  1. Great peril I would hope that he would go back and face the peril! No, it's far too perilous!
  2. I can SORT OF relate to this thread. My dad got me hooked on Rush when he had me listen to Lock and Key. Pretty damn weird, since now that I look back, I really can't stand most of Hold Your Fire's sterile synthpop. Also: Counterparts is my favorite Rush album. Yes, I'm dead serious. No, I'm not on drugs.
  3. Dude. It's far too late for me to be laughing that hard. Please stahp. HERE WE GO AGAIN <intro video with dragon> One Little Victory Freewill Working Them Angels Subdivisions Afterimage YYZ The Anarchist Animate The Trees A Farewell To Kings Cut To The Chase Vital Signs Countdown (with some sweetass shuttle footage) Secret Touch <intermission> <video> Tom Sawyer Test For Echo Dreamline Red Barchetta Cold Fire Headlong Flight Drum Solo Different Strings Closer To The Heart 2112 Overture/Temples Of Syrinx/Grand Finale By-Tor and the Snowdog Working Man <encore> Far Cry The Spirit Of Radio La Villa Strangiato Limelight If you can't tell, I love Counterparts.
  4. As soon as I saw the thread's title, I immediately knew one of the first 3 posts in the thread was going to be either someone who hates stuff after Signals or PoW, or someone who stopped after T4E. I was right I love Clockwork Angels. Something is telling me that this will be their last album, though. After this break of theirs, I think it'll be one more tour to finish it off, then they enjoy retirement with bottles of wine and baseball/hockey and some of their own non-Rush writing. I would consider CA being the last as "going out on top", and I am well aware that some people on here would disagree with me. That's okay. They would have to write some killer tracks to top this one. I got the impending Foos album/tour to satisfy me this year since Rush and Maiden are taking a break. I can wait a bit, let them enjoy the break :sundog:
  5. I've always considered Presto as one of Geddy's best vocal albums overall. Not as screechy as the '70s/early '80s and not as toned down and (as on the last couple albums) strained sounding. Say what you will about his production but Rupert Hine was able to make Geddy's singing shine on Presto. I believe that was the goal, if you read some interviews Geddy did Presto was built to be more of a "singer's album". Guess that's part of the reason why I really don't like this album apart from a couple of songs. Lyrics don't mean sh*t to me and I prefer instruments over vocals.
  6. Broon's not coming back, and it's not 1979 anymore. I think we should all get used to that fact. Rush isn't a nostalgia act.
  7. R30 Overture and if you don't count that, Spirit of Radio. St. Louis, MO June 12, 2004
  8. You really shouldn't limit yourself to one era of the group. ATWAS encompasses FOUR albums. Nothing more. If you like ATWAS you'll love Different Stages. This album straight up rocks. The T4E setlist is perfect, a nice blend of stuff from every era, only it's missing material from GUP, PoW, and HYF but if you want that stuff go listen to A Show Of Hands. This has all sorts of 70's goodies including all of 2112, the triumphant return of Natural Science, nice versions of CTTH and The Trees, and it's got plenty of material from the 90's that stands up against the 70's (Stick It Out, Test For Echo, Animate). Of course if you just want the old 70's air raid siren Rush it's got the third disc from the AFTK tour which is also good. Only thing it's missing is 2112, which for some reason was cut from the release. If you want a raw sounding hard rock live album like ATWAS, go listen to Different Stages or Rush in Rio.
  9. I'm probably one out of five people on the whole forum that likes Superconductor... I don't like Hand Over Fist. The only song on Presto I like even less is Show Don't Tell. I'll listen to Chain Lightning, The Pass, Red Tide, Superconductor, and Available Light all day but definitely not HOF.
  10. Fixed for accuracy Fixed again... :) Back to how it was ;) I have to agree...first 3 aren't very good. Led Zeppelin knockoff with some pre-Tommy Shaw Styx flirtation on COS, no thank you! Apart from Working Man and a couple of songs off of Fly By Night I don't go further back than 2112. Other substandard albums: anything from 1987-1991. Counterparts was a welcome return to form.
