  1. Unlike Xanadu, I don't feel that The Fountain Of Lamneth is about one particular person or character - I think that it is more about life - everyone's life, and their journey ... The different sections represent a different point and time in life - "In The Valley" represent birth and first experiences in life ... "Didacts and Narpets" is a really unique section - pretty creative, even though it is mainly drums .. It has opposition views being shouted back and forth, apparently between figures of authority and the rebellious spirit of the teenage years ... Neil has said that a "Didact" is a teacher, and that "Narpet" is an anagram from "parent" ... "No One At The Bridge" feels as if Neil was attempting to convey a period of isolation and feelings of being alone in the world ... "Panacea" speaks of the discovery of love and happiness in life - finding out that life in not a place of loneliness .... "Bacchus Plateau" refers to the time in life in which things begin to grow old - life slows down .... And "The Fountain" , I feel, represents the idea that there is always constant searching in life - for example, in the beginning, we want to learn and grow and get older, yet at the end, we desperately seek out youth .... "Life is just a candle and a dream must give it flame" I don't see the end as dying - what I feel from the end song is that life is cyclical, or circular - and that, perhaps, the generally accepted pattern as explained throughout the song is the common road traveled, but perhaps not the best road .. Interesting question Mom - you got me listening to the song now, and going thru all the lyrics :D .
  2. lol, that's the spirit !! Natural Scientist, Cinderella Man is coming to mind - keep up the good work
  3. ok, I must have the version that has 12 verses ;) All joking aside - I like Rivendell, esp Alex's guitar - the volume swells on the electric are fantastic .. But if I never heard the lyric "elven" again, I would be very very happy
  4. For me, Permanent Waves sits right at Number 7 - right behind everything that was released before it Love Jacob's Ladder as much as anything they ever did - but on the whole, the vibe for the entire album doesn't quite draw me in as much as its predecessors .. Still, it is awesome
  5. Just found this old ad - maybe the heading was an inside joke ?? :) http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/coverpics/ModernDrummerFeb1994promark.jpg
  6. Natural Science will apparently be rotated in. Many members are saying Jacobs (never been played before) Ladder will be rotated out. So if NS is coming in, you are effectively saying, rotate out JL or Xanadu, as opposed to rotating out One Little Victory or Animate? I saw them May 1980 at The Palladium in NYC, and one of my top memories of that is when they played Jacob's Ladder - I love the fact that they are bringing it back - Jacob's Ladder is in my Top 3 all time Lucas, that's my point. Save Jacobs Ladder for everyone. They have almost never played JL until tonite. Many members are saying Natural Science will be rotated in at the expense of JL. I think Geddy actually said they never played it in concert. I have heard they played it a few times right after it was released. The first set was good, reminded me of about 25 Rush concerts I have seen the last 2-3 decades. The second set brought me back to seeing them in 1981, 1982 (even on that grainy video, but the sound was great tonite on periscope). Would be devastated if one of the shows I am at and Jacob is rotated out. I completely agree - here's the first video on you tube ... They need to keep it in all the shows - it is in Geddy's range, and it sounds great ... The lighting is amazing
  7. The vibe during Jacob's Ladder is amazing - !!!!! I would consider this a religious experience !!!!!
  8. Jacob's Ladder video from Tulsa ... The light show is incredible - so much better than the video screens I have goosebumps watching this - what an incredible song

  10. The Cult and Bonham - Jan 1990 at The Spectrum in Philly I was really into The Cult at the time, but they were bad - it didn't help that the stage was set at half-court, with an enormous curtain blocking off what seemed like 20,000 empty seats Bonham was terrible I still like the old Cult stuff from the 80s up to Electric - but that night, they were anything but

  12. I guess this could be considered relevant, albeit not in regards to the debut: In 1987, Dixon received an out-of-court settlement from Led Zeppelin after suing them for plagiarism, in relation to their use of his music for "Bring It On Home" and his lyrics from his composition "You Need Love" (1962) for their track "Whole Lotta Love .
  13. I assume you have never heard the "original" versions of the songs Led Zeppelin claimed as their own ? Three acknowledged covers, a total rip off with Dazed And Confused, and "uncredited" parts from old blues songs from which Page never though he'd get caught .. With RUSH, you can hear the influence ... With Led Zep's debut, they simply stole - from small musicians that couldn't compete on the business end You need a history lesson, son. And I'm not sure in what world Dixon is considered a small musician. LZ stole, sure, but they made what they stole uniquely their own. Then tell me how many Zep fans in the 70s knew who Jake Holmes was .... How Page got a copyright on that song is completely against a musician's code of ethics .. And as history points out, Willie Dixon was credited, as Zep COVERED two of his songs on that debut ( although Dixon would later go on to sue Zep, and win a settlement, based on copyright infringement for other tracks ) ... Dixon was not who I was referring to anyway ... My point here is don't go chastising RUSH for showing their influences, while comparing to an album that was full of blatant theft .. . .

  15. Segue, can we have a little backup on this one ? http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03054/abba_3054901b.jpg
  16. I can only say that I enjoy these bands as much as RUSH: - Dead Boys - YES - AKB48 - Thin Lizzy and of course http://cdn.makeagif.com/media/10-11-2014/9K6ZoF.gif
  17. Now that is ludicrous. Both Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures still had a lot in common with 70s Rush. The guitar riffs, the song structures, even the sound. Signals was the album that sounded completely different, and of course the following albums even more so... Well, pardon me for having an opinion. I agree with you, Lorraine, that MP is very different from the Kings thru Waves sound. In many ways it reminded me of the sound of 2112, modernized. Great tone on both albums. (I know you don't care for 2112 song wise) Just so you know, it's not that I don't care for the 2112 songs, it's just that to my ears, the album sounds more dated than anything else (excluding the Debut) they did in the seventies. Interesting. Very. I don't quite get it but we all have our tastes and opinions. I love with a capital L every bit of 2112... . .... and I love with the CAPS LOCK ON every bit of the debut

  19. While the roots of it go back pretty far, I loved a lot of the cowpunk bands that hit their stride in the 90s ... Dash Rip Rock, Supersuckers, Jason And The Scorchers, Rev Horton Heat - and bands like Social Distortion who began to incorporate country into their music .. Mike Ness really came into his own during that time - I love the guy
  20. I have seen that one before. I just wish it said "2112" instead of "In The Mood". I just sent a question to that seller on eBay .. I asked if they could print one that said 2112 instead Please let us know how this turns out! I actually have this one right now, but In the Mood is one of my least favorite Rush songs. I bought because I like the overall design, especially the Rush logo at the top. Ididn't think to ask about having one customized because I assumed this was a leftover batch of already manufactured frames from the 70s. Unfortunately, the seller didn't respond to my question I don't think they are vintage/old stock - the seller has a lot of different plate holders for other bands, etc - the Frank Zappa one looks to use a typical modern computer font oh well ... I love the song In The Mood, but it just doesn't seem to fit

  22. I haven't read every post here yet, so I don't know if anyone has mentioned Dream Theater ... I cannot stand them .. I do like when bands incorporate their chops into music and will bring influences from all over - Rush, Return To Forever, Yes, Voivod off the top on my head ... But Dream Theater is so damn pretentious and planned - cringe worthy
