    Rush Rock Band

Haven't heard the sectors or "Rock Band" version of Signals yet, so can't say. However, if anyone sees any Rush put out for "Rocksmith" let me know.
  2. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Apr 20 2012, 11:18 AM) QUOTE (metaldad @ Apr 20 2012, 12:03 PM) Does anyone like a good Peanut Butter sandwich once and awhile ? Headlong Flight is Heavy! it sticks to the roof of your mouth like.....hey, wait a minute! Lets not forget the Peanut Butter Bacon connection! Elvis ate pig bacon on his PB&J. Rush sang about Bacon
  3. QUOTE (metaldad @ Apr 20 2012, 11:03 AM) Does anyone like a good Peanut Butter sandwich once and awhile ? Uh, peanut butter? That was Elvis. Whom even I can't make a connection to Rush to (that is, beyond the obvious starting of R&R and influencing Rush's influences)
  4. QUOTE (ghostworks @ Apr 20 2012, 10:50 AM) QUOTE (Animate @ Apr 20 2012, 10:44 AM) Considering that Cliff Burnstein, the co-founder of Q-Prime Management and Metallica's manager, is the same Cliff Burnstein that initially signed Rush at Mercury records and mentioned in such classic Rush record liner notes as Moving Pictures, it actually is appropriate to talk Metallica in a Rush thread. ^ DUDE!!! RIGHT!!? nothing says, 'dudes, lets bring up Metallica!' than a thread titled: "OH MY GOD!, LISTEN TO HEADLONG FLIGHT NOW!!!!" Point taken! I will desist from being the very Headlong Flight buzz kill that pissed me off earlier in this thread Back to our regular program

  6. QUOTE (metaldad @ Apr 20 2012, 08:25 AM) QUOTE (danielmclark @ Apr 19 2012, 09:32 PM) QUOTE (Animate @ Apr 19 2012, 06:22 PM) Led Zeppelin is the correct reference point for all things related to heavy music: hard rock, metal or otherwise. Led Zeppelin is not metal, heavy or otherwise. You know what drives me insane ? When people call Zep Metal . Look up Black Sabbath and Deep Purple , that is Metal. Zep was a Blues Rock band . You people are killing me I am copying this yet again because I want to make it clear that I do not think Zeppelin is metal. Led Zeppelin is not metal by any stretch of the imagination, too much blues and acoustics and not enough speed or aggression. But they are a great reference point to compare other forms of hard music (e.g. guitar/bass/drum riff-driven hard rock and heavy metal) because they excelled at it. Plus their influence on Rush is undeniable.
  7. QUOTE (metaldad @ Apr 20 2012, 08:27 AM) QUOTE (Animate @ Apr 20 2012, 12:06 AM) Frankly, Metal Evolution aside, I don't consider Rush to be Metal either. But the love that series gave Rush was heart warming enough for me to wish I did. Go to any book store that has a music section. If they have a book on the history of H.M., you will find Rush in it Certainly, Rush has greatly influenced the Metal community. Rush's influence on Metal artists will undoubtedly be their most significant musical legacy, and is obvious in many cases. However, only a few elements of a few Rush songs could realistically be categorized as metal, in and of themselves, and most of their work is not metal in any form.

