So you actually like S&A? You meet all kinds... Indeed. In fact, I like it more than anything they've done after Moving Pictures, in spite of Neil Peart's emerging journal-entry-as-song-lyric style of wiriting. A Larger Bowl is one of their best songs, I think, aside from Richard Dawkins-channeled refrain ("the world's so badly arranged" -- yeah, our world really sucks compared to other worlds). Several other strong tracks incl three really excellent instrumentals. I think VT and S&A were the first albums since Moving Pictures that a non-Rush-specific music fan can easily appreciate. Just my opinion, obviously. Well, RTB obviously reached many more people, and ditto for Signals. And seeing as you picked the first two albums by Rush to NOT go Gold, I somehow doubt that your opinion is close to being accurate. are you trying rushgoober, jr.? You need a new shtick, dawg. Copying RG's act is lame. Well, when we talk about whether or not non-Rush fans can appreciate it, I think we get into the area where we can quantify things a bit. Non-Rush fans obviously like RTB more than CP, Presto and HYF as RTB sold more than the band was selling earlier or later. The same argument holds for VT and S&A. Obviously there are other factors, but this is a more objective discussion than just, "VP sucks", "No, CP sucks!" Your devotion to hating CP is lame. Don't be a goober jr. TRF needs less dicks. :) I thought Goobs liked Counterparts, somewhat? My point being, Ledrush likes to put down CP as much as goober loves putting down VT. LR should be embarrased he copies goobers shtick, but he's not, and that's okay if you obviously don't care about being perceived as a lame goober copycat. It shouldn't be hard to come up with an original shtick for TRF, but some folks have no creativity. haha, I don't think he's necessarily trying to be like Goobs! I mean, people can have their reasons for disliking an album and what not. Goobs, clearly, HATES Vapor Trails but that's just a way for him to express his dislike. Not a big deal. And Led probably doesn't like Counterparts just the same. Though, I agree with both of their opinions...It's still just an opinion and isn't going to change mine. In my opinion, it's a "their loss" kind of deal. But I am one of those rare breeds who love all their work. So, I'm probably not making too much sense...Eh.

We should definitely go next year. Because I figure I need to go at least once. And you should too. Peer pressure. It'd be cool to go in a non-touring year. My Rush money is going to the tour this year :) Let's all do it. It will be a blast. :)

CP has Neil's worst lyrics, and they could even be worse than Alex's and Geddy's. it has a great sound, but very few good songs. Talk about style without substance. Animate, Nobody's Hero, Stick it Out, Between Sun & Moon, Double Agent? And you think Test for Echo with lyrics like the titled track, Virtuality, Carve Away the Stone, Dog Years, and Totem are better?

I like songs equally from both albums. I'd probably lean towards more for Vapor Trails because Test for Echo lyrics, on most songs, are just so....not like Neil. And personally, I think Counterparts and Hold Your Fire are awesome. Counterparts is def in my top 5. Hold Your Fire is pretty low but it shows how much I love their stuff....lol

Roll The Bones. If you own any best of album that contains Dreamline, you own the album. ;) Well, ok, not really, but that's the only song off of RTB I listen to these days. That song is better than all of Counterparts. :crazy:

What I think makes COS their least desirable album from 1974-1987 is The Necromancer and ITIGB. Love Fountain, jolts and all. It's basically 3/5ths of a great album. Remove the narration in The Necromancer and it would have almost been a great consistent album. I agree about the narration. It took me a really, really long time to not get bothered by it. The narration in Double Agent took me a bit to get used to as well, but DA narration bothers me less. Not sure what makes the Necromancer one more annoying? I find the narration in Necromancer EXTREMELY cheesy. I still don't fully enjoy it but, at least, Double Agent adds to the story and music and somewhat fits. Narration in Necromancer almost feels forced, in a way. Yeah, the narration on Double Agent doesn't bother me. It does on The Necromancer however, AND on Cygnus-X1. I agree - I think because the "DA" narration simply is Geddy narrating, unlike the contrived character voices on "TN" and "Cygnus". Then again, what about the "narration" on "Headlong Flight"? I think it's different with Headlong Flight because there's rockin' instrument playing going on in the background. Whilst Cygnus is just pure synth sounds and Necromancer is a guitar plucking a few strings. It's funny - I don't really care much for the narration on 'Headlong Flight'! I've kind of surprised myself with this - I shouldn't really care too much. But each time I hear the song, it gets brought down a bit for me at the narration part. I think it's specifically the, "Hey, man, I would NEVER trade tomorrow.." Egh. It's such a silly little point to dwell negatively on, but I can't help it! Also like the narration in 'Double Agent'. Don't know if Geddy's voice is quite processed, but it sounds really good. I feel like I could listen to an audio book with him speaking in this voice! Yeah, what I find kind of out of place in the Headlong Flight narrative is the "Hey man." Just sounds weird. His voice is processed but yes that would be cool if he narrated a 007 book or movie lol

I think it's a ridiculous point of view to say it's anything BUT an embarrassment, but as you said, we'll agree to disagree. ;) I do sincerely believe that by the way. One popular (and true) story is when I had my radio show for 5 years at a local community radio station. The computer contained a library of albums and songs that would play at random when live shows weren't happening, which was fairly regularly. I noticed at one point that someone had uploaded every single studio Rush album, and I took it upon myself to erase VT from the hard drive. I genuinely felt like I was doing some kind of community service by doing so, and here's why: 1. People didn't have to listen to something really bad. 2. I didn't have to feel shame by VT being played as representing my favorite band as it was a true (and yes, embarrassing) anomaly in their discography that should never be played, but forgotten about and hope it's never brought up again. 3. I was afraid people would hear it and make the logical assumption based on hearing that album that Rush sucks, and then they would never go and check out the band like they would be infinitely more likely to do if they heard a proper Rush album - I didn't want people to miss out on amazing band by being prejudiced against them forever. Detractors to what I did have stated that what I did was unfair and that I robbed people of being able to hear the album and decide for themselves. All I can say is, when you have access to the database of a local radio station, feel free to put the album in regular rotation. I did what I thought was right, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I will, actually, up and out say that Goobs is correct on showing this album to the public. There is absolutely no way this is a commercial album. Even if you're remotely a normal Rush fan, there's a fair chance you've never even heard of the album. The only song that is close to being commercially acceptable on the album is Earthshine, which is why it's more famous among most of hard rock bands. I'm not saying everyone's opinions or true/false because an opinion is an opinion. If you hate or love an album, it should really be nobody else's business but yours. Music is an art form everyone in the world takes in differently and it should stay that way. I don't understand the hate towards Goober all the time. He makes very valid points for his opposing team. The points he makes don't necessarily bother me, though, because it is his opinion. People make him out to be some sort of Rush hating monster for just stating an opinion when peoples' heads are in the clouds and think it's blasphemy is you criticize one thing about the group. And he happens to probably be one of the more intelligent fans on this forum I know. So he, at least, knows what he is talking about instead of just saying "This song is good/bad." and that's it.

Lots of thanks to you too, it's great to be able to share Rush's music on this forum because few people know this unique band in France... Yeah I feel France wouldn't take to RUSH too kindly for some reason. Glad you're one of the smart ones in the bunch. ;)

I think Test for Echo is the only one they didn't make vinyl for. My buddy, actually, has a copy of Clockwork Angels on vinyl still in its' package. I hope that becomes worth a bit in the future.

Very awesome! The lower octave singing + "oh"s with the synth solos were top notch. Great guitar playing as well!
