  1. QUOTE (OGr8imL84AD8inF8sBlackSedan @ Jul 5 2012, 04:56 AM) Alanis Morrisette Cranberries chick Morrissey Robert Smith from The Cure Hogarth Scott Stapp The Dude from Cinderella All suck. I think the cranberries singer hurts my ears the most besides steve Perry solo stuff after journey. Oh sherri was punishment to me. I have the same complaint as a lot of people have about geddy, that he shreiks. I sure would be a lousy producer / talent scout because steve perry is worth a shitload of coin.
  2. QUOTE (thelocator @ Aug 24 2010, 04:45 PM) I'm currently checking out a bunch of Doom Metal bands...and I totally understand why the majority of them are not signed to anything more than scrub labels... The singer is the most crucial ingredient in any formula...and its the singer who's got to be 'born' with an entire 'checklist' of variables already completely intact...A guitarist can always just get hisself a better guitar, or add an effects pedal to make him sound different...The singer has got to be naturally blessed with a 'distinctive' and powerful voice...or, no will notice him....or his band... I've noticed that I've been far more open and accepting of a whole range of vocal styles after this past decade...A bunch of different directions emerged over that period, and I checked out a bunch of them, friends...Years ago, I would quickly shun an artist if he or shed had a voice that was reminiscent of a style from a few years prior...Close-minded stuff...But, nowadays, I'm more apt to embrace than shun these suckas. One thing I absolutely hate though is the mock-Layne Staley/Eddie Vedder imitations...That low, throaty rumble got so dam played out at the end of the 90's, and first few years of this past decade that I will forever hate that style...It's so queerish and corny. I'm totally impressed with your post. Even musicians, many of them go a lifetime never realizing how important a great and original sounding singer is.
  3. QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Jul 1 2012, 12:37 PM) Hell Or Hallelujah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHRNKqJqhx8...player_embedded I heard this on the radio today and was somewhat excited until i realized it's just a copy of samny Hagar's i cant drive 55 only with a crappy chorus. Plus, there's tambourine shaking loudly in the mix. If this means paul stanley is going to be smacking his 63- year old rebuilt hip on their next tour, count ne out, guys. It really doesn't even sound like kiss. If it didn't sound like hagar I'd probably like it, but cmon now...
  4. Holy shit, xanadood!! Poor guy was up there trying to make a living, and his kids'college fund suffers because some douchebag couldnt behave??? WTF did the Singer do wrong???

It's a 2 way street. can we see a video of you rapping, please, pretty please. I cant rap. I wish I could. That's why I said it actually does take skill to take a crap load of lyrics and make it flow well with a beat, while not sounding like an idiot. It's easy to listen to someone like Eminem and think its not hard to do and takes no ability, until you sit down and try to do it yourself and end up sounding like a clown. Tell me then it doesn't take skill. We agree on something? Wow.. It's really hard to do. I love rap. I have since I was around 20 in the mid-90s. Im not talking about brainless gangbanger rap, although some of that I like. Not much of the modern gang stuff though. I would always rap in the car while listening to it just because it's fun. Some of them are very smart writing really clever lyrics about world issues with complex rhyming schemes, just like a poet would. It's definitely not easy to do. Putting all those lyrics together is hard enough, and then to make all of that flow well over a beat just takes a certain ability. If you dont have it and try to do it you'll end up sounding really ridiculous. Ed from Live tried to do it and it was horrendous. And we know Geddy tried and that was a joke too. Listen to this crap. I dont think this is as corny as Roll The Bones which is literally the worst rapping Ive ever heard, but this is still terrible because he has no idea how to sound cool doing it. It sounds so forced. Who Fing cares if rap takes talent. Balancing ten grapes on your nose also takes talent and I don't see appreciation threads for that. We can still hate things that take talent to do. Lots of people hate prog, but concede that it takes a monstrous amount of talent to play it. And for the record, Geddy's rap is hilarious, and exactly what they meant it to be - a parody of rap. Were just having a discussion...chill out? Anyways, yes I find that most mainstream rap is complete and utter shit while underground has some truly talented rappers. I love the rap on Roll The Bones, the lyrics are pretty clever and are more complex than 99.9% of radio rap. I just felt the need to post a reality check after Trenken posted his high-and-mighty rap-defending rant. You mean the same way you deride rap whenever it's mentioned anywhere on the forum? Rap blows. I cannot believe It's considered "music" to this day. To me, rap signifies the end is coming soon...