Led Zeppelin is not metal, heavy or otherwise. I think they were involved in the origin of metal. They are on the path of its origin for sure. Cmon. They had moments that might be some form of light metal, but they were few and far between. They get lumped in with the metal crowd because of their image and the timing of it all. Seriously, look at the track list of Zeppelin IV, there's nothing metal there. Black Dog, maybe. Maybe. Hard rock, not metal. The first two albums were more blues rock than anything else, Zeppelin III was a solid hard rock album... too much of their catalog is non-metal for the band as a whole to be called metal, IMO. Have a listen to South Bound Saurez and Hot Dog Honestly... Immigrant Song is an outlier, not representative of most of their sound. Heck, Immigrant Song wasn't even representative of the album it was on. immigrant song is one of the worst zepp tunes. i absolutely hate listening to that song. I agree somewhat, but it's a song that a lot of people point to when they say Zeppelin was a metal band. It's odd that a "Headlong Flight" thread has become an "is-it-metal-or-not-and-was-Led-Zeppelin-metal-too?" thread, but good points all around. Was LZ metal? Nah. Did they inspire Metal? You bet. So Did Rush. So will Rush when some kid hears "Headlong Flight" and cranks it up a notch. Don't want to be left out of a quote tunnel where I am in the center looking like an idiot! Led Zeppelin is not metal by any stretch of the imagination, too much blues and acoustics and not enough speed or aggression. 9. All this talk of RS "feeling bad and wanting to be buddies with Rush and their followers, now that Rush is sooo big!", Erm, no. Don't think that is how it works.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have quoted the post I was responding to, which was contrasting Rush to Metallica. I was trying to imply that Led Zeppelin would be a better band to compare Rush to then Metallica. Led Zeppelin is not metal by any stretch of the imagination, too much blues and acoustics and not enough speed or aggression. I plant the carrots with conviction While my thoughts turn towards the stew The soil in my hands makes we wonder What is this all about to brew? [chorus] I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep I can't stop planting deep In a field where I till far down I can't stop planting deep! That chorus! I can see it now: Rush gets a "Warning: Explicit Lyrics!" label on their new album.
  12. QUOTE (Deckiller @ Apr 19 2012, 07:08 PM) All great songs, for sure! Just to clarify a few things: I truly believe that we must live together or we will die alone. But we all need an identity as well. That's what makes us human. That is a beautiful sentiment. It does take courage to come on here and give strong opinions on a subject that people feel very passionate about.
  13. Led Zeppelin is the correct reference point for all things related to heavy music: hard rock, metal or otherwise.
  14. Wow! Impressive. Here are the songs jockeying for a shot at #1: (in alphabetical order) 2112 Cygnus X-1 Book II Different Strings Freewill Ghost of a Chance La Villa Strangiato Limelight Lock and Key Marathon Mystic Rhythms Natural Science Subdivisions The Spirit of Radio Tom Sawyer Working Man Xanadu YYZ
  15. Also, for comparison would someone put up waveforms of Peaceable Kingdom and In the End?
  16. I am not familiar with waveforms. Is is being used as a measure of song quality, or production quality, or format quality? What exactly is it measuring- just the amplitude of each note? How do you interpret one of these reading in order to decide that a song is of the a quality you are looking for? Do you want a song with a distinct range between the highest and lowest peaks, regardless of volume?
  17. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Apr 19 2012, 12:02 PM) QUOTE (Animate @ Apr 19 2012, 11:45 AM) You are ok with the quality of Geddy's voice, but simply don't find HF to be melodic enough for your personal tastes. Fair enough. This is an entirely subjective opinion. You might be confusing me with Trenken. I'm fine with Geddy's voice AND fine with the vocal melody. He contends that the song is bad because the vocal melody is so poor. I contend that the song is ROCKING, and I willingly overlook any weakness in the vocal melody department because Rush is usually weak in that department anyway. Oops, I actually was confusing you with that other poster. Your take on HF
  18. I appreciate the enthusiasm behind this thread! Very refreshing to hear someone else around here is jacked up about HF! HF rocks, pure and simple! Not quite 2112 of course, but i don't think Presto really meant that either.
  19. QUOTE (druid13 @ Apr 19 2012, 11:34 AM) I have to say even as a Mars Volta fan ...I found only one of those links provided to have anything all that great going on....I think it was link 4. EDIT ( 5 ) Dislexicon (noctourniquet) The first one sounded like a damn showering gel commercial....very derivative.... none of those links posted as alternative to HF do anything for me. **YAWN**
  20. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Apr 19 2012, 11:17 AM) QUOTE (Animate @ Apr 19 2012, 10:59 AM) It is no big secret that Geddy's vocal quality has probably been the biggest factor in Rush's not being more generally appreciated, and has almost certainly limited the numerical sales success and radio airplay of most of their songs. More so then song length, lyrical content, or musical style. However, after 20 albums (counting CA and Feedback), this surely can't be an issue or surprise with Rush fans? Is it not somehow generally understood that a lot of the times Geddy's vocal quality is not immediately palatable? Geddy is not Dickerson or Plant (or Adele-blech blech). His voice is a detraction to many. When I hear HF, I hear vocals that are strong for Geddy- loud and powerful. You're talking here about his pitch and his tone. Those are the things about his VOICE which have been criticized and have probably kept the band marginalized. We were speaking about vocal melodies, which are not the same thing. You are ok with the quality of Geddy's voice, but simply don't find HF to be melodic enough for your personal tastes. Fair enough. This is an entirely subjective opinion.
  21. QUOTE (Workaholic Man @ Apr 19 2012, 10:44 AM) QUOTE (Animate @ Apr 19 2012, 10:22 AM) Given the alternative, I would do it all again, especially if it it could be done with the "knowing then what I know now part"! Hey! No cheating!! Logically, if you go back to do it over again but don't know that you have already done it all, from your perspective it is the same as having done it the first time through. So saying you would not like to do it all over again is the same as saying you wish you had not done it at all. We may all be on an endless replay loop and just not know it.
