    RUSH Cornhole

QUOTE (tripdad @ May 14 2012, 06:24 PM) Some very funny posts! I had no idea this thread would spin off in this direction. Honestly though I never knew the term cornhole had that meaning. Which is good I didnt know that! Ha Anyway, the game is also on the Nintendo Wii...it's called Pro Bags on that system. I don't know the origin of the game, but I always figured it was called cornhole because the bags are filled with corn versus beans or plastic pellets and you throw the bag into a hole! I found another picture of a RUSH cornhole set...Vapor Trails theme. This dude hand painted his. http://www.cornholegameplayers.com/forum/v....php?f=14&t=312 Maybe I should bring my set to RushCon...we can have a mini tournament! *pro-bags* **snrk** This thread is too funny! The VT cornhole planks are very nice, but your CA ones are quite superior!
  2. I don't know how to upload pictures on here. But Ebay has some older p/g LP's for sale that show what the original LP cover looks like. You can clearly see it is really not very remarkable, very muted: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RUSH-GRACE-UNDER-P...8#ht_500wt_1057 Problem is that this link will be bunk once the auction is over.
  3. I voted for kimono because "telling everyone I need to go on an errand...alone.... and driving somewhere until the album ends, turning around and drive back while listening a second time" seemed a bit dull.

Well, we are not lacking in rednecks here in Texas, but I never heard of anything like this. We prefer livestock to wooden planks. HOWEVER, If I were driving down the road and saw those for sell in someones front yard, regardless of what they are supposed to be used for, I would most certainly slam on my brakes, back up, and buy me a set!
  5. QUOTE (CrossedSignals @ May 14 2012, 11:52 AM) QUOTE (Animate @ May 14 2012, 08:23 AM) P/G? Seriously? With those weird teeth and 80's hairdresser colors? It looks like Symes spilled some pink and turquois water color on some spackle and then doodled randomly around the edge. Sorry you disagree. The teeth just creep me out. They look like human teeth as viewed from the front, but are sort of on an edge of the "plaster wall" that looks like an equine skull in profile. **shivers** If this were a dust sleeve instead of album cover poll, I would have chosen differently because the whole egg in a vice grip thingy is cool

PerW? All the love for this cover here reminds me of the episode of "That Metal Show" where Don and Rick (not sure if that is the co-hosts names) expressed their love for the PerW cover. It was not based on artistic merit.
  7. QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 12 2012, 08:10 AM) QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ May 12 2012, 04:46 AM) During the 90's, I stopped following Rush. I've tried to go back and listen to TFE and CP, but they just don't speak to me like the albums before and after that period. That's cool, it's all good. Rush was doing their thing and still bringing new fans into the fold. They deserve all the fans and success they've earned. And the fans that bought and supported those albums deserve a nod during the live shows. See, that's how I believe you express an opinion on a fan site. -- I didn't get in to TFE. It was me, my taste in music, it wasn't about RUSH lacking something. This is an argument I've heard once or twice before here, and I seriously don't get it. It's something lacking in US, and OUR FAULT if Rush puts out a crappy album and we can't appreciate it? Ok, obviously the assessment that an album is crappy is completely subjective, but still. My opinions might not mean anything to anyone else, but they mean a lot to me. If the music isn't good or anywhere near as good as I know they're capable of, I'm not about to blame myself. That's like saying the Star Wars prequels are as good as the originals and it's my fault if I can't see that fact. No, I blame George Lucas. That is an interesting argument about the Star Wars prequels. I believe the difference is in the intent of the artists. Lucus failed because he undoubtedly wanted to make three more films in pretty much the same gripping story telling vein as the first three films (only with a lot more technology). Lucus's goal was the same as if Rush was always trying to put out albums with the same sonic and lyrical sensibility as 2112. In contrast, each Rush album sets out to explore very different sonic and lyrical fields. I interpret most peoples negative assessments of any one Rush album is because that individual simply has a very narrow definition of what a Rush album should sound like.

That is effing awesome! Those are very pretty, but what exactly is a cornhole used for? http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cornhole I am a little afraid to click on those links.
  10. AFTK. I love the first 5 minutes of Xanadu, with the thrusting build ups in the opening instrumentals, it is a crunchingly beautiful song with a fantastic storyline. I really like the space epic story of Cygnus I and find myself at random times breaking out into "On my ship, the 'Rocinante' Wheeling through the galaxies, Headed for the heart of Cygnus Headlong into mystery" AFTK, CM, and Madrigal are entirely palatable and don't really affect anything either way. I love Geddy's voice in all three, strong and not strained. There are a few places in Circumstances where he sounds stretched painfully thin. Although I love his vocals in The Trees. Having one radio friendly cut in Closer to the Heart is not exactly a bad thing either. Of course, Book II and La Villa are amazing and there is no good justification for not having them in first place instead. Really a very tough call.

    911?