  7. QUOTE (treeduck @ Jun 9 2012, 05:08 AM) No sign of my copy in the mail... So I'll take out my angst on the artwork! Dude, the artwork kicks major ass! Behave...
  8. QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Jun 11 2012, 12:03 PM) I was offered to go watch The Wall Live in a few weeks. For anyone who has gone to see Roger Waters perform it, is it good? What can I expect? I shoulda gone and seen it at pine knob. I haven't seen Roger live but I've got a dvd of him live from about 2004 and the performance was unbelievably tight. His band is world class all the way, and they capture the pink floyd sound better than post-1980 pink floyd. Based on that dvd alone I think you're in for a treat. If I were a doctor or a lawyer I maybe could afford to go to all the concerts I wanted to go to this summer.
  9. QUOTE (metaldad @ Jun 20 2012, 07:07 PM) QUOTE (J2112YYZ @ Jun 20 2012, 06:39 PM) They've shit so bad on their legacy since Q2K that I can't even begin to care about this. I thought they fu*ked up after Promised Land . I really think this is giving them a kick in the pants . Screw Tate I have to agree with that. Promised Land was the last good album imho. My dusty old cd collection supports what I'm saying too...
  10. Tate always struck me as an egotistical prick. Kind of a pompous-ass of sorts. I could see shit-canning a guy with Lead Singer Syndrome like this, and with glee. Good going, guys! maybe I'll go see you now!
  11. Kiss was the first band i loved. Those songs had feeling, and as a young lad i was quite a naughty thrill at the time. Just watched some of those songs from '75-76' in Detroit the other day and was loving it. Detroit Rock City is a damn original rockin' tune. Doesn't matter where you come from, but makes it extra special living 15 miles from where they recorded kiss alive. Thanks for posting thus, goob! Ready to get a tennis racket out like i did in 3rd grade jammin to fresh kiss. Sigh...
  12. I didn't vote. It's too premature to tell, and how could you really judge it that way? Isn't that like apples and oranges? IDK, I just don't see why you're making a competition between 3 albums spanning 3 decades....
  13. QUOTE (LeaveMyThingAlone @ Jun 25 2012, 09:51 AM) Good Lord people....I can promise you that the original poster is sitting back and watching his creation with a big grin on his face. 8-9 pages of posts and responses to a thread he started clearly to get everyone worked up. We're not just feeding the troll, we are giving way too many servings I hate to add more to it, but I just wiSH people would stop doing these sarcastic posts. Those posts are just not funny, even when Tick does it... STOP IT! (TYPO)
  14. QUOTE (ALifeson85 @ Jun 25 2012, 11:11 AM) All that needs to be sayed about the new album, and Rush, is perfectly summarized in this "very brief" review. 150% TRUE. I thank you kindly.
  15. QUOTE (Tick @ Jun 24 2012, 10:08 AM) A Dramatic Turn Of Events is one of the best albums DT has ever made in my opinion. Don't bow down to Metaldad, he doesn't know everything. Its great!!! and I would be thrilled if Portnoy came back, but I'll just roll with Mangini if he stays. I will remain a big fan and move forward, looking forward to another stellar album. So tell us about these bromantic feelings you have for Jamesy, Tick! I think Metaldad's onto something!
  16. I finally picked up my copy and listened a couple times and I think it's great. Mixing and mastering sounds good, Alex has some cool new riffs, it's very organic-sounding. I don't know quite what that means, but this one and the last album both are very blues-based, which is cool. Neil plays too many straight sixteenth notes on this album, but hey... 1) Neil is still Alive 2)Geddy is Still Alive 3)Alex is still alive 4) they still tour 5)they still write new music, and they still do what they want when they want. I have a great deal of respect for Rush. Most megarockstars burn out very quickly and Rush didn't at all. I for one am very happy with this new album. That's it! -TMD
  17. QUOTE (jesse2112 @ Jun 24 2012, 09:46 AM) Just saw them in Detroit Friday night 2nd row directly in front of Petrucci! He shook my hand after the show! It was awesome. Cool! J.P. is a fan pleaser, that's for sure...

Sorry your hearing is going old man but that album is just rehashed riffs from the first 2 albums MM is a great drummer but i don't think he fits the band . You just love the album because your Butt Buddy JLB is on it Stop staring at his pic and Listen with your Ears Easy, guys! I'm either old or dt's lights are too bright on this tour. I'm not going to see dt again until they come out with another album that tickles my funnybone...
  19. My ancestors are from germany, and was it neccessary to talk like that towards the irish?
  20. QUOTE (Motorshooter @ Jun 24 2012, 03:17 PM) I really wish there was a "Crap Post" filter on this forum.
  21. QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Jun 24 2012, 11:22 AM) Unfortunately, with five pages we probably made his day. He probably woke up and said, "I think I need some attention." I used to get this stuff all the time when I taught junior high... My gf is a teacher, and i think you're right. Absolutely right. Now he's hiding as an anonymous user. I can't believe i returned to the scene of the crime.
  22. Whether the thread starter was being sarcastic (not amusing, dude) or really had all those negative things to say just to get a rise out of fans who like the new record, the thread us worthless and i want that ten minutes if my life back i spent on this waste of server space.