  11. /scratches head Huh. I think R30 has the best sounding live mix and Snakes and Arrows has the worst. Rio- Geddy isn't loud enough, the crowd is half-doing it for him, but dammit this live album rocks. R30- I think it sounds fine. No complaints. You can actually hear Neil. S&A- THIS is the offender here. Geddy's vocals and bass sound fine, but the guitar and drums sound like you're standing a couple of blocks away from the venue, the crowd is too loud on this one too, and I won't give it a pass like Rio, because unlike this one, you can hear the crowd's complete and utter lunacy in Rio :D Time Machine- Neil is too quiet. Everything else is fine. CA: Neil is too quiet. Alex is a little too far to the left, but he sounds amazing. Everything else is fine.
  12. Not hard to argue with this! But Signals through to Power Windows is very close in quality, and I would argue the bands golden era started with 2112 (but peaked early with AFTK). I actually disagree. Apart from Closer to the Heart and Xanadu, I feel A Farewell to Kings is rather bland. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy. Whatever. Just don't take my Rush card! You aren't alone. I rank AFTK pretty low on the list, though it has some great songs on it, it's just kinda lackluster as a whole. My two cents: My dad got me hooked to these guys at the age of 6. Since then it's been the same: I'm still hooked, and I got to see them for the first time right before my 10th birthday during the R30 tour. Unfortunately I had to miss the Vapor Trails tour cause of school, but the R30 tour was amazing. The guys were on top form, and almost 10 years later I see them for the 7th time, only this time, on the Clockwork Angels tour, and just like the R30 tour, they were on fire, age be damned. Alex melted everyone's faces, Neil practically destroyed his kit, and Geddy sang wonderfully, and I didn't hear any vocal missteps throughout the entire night, granted it was also the last night of the tour in Kansas City so it was their chance to empty the tanks and fire on all cylinders. I was almost in a daze after watching them rip through Grand Finale. More than anything, I love these guys because they possess the live performance capabilities unmatched by any other band except MAYBE Led Zeppelin in '73 before Page's addictions. 30 song setlists, no BS opening acts, a stage setup that blows any sh***y pop "artist" concert out of the water, and the pure musicianship of 3 nerdy fellows who deliver time and time again. I find myself listening to their live albums more than their studio albums, particularly Rush in Rio and R30, and most recently the CA one, which matches the fire the other two have. Apart from their unmatched live performances, they have the uncanny ability to stay relevant in the music industry decade after decade. Their albums will always sell, and unlike some of their musical peers (fake-Yes, Styx, and who even cares about Tull anymore), when they release an album, it stands up tall next the music released at the time, without sounding dated. I'm out. /mic drop
  13. 1) They're not into portly, balding fellows. 2) They have reasonably good vision. Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder, friend.
  14. Something tells me he won't like that (the people jumping out at him). He's the member of the band that shies away from publicity, Alex and Geddy usually take care of that stuff.
  15. There's probably a few from Power Windows to Presto that might work. Territories and Superconductor immediately come to mind.
  16. WHOOPS my bad lol Bastille Day? Here's my chance at redemption: http://www.stockphotopro.com/photo-thumbs-2/stockphotopro_3147183JGZ_no_title.jpg
  17. In my scenario, they would be singing and playing, just with a backing vocal track. They do that now. Does it bother you that Geddy flies in harmonies cause Alex can't sing? I don't mind how rush shows are now, if that's what you're asking me. I'd prefer no fake shit at all but I think rush shows kick ass. I just don't want geddy lip-synching the old shit, if you wanna play it just sing it differently. I'd much prefer that. I'd rather watch/listen to the Rush guys air-drumming/guitar-ing to a recording of their older material than to see them play their crappy new stuff live. Sorry you feel that way. I love the new stuff.
  18. For the sake of the older among us and also the uniformed... What is twerking exactly? :codger: You don't need to know. Consider yourself lucky for not knowing.
