was referring to (recorded in Philly or thereabouts). The only reason I have it is because someone I knew through the old My Favorite Headache website was lucky enough to be at the radio station interview and got a full recording. She then burned it and mailed it to me. IF I still have it, it could be in some old closet of mine or lost in a move. Yea I knew my quote was from a different source. Just thought it was interesting that in this particular instance he chose not to name the individual.
  18. Speaking of characters, the song "Home On The Strange" describes a pretty unusual individual: "He's a Canadian icon/He sleeps with his clothes on/He likes to work with his hands/He's an apolitical man/And he doesn't like to change." Anyone in particular? A: It was inspired by someone I worked with along the way. It is just somebody who had these very defined habits. "He sleeps with a chainsaw." For real? A: He actually does when he's camping! It got me thinking of a type of Canadian that I have met, that is very upright, hard-working and not at all ambitious. It is just a character study in a way, but it got me thinking of that type of person, and how many of them I have met in my 40-odd years. There's an ambiguity in the lyrics, though ... A: Oh no, I think these are the characters that make up the human race. I am all for this guy. He is part of our fabric. You need that in the context of whatever else we have in terms of personalities we live with. It is not a criticism. It is an odd thing to look at, but to me, it is the individuals who make up a country and the unique characters that make the world go round. You want to tell me who the song is about? A: Nah. I don't want to embarrass him. Does he know you wrote a song about him? A: He will when he hears it. It's too much fun not to say. http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/transcripts/20001108jam.htm
