  1. Rush are emerging as one of my favourite ever bands. I just can't get enough of them! And NO ONE I KNOW LIKES THEM! I went to my local record store lately, one of the last independent stores in the country, and they sell a lot of obscure rubbish and I mean REALLY OBSCURE. In the middle the countryside a good hours drive from the nearest city, one can walk into a tiny shop and buy Ayreon's latest album in any format. You may find some odd, badly reviewed black metal, random jazz artists, pop rubbish and a lot of peculiar new vinyls. So I ask if they had the latest Rush releases. The response? "We never really do well with Rush." And then he proceeds to advertise to me various different (and stunning, might I add) formats for the new Ayreon. Which is about as commercial as my chest hair. Go figure. (Saying that, I did by the Ayreon album, the 2cd-1dvd edition. I have yet to find out how many copies they have sold.)
  2. This album is just amazing. I cannot fault an album I used to find INTOLERABLE! The Big Money is swamping me with awesomeness right now. I think I like it more than Subdivisions, a song I have always found comparable! Its edging close to 10/10. A Farewell To Kings through to Power Windows are all emerging as solid favourites in my collection! I'm glad I'm a new fan: its all old to me, so I have no specific preference for any one "era" in relation to my growing up.
  3. Khoma, The Second Wave ends with the epic One Of Us Must Hang. Leaves me floored every time.
  4. Marathon. I think my favourite era for this band started with 2112 and, rather than ending in MP, progrssed all the way to PoW. Signals, GuP and PoW are all hitting close to perfect on my radar! Right now...Mystic Rhythms.
  5. Want a track by track review? Here is a sample: Cinderella Man- I like it is catchy Xanadu- better than the movie Lists are fine. We have loads of threads to discuss individual songs. Look at those! This thread is simply a newcomers way to introduce himself. Poo you! Welcome Whyareweherecuzwerehere! Catchy name! I love that song! (Just have to declare my undying love towards tombstone mountain. He cracks me up like a crab and a hammer)
  6. Adjusted! Phew...goodbye HYF.
  7. I've only started paying attention to "Rush". Oops...Cinderella Man...and Circumstances...and Madrigal...and The Trees... Whoops to many mistakes!
  8. Madrigal is a beautiful little song! Um...not in order but: 1) From "Rush" - "2112" (None from"Rush") 2112 Fly By Night Bastille Day Tears Something For Nothing -5 songs 2) "AFTK" - "MP" A Farewell To Kings Xanadu Closer To The Heart Cygnus X-1 La Villa Strangiato Freewill Entre Nous Natural Science Tom Sawyer Limelight Witch Hunt Madrigal Cinderella Man Circumstances The Trees Hemispheres -15 songs 3) "Signals" - "HYF" (Nothing from "Hold Your Fire") The Analog Kid New World Man Losing It Distant Early Warning Red Sector A Between The Wheels The Big Money Grand Designs Marathon Mystic Rhythms -10 songs 4) "Presto" - "T4E" The Pass Roll The Bones The Big Wheel Animate Between Sun And Moon The Speed Of Love Double Agent Driven -8 songs 5) "VP" - "CA" (None from "Feedback") Ghost Rider Secret Touch Far Cry Armor And Sword Workin' Them Angels Caravan BU2B Clockwork Angels Seven Cities Of Gold Headlong Flight The Garden -11songs My favourite song: 2112 Favourite era: 2112-MP Favourite album: AFTK Least favourite album: Feedback Least favourite song: The Necromancer Least favourite era: the nineties. I like it though!
  9. Dscrapre, you cannot please everybody, unfortunately! To be honest graphic novels are not my cup of tea, but even so I can see the skill and handiwork of telling a story entirely through pictures! I studied film and it amazes me to think it took the best part of a century for so called "experts" to regard film-making as an art form (and much debate still goes on with "higher minded" critics). Pffft. Some people close their minds before, or without, trying to understand. It's like when I hearhpeople dismiss rock and metal as mere noise before properly exploring said genres. Sure, on the surface both genres can appear abrasive and rebellious, but dig a little deeper and its amazing what talent and imagination fuels a lot of artists. On the one hand, we have Slayer, who live up to much of the sterotype (not questioning talent here, just sound). And then on the other, we have recent (uncategorizable) Anathema. And who would say the last two albums have cause to offend? But many choose to ignore what could otherwise have potential to be their favourite artist! The world is full of wonder and invention, so we all have little time to discover everything. But I will admit if any decent titles come my way, I will check them out! Its good advice to keep an open mind. Otherwise bands like Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones and Rush would all have bit the dust decades ago!
