  1. I'm willing to bet Neil never even watches it. There's at least a decent chance he'll never know or care this video even exists.
  2. This is what's showing on iTunes too, which generally has their shit together. If this is true, I might be able to say without hesitation that it's the laziest CD cover I've ever seen in my life. Maybe not the worst, per se, but in terms of effort made, possibly the laziest. Found this on Rush Backstage.com Yeah, I saw that too. My only worry is that's clearly just a squished version of the DVD image, it isn't cropped or altered like it should be. The disco ball is an egg, haha. So the only two examples we currently have are both incredibly half assed.
  3. You guys...It's dangerously close to release, and I think this might actually be the real cover for the CD, border and all. 4. Just out of sheer curiosity, I'd be interested to know how we know he was sick on that specific performance from almost 40 years ago, haha. That's definitely a fun fact.
  5. I have heard the comments that people said they didn't like disc three because of him being sick. It sounds good to me. Hmm, weird. I never heard that about that performance specifically, and I've listened to that album literally dozens of times and thought it was incredible. never noticed anything off. Not like Time Machine, where he was sick and sounded like crap.
  6. I...don't understand. Are you saying it sounds different compared to disc one and two? Or different compared to other shows of that era? Disc three is a bonus disc with a concert from a good 10-15 years prior to the shows on discs one and two, so of course he'll sound different.
  7. I was always under the impression we'd get another album or two, Alex has said as much. It's touring that's in question. And given the choice, I'd take a new album any day of the week.
  8. Bought! Thanks for posting, it's not often you see Rush posters that lean more towards the tasteful art side than tacky rock side :)
  9. Came into this thread late, and thankfully missed all the drama. I'm sure this has been said before, but no, VT production wasn't actually great, it was as weak as we all thought. It's fine if you listened to it enough to become used to it, and learned to identify VT with that sound, but it was still a mess of a mix. The boys have said that themselves, that due to obvious circumstances revolving around the record, they didn't give it as much attention in post as they should have. Thus, the Remix. You can learn to like it, but it's still shit. And now we have a much, much better version!
  10. Haha, I can't imagine they read these forums and take out opinions so heavily into account. If anything Geddy is continuously the sole member who says he'd like to keep going.
  11. I guess I just don't understand the point you're trying to make. I don't think his singing has turned terrible at all, I think it's literally the natural progression that aging would take on the kind of singing he does. Same with Brian Johnson and AC/DC. Dude doesn't sound anyyyyything like he used to, but he's still a boss. Mick Jagger too, he can be hard to understand, but like Geddy, he's an admirably old man that's still putting on a show. Neil Young still sounds really good, but his singing style has never really stressed out his voice in any way, so he can comfortably rest there. And that's totally fine too. But that doesn't mean he's any better, it means he has a style that has its benefits. You make it sound like Geddy should be compared to Bob Dylan or Ozzy Osbourne, who at this point in their musical careers barely register as coherent human beings. Geddy doesn't sound as good as he did in the 80's, 90's or even 2000's, it's true. You mention the S&A tour, but even that was pushing 10 years ago now. That's a long f***ing time. But he still sounds good to me, he just sounds different, because lo and behold, turning 60 means you can't wail like you used to. Listen to the Led Zeppelin 2007 reunion concert, and you'll see the exact same thing. Plant just can't do it like he once did, sing in such a high register. But he still sounds pretty f***ing good considering it's a bunch of old-ass men up there on stage.
  12. The R30 rendition of almost every song played there is the best version. I'll still argue that Red Barchetta on R30 is still their best single recorded live song ever. It's perfect. That album is an incredible mix of an incredible performance. That said, this is easily the best version of SoR since then, and an all-around excellent live rendition. Geddy is singing incredibly, there are even flashes where, I shit you not, he sounds just like he did in the early 2000's. The drums are mixed well, hi-hat is fully audible, and the end solo is killah. Like most Rush fans, I know this song (and all the live recordings of it) incredibly well, so it's good to have it available as an anchor to gauge the overall quality. With that in mind, I am very, VERY excited to have this album in my hands and to play it non stop :) Wow. After reading this I was pretty excited and decided to check out the video. Once Geddy started singing it was over for me; I just can't listen to that nasally, low-timbered whine he has used for the last few tours. Guess we all hear things differently. I think we hear things the same, one of us just has unrealistic expectations ;)
  13. I guarantee you if that had been a tribute band, the comments would have gone something like this: "musically they're pretty good, but the singer sucks". Wrong. If that had been a tribute band, my comment would have been "why the hell am I watching a tribute band, they're the ventriloquists of the music industry"
  14. I'm surprised to hear people complain about the singing! Take another listen to Time Machine Tour, and thank your lucky stars this sounds as good as it does.
  15. You sir, are entitled to your opinion. But you crazy :P

  17. For what it's worth, you can definitely hear when Neil dropped a stick at around 2:22. So it's not completely glossed over ;)
  18. 100% Geddy sounded AWFUL in that version. He sounded poor on most of that album on account of being sick, but songs like CttH really made that show.
  19. I honestly know very little about why the bass sounds the way it does, I just thought it sounded a bit off compared to other stuff I've heard. But if that's how it's supposed to sound, then no worries! I just don't want this live release to sound like shit, we've had too many of those recently.
  20. This will always be one of the songs that serves Geddy's current voice least well. Until he just starts singing in a lower register, this one is not gonna sound great. The bass in this one sounds...weird? It sounds super fuzzy, it's kind of odd (specifically at 2:10). And there's a weird warping effect at the bottom of the video. I wonder if the encode is off. All that said, this looks like a song that Alex truly enjoys playing. And I like that. Edit: Hmm, the whole mix of this one sounds worse than what we've heard. The bass is almost too much in the front, and it sounds distorted, and the drums are hard to hear at points. I wonder what's up, as I've loved both other tracks.
  21. I choose to believe he's playing it differently just to play it differently. Especially after hearing that some people heard the harmonics at other points in the tour. Aging makes me sad, and the idea that my body is no longer able to do something that my brain knows it should be able to do makes me sick to my stomach.
  22. They all look similarly intense and focused when a particularly taxing musical moment comes up for them. The only difference is, those moments are a bit more common for Neil.
  23. GREAT performance. This release is confirmed to be the best sounding live release since R30
  24. I know Rush has had a variety of design aesthetics over the years, but it's at least slightly weird that both of these designs are for the same band http://www.rushbackstage.com/images/products/RU/R4/RUR4BLU40T000_000.jpg?preset=details http://www.rushbackstage.com/images/products/RU/30/RU30DVDREG000_000.jpg?preset=details The more I think about CA Live starting the trend of the band being on the cover, the less I like it. It feels super tacky, like a Hard Rock Casino band
  25. Haha yeah, it's clearly just the same image squished, but I'm certain they'll just chop off some of the top and bottom.