It is quite a stretch to think that it would reference anything but 21:12 BTW: What is the dinky third hand pointing to?
  13. QUOTE (CrossedSignals @ May 10 2012, 10:56 AM) QUOTE (1 of the 7 @ May 9 2012, 11:46 PM)QUOTE (Phantom @ May 9 2012, 05:37 PM) Any comments, one way or the other, have never taken away from how I feel about the band, and how I feel when I listen to their music...I just embrace the fact that for me, I've never been moved by any other band in a way that I've been moved by Rush. Nothing anyone says or does will change that feeling for me. Thanks for the reminder of what's truly important. Personally, I often fall into the trap of seeking out what seem like like-minded individuals on the Internet, so I at least have someone to talk with about the things that interest me, which NEVER interest people in real life who I have to deal with. The trouble is, instead of the enthusiasm I think I'm going to find, I often find the opposite, and not only the "YOU like THAT album?!?" attitude. It goes further to the fierce competitiveness among fans - the "you've SERIOUSLY only been to two shows? "You can't know what the h*** you're talking about because you've only been a fan for two years - trust me, you'll think Geddy's voice sucks in a few more, and if you don't, it shows there's something seriously wrong with you!" "There are too many fans of this band now - it was so much better when it was our little secret." All true things that have been said to me - the first to my face at a meetup! It makes it very, very hard to be a new fan of something or someone when you focus on what the fan base thinks of you (which, as a newer fan, is NOT pretty). Sure, there are a few "Better late than never!"s, "I'm glad you became a fan"s, or "Aren't they great?"s, but by and large, the attitude is "Why did YOU have to become a fan?" - and it's worse with Rush than almost any other interest I've had except maybe Star Trek/Star Wars - man, those people make Rush fans look sweet. If I didn't stop and ask myself "Isn't the only thing that matters how they make you feel?" and focus on the answer, I'd find being a fan too discouraging. It's mind-boggling to have to fight over something and defend myself from attacks over an interest we're supposed to SHARE, and that comes so naturally and positively to me. If it were anyone other than Rush, I'd probably move on (and have from other things in the past). But they're worth it. Thanks for reminding me of what my priorities should be. This is sad to hear. I've only met a few other people in person who are even casually into Rush, and they've been very chill. But if I met a hardcore fan who was an asshole just because I've only been a fan for a relatively short amount of time.... I don't know what I'd do. I'd feel sad and disappointed for sure. FYI: The correct term for people that bust on new fans isn't "Asshole". Technically, it is "Douchebag" or "Prick"
  14. It would have been hard to be a new Rush fan and to visit a forum like this. My 18 year-old self was far to insecure and self doubting for my musical opinions to not have been completely crushed by someone telling me my opinion on an album made me an ignorant idiot, or something to that effect. Should I have been less insecure? Well, yeah. Instead, here I have great sense of security built around knowing my opinions are truly my own, and entirely valid, because the foundation was not influenced to any great extent by the opinions of others. In the world before the internet, on my own, sifting through boxes of used cassettes or LPs, I also "discovered" and glommed onto many great artists like Jeff Beck. All this in an environment where the other girls were listening to such average non special bleh stuff as Logins and Messina (sorry if you love them, but they are very meh). So I know my gut instinct for music is good. Rush is the only group I "glommed" on to that is not universally acclaimed by the larger music world. I don't mind saying the world is wrong about Rush, they are one of the real greats, right up there with Zep, Floyd, Cream etc It is also helpful to recognize that around here, everyones opinions are wrong to someone else. No one is "king of the hill" or the ultimate authority because the opinions vary so much.
  15. QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ May 9 2012, 07:55 PM) QUOTE (rushgoober @ May 9 2012, 08:14 AM)If you really want to talk about an overused word in Rush lyrics, be prepared, because it's used A LOT! Rock and roll-in's a scream, makin' millions my dream A wondrous dream came into being Fantastic dreams come true The dreams's gone stale, but still, let hope prevail We would sit and talk of dreams all night Dreams of youth And a dream must give it flame V. Oracle: The Dream Dream can't you show me the light? The dream is still in my head Not fade like all my dreams Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams Come explore your dreams' creation No matter what your dreams might be Try as they might They cannot steal your dreams VI. The Sphere: A Kind of Dream Things that I once dreamed of have become reality. II. To sleep, perchance to dream... The shifting shafts of shining Weave the fabric of their dreams... To keep it as new has been his dearest dream. Race back to the farm, to dream with my uncle at the fireside. The universal dream Will drag the dream into existence. Nowhere is the dreamer Or the misfit so alone The restless dreams of youth Some will sell their dreams for small desires And start to dream of somewhere To relax their restless flight Dances on the edge of his dream But most of us just dream about The things we'd like to be Mingles with the bright stuff of dreams I'm not giving up On implausible dreams- From dreams to a bowl of dust Big money make a million dreams We break the surface tension With our wild kinetic dreams While their invaders dream of lands they've left behind Dreams flow across the heartland Dreams transport desires Dreams transport the ones Who need to get out of town They dream in Middletown... More things than are dreamed about Dance and dream like lovers Now I lay me down in Dreamland Hold the flame 'til the