  10. I'm not sure if you could say you have the most eclectic taste...nice try! I'm still waiting for someone to post something like: Aqua Dimmu Borgir
  11. The Two Towers: Extended Edition Decided to see these lenghier cuts, and they impress me! I didn't enjoy the theatrical versions overly much, but all these extra scenes add something that should never have been subtracted. Bring on The Return Of The King! I still don't want to toss a dwarf, but the rest of the film looks like loads of fun!
  12. Wow... Beach Noys- so sweet, so talented. Opeth- the early stuff rips my face off, and yet they still sound amazing! However, I still think my top five is all so diverse: 1) Lacuna Coil- amazingly beautiful goth metal/alternative Italian sextet. A lot of haunting songs, and Cristina Scabbia has my all ti.e favourite voice! 2) Khoma- they have four amazing albums, and everyone ignores them! No one seems to know the name, and yet they are a brilliant blend of slow, melancholy indie and crushing, devastating metal! 3) Bruce Springsteen - the finest songwriter in the world. But I ragged on enough about him on this site! 4) Rush- yup. 5) Miles Davis- simply amazing. I don't even like jazz, but his work from the fifties onwards blows my mind!
  13. Wow...I am in love with the whole of Power Windows, and it feels like listening to a completely different album to the one I used to! Talk about a grower! Marathon is my current fave. Power Windows is close to entering my top ten, possibly in a slot behind CA.
  14. I need to pick both these albums up. The Beatles are in a league of their own, and these releases look scrumptious!
  15. SCOG was my favourite when I first heard the album, and after playing the album again recently (since this poll) i have to say, along with Headlong Flight, I think it still is!
  16. Well I would only my camera can't zoom out far enough.
  17. Well...I kept clicking on tje latest reply button and somehow missed that one!
  18. I really enjoyed Thor 2 It has Kat Dennings, she with the naughty mouth and heaving coat racks. Such a beauty, and so funny! She gets 10/10. The film itself is just really silly, however I wish they would take themselves little less seriously. Its frustrating how complicated and boorish a lot of the acting gets with these Marvel films sometimes! But it was fun! I enjoyed it as much as I did the first Iron Man.
  19. Pixar are one of the finest studios ever! For animation, I put them second behind Disney and Studio Ghibli, respectively. Ratatouille and Up are my faves.
  20. Finally decided to watch the extended Lord Of The Rings. Now I get it! Why did I wait so long?
  21. Is it sad that I have this bookmarked? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVZ5cKHHuhw Why have I never heard of this? Why is this not, at the very least, an extra on a live dvd from the era? Thaaaaanks!
  22. Wow! Tough... The Garden Clockwork Angels Caravan BU2B Seven Cities Of Gold Wreckers The Anarchist Wish Them Well Carnies Headlong Flight Halo Effect BU2B2 But to be honest, there are no weak tracks.
  23. I first heard Roll The Bones on Rush In Rio. The rap part is offbeat, but it has always worked for me! Besides, the rest of the song is so good, especially the chorus, I think I'd love it even if I hated the rap part!
  24. I think Clockwork Angels could make an excellent big budget anime, in the vein of Laputa Castle In The Sky with the budget of Steamboy. I think 2112 could have been an amazing eighties sci-fi flick. I think in the hands of Ridley Scott, with Harrison Ford as the hero we could have had a major cult classic on our hands! Oh, how I would love that! With the darkness of Blade Runner and the visual inventiveness of Legend it could have been breathtaking. What a loss...the temple priests would make wonderful movie villains. The Cygnus songs could have been wonderful Star Trek style tv shows...and the Fear series could have been used as a basis for an interesting set of short movies portraying each element. Witch Hunt and Freeze would both fascinate me!
