  1. "You Really Got Me" isn't heavy in the slightest, and "Born To Be Wild" and "Summertime Blues" are just noisy psychedelic rock, if those are metal than so is Jimi Hendrix and Cream. I think the first "metal" song is "Helter Skelter", followed by "Dazed And Confused" and "21st Century Schizoid Man".
  2. My fav on the album is "The Enemy Within", with "Red Sector A" and "Between The Wheels" right behind. Controversially my least favorite is "Distant Early Warning" which I hate for the same reasons I hate "New World Man", as in, not really having any solid melody and just trying to imitate the Police. I'm fine with "Red Lenses", it's an interesting "mysterious" tune that reminds me a bit of "Mystic Rhythms" and in a good way.
  3. I hope there's some vault stuff. That was sorely missing from the 40th anniversary 2112, as there was just two outtakes from ATWAS and "The Twilight Zone" from the D.C 1977 bootleg, which was off-pitch. I'm disappointed they didn't do stuff like this for the 40th anniversaries of Rush, Fly By Night, and Caress of Steel. They had deluxe vinyl editions but no additional material, which is disappointing, a bit of extra live stuff (like the radio broadcasts, or maybe a mythical COS official show) would be nice.
  4. They're still number one for me (Though then again i'm only 15)
  5. None of those are true. Sheesh, this reads like a terrible Rolling Stone review from the '70s.
  6. ATWAS would be up there, but I think it MIGHT be overdubbed, the vocals sound a little too perfect, for example.
  7. Different Stages '78. Packed with '70s epics, Geddy at his peak, and NO overdubs.
  8. Sorry for the late response, but happy b-day! This is a very underrated album, it's 40 minutes of top-notch, balls-to-the wall rock and roll. Working Man, Before and After, Here Again, What You're Doing, Finding My Way, even Take A Friend, they're all great.
  9. It really does suck that I never got the chance to see them live, but i'm glad they ended on a high note.
  10. BUMP! Updated my list: 1. BU2B 2. 2112 Grand Finale 3. Cygnus X-1 Part III 4. Working Man 5. Double Agent
  11. In terms of Geddy's voice, the 2112, ATWAS, and AFTK Tours. His '70s voice at it's absolute finest. In terms of performance the Signals/GUP era, the energy was outstanding.
  12. For each tour: SnA: Circumstances and A Passage To Bangkok (Two rare gems that i'm glad they unearthed) TMT: The Camera Eye (Same reasons) CA: Unsure, one of the new songs? R40: Jacob's Ladder and Losing It (Ultra-rare tracks that Geddy's new voice works best with, IMO)
  13. Ozzy's Boneyard isn't a metal station. They play Zep, they play AC/DC, they play Van Halen, they play Queen.
  14. Shake It Off is one of my least favorite (Non-rap) songs of the decade, for example, so I give it to Tai Shan.
  15. I saw Yes do the "Revealing Science of God" and "Ritual" sections when they played live last August, I loved them!
  16. Time to gush over Limbo! A very underrated instrumental from Test For Echo. The wordless vocals give me chills every time!
  17. I also hate country, cheesy sugary fluff pop, extreme metal, and show tunes. None of those have appealing melodies to me.
  18. Here's an awesome live performance of 2112!
  19. I say rap music is the worst. I heavily value melody in music and I haven't found a SINGLE rap song with a good melody. They're all just lame drum beats over speaking.
  20. Comedic videos have been a staple since the R30 Tour, such as "Real history of Rash" on the TM Tour. "Darn That Dragon" from the R30 tour's great too.
  21. I wouldn't call Rush a "cult" band. When I think of cult bands I think of under-the-radar groups like Frank Zappa, Ween, Neutral Milk Hotel, Phish, and The Grateful Dead. But Rush aren't in the top 10 most famous bands. Off the top of my head: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Rolling Stones, The Who, AC/DC, Beach Boys, U2, and Aerosmith are all more popular. Rush have had many hits but aren't as popular as those, you're more likely to be familiar with those bands.
  22. Not sure as a showman. I liked Ozzy's VOICE better than David's, a very unique voice, no one could sing Sabbath as good as him. DLR's voice was pretty average. But of course Ozzy can't sing at all now.
  23. That was back in the 1970s, though. And back then, since there wasn't much heavy metal music, they used the term to define bands like AC/DC, KISS, Van Halen, Rush, Zep, Purple, and Queen, who are now considered hard rock due to later bands.
  24. I agree. Sabbath laid the groundwork, with their dark, menacing riffs and down-tuned guitars. Having ballads doesn't make you non-metal.
  25. I'd say Sabbath were a metal band early on, they lightened up around SBS or so. The other two aren't metal though. Though they WERE considered metal back in the day, because they were heavier than other bands of the day. But now, they're hard rock, due to bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and Metallica definining the term more. Times change, definitions change. For Zeppelin, "Whole Lotta Love" is heavy blues rock. "Dazed and Confused" is much closer to metal, IMO. And for Rush, "Anthem" and "Something For Nothing" aren't that heavy. More on the metal side are stuff like "Working Man", "By-Tor And The Snow Dog", parts of "2112" and "Cygnus X-1", "One Little Victory", "BU2B" and maybe "Caravan". "Rivendell" and "Madrigal" are NOT metal in the slightest. Lyrical subject matter doesn't play much of a role. Rush never really had a heavy edge, they were always hard rock, and all traces of metal really disappeared around AFTK/Hemispheres. Also, defining the terms, because it would help clear things up a bit more: Hard rock music has a lighter sound than metal, often blusier, with more "happy", upbeat melodies. Alongside Rush, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, KISS, Deep Purple, Van Halen, and more are hard rock. Metal, on the other hand, has a heavier, darker, sound, with no blues elements and more menacing melodies. Classic metal bands include Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Dio, and Rainbow. Rush fall under hard rock. There's a big difference between, say "A Farewell to Kings" and "A Passage To Bangkok" and "Electric Funeral", "Aces High", "Stargazer", and "Exciter".