dream ignites- A spirit with a vision is a dream with a mission I walk through their beautiful buildings And I wish I had their dreams But dreams don't need to have motion In the dreams of a desert thirst dreams are sometimes catching Dreamers learn to steer by the stars Dreamers turn to look at the cars dreams for self-delusion I had a dream of a winter garden I had a dream of the open water chase the dreams of merchandise Dreamline Wondering what our dreams might be worth To leave you stranded in Dreamland If the dream is won - Though everything is lost Just another dreamer who was going too far Evil as a murderer's dream In the city where nobody smiles And nobody dreams Live and love and dream Dream of a Peaceable Kingdom Dream of a time without war You could look with pride On your world of dreams Form a dream to rise to Earthshine Did I have a dream? Or did the dream have me? Dream - Temporary madness Dream - A voice in the wilderness Dream - Unconscious revelations Another world of dreams appears Dream - A walk in the wilderness Dream - Unconscious recreation It's a dream for the waking To the distant dream of the city Heh. See, I always noticed the word "heart" used a lot Anthem of the heart and anthem of the mind Begging hands and bleeding hearts Weakening the body and saddening the heart Gives my heart no peace My heart will lie beside you Feel, my heart is pounding See how it sings like a sad heart Let your heart be the anchor Withered hearts and cruel, tormented eyes Can't we find the minds to lead us closer to the heart Closer to the heart Eyes wide open heart undefended Headed for the heart of Cygnus Sound and fury drowns my heart In the heart's eternal light And the hearts of men despaired IV. Armageddon: The Battle of Heart and Mind The universe divided as the heart and mind collided For their hearts were so unclear To the heart of Cygnus' fearsome force With the heart and mind united in a single perfect sphere All this machinery making modern music can still be open-hearted Or playing from the heart? It's hard for one to know Different hearts beat on different strings Caught in the camera eye. I have no heart to lie A vague sensation quickens in his young and restless heart A wound that will not heal- A heart that cannot feel A world of indifference heads and hearts too full It's the color of your heartbeat The heartbreak climb uphill Dreams flow across the heartland Right to the heart of the matter In the secret wells of emotion buried deep in our hearts Primitive things stir the hearts of everyone Tough times demand tough talk demand tough hearts demand tough songs Too-tender hearts upon our sleeves Between these two directions my heart is sometimes torn The heart of a lonely hunter guards a dangerous frontier Read the words that touch my heart Like the heart of the earth would burst Staring down into a heartless sea Here I hide in the heart of the city When my heart still changes overnight Take heart from earth and weather Take heart from the harvest I hear in the rate of her heart Holding my hand to my heart Holding my fist to my racing heart On a desert highway straight to the heart of the sun Memory a flickering light left behind in the heartland My counterpart - my foolish heart I felt a shadow cross my heart At the speed of love my heart goes out to you She said sure, my heart is boundless The flame at the heart of a pawnbroker's diamond Send your heartbeat round the world A gentle hand, a secret touch on the heart And the secret places of the heart Memory humming at the heart of a factory town Memory strumming at the heart of a moving picture Memory drumming at the heart of an English winter Memories beating at the heart of an African village I think your list is longer though Hearts and dreams are what Rush is really all about! Even if a lot of the dreams are about technology, or sociology, or science fiction. Sorry if that was overbearingly cheesy, but it is sort of really true
  16. QUOTE (Del_Duio @ May 9 2012, 07:24 AM) QUOTE (Animate @ May 8 2012, 07:17 AM) I think the word "tears" is overused in Rush lyrics. Geddy and Neil are both guilty of this. I noticed awhile ago a lot of Rush songs had "like a (fill in the blank)" repeating theme. Like an English rain Like a force of nature Like a rare and precious metal Like a righteous inspiration Like a teardrop in the ocean Like a streak of lightning Like a brilliant shooting star Like a stranger coming out of the rain Like a million little doorways Like a million little crossroads Like a torn up photograph Like a shipwrecked mariner adrift on an unknown sea Like a pair of vagabonds who wave between two passing trains Like a ghost rider Like a cornered beast Like a stone in the river Like a forest bows to winter Like a flower in the desert Like a steely blade in a silken sheath Like a pillar of cloud, the smoke lingers It's almost.. Like a spiral sea UNENDIIIINGGG!!! Good catch! I can see Neil making a potential list of candidates now.. Like a Rolling Stone. (rock you) Like a Hurricane Like a Virgin (touched for the very first time) Like a Candle in the Wind and thinking "Damit, all the good ones are taken already!, Oh well, guess I will just have to go with "Like a teardrop in the ocean".
  17. I thought that a recent post on here from some guy 20 + years younger than me got into Rush because of T4E is so mind-blowingly cool. The fact that that an album like CA might attract an even newer/younger fan base is one of the many friking cool things about Rush. Even if I am happy listening to Xanadu 5,000,000 times. If there is such thing as a "real Rush fan", it is the person still pumped up with excitement at hearing the music and lyrics like they are new.

Difference between Dream and Tears is that Dreams is an awesome word, where as the thought of any of the boys actually crying, or their girlfriends crying, or even the Necromancers crying tears of steel (or whatever, can't be bothered to look it up) is kind of annoying.
  19. I bought the record as a college freshman in 1983 and was soooo into it- listened to it ad nauseum. Still have my original LP and after at least 25 moves in 4 states, it is still in great shape .
