  1. I think they're great instrumentals. Certainly better than any of the S&A ones.

I loved Subdivisions as an opening tune. ...Territories & Where's My Thing How is Where's My Thing a surprise? x2 Why are people saying this when they played it on the last couple of tours? That was "Leave That Thing Alone", not "Where's My Thing?".
  3. QUOTE (jnoble @ Sep 8 2012, 03:35 PM) QUOTE (devoidzer0 @ Sep 8 2012, 03:17 PM) Realism for the win. I'd rather hear songs in a comfortable vocal range for him than all the straining and lack of enunciation he struggled with on the '70s stuff on the Time Machine tour. It just so happens that I find the '80s gems they are pulling out to be brilliantly creative and impassioned songs that have been severely neglected live for years. It's a breath of fresh air. For those of you who hate the synth era, sorry for your loss. I'm stoked that they finally resurrected Where's My Thing? I loved that song back when I was first getting into Rush circa 1992 and with the current heavier live sound it should sound awesome. I never understood the dislike for this gem that a lot on TRF have for it and why the band dropped it after only one tour. Such an underrated little gem with a TON of jam potential.
  4. QUOTE (Kenny Olav @ Sep 8 2012, 03:21 PM) I never got to see Rush in the 80's (I was a child and didn't even know they existed) so for me, the first set was a treat. I would have preferred to hear some late 70's classics at the end, in place of Working Man or say, Manhattan Project, but I really liked Neil's mini drum solo as an intro to Red Sector A. I also always love it when they play Bravado. Overall, they sounded great. Geddy's voice sounded better than at any other show I've been to (my first show was in 2002). Regardless of the weird set list... it was another fantastic concert by the one and only RUSH! I swear one of those cellists/violinists is going to catch on fire by the time this tour ends!
  5. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Sep 8 2012, 02:45 PM) QUOTE (Alchemical @ Sep 8 2012, 02:37 PM) QUOTE (ShowgunSam @ Sep 8 2012, 02:26 PM) As ballsy as this set list was, what makes you all think they won't make a few swaps over the course of the year? It's gonna be a long tour, after all. Someone supposedly legit stated in another thread that there are other songs in the rotation and there might even be a second setlist with a few alterations. 2112 Limelight Middletown Dreams The Pass Dreamline Seven Cities of Gold Those were the songs I believe. The credits in the tour book seem to be a tip-off regarding what songs are played. Almost everything they played is listed there, and a few songs they DIDN'T play, which I'm guessing may appear on alternate night. Among those songs, the following were listed: 2112 The Pass Dreamline Seven Cities of Gold I'm guessing on some nights these songs will be swapped for some of the ones played in Manchester. For example: 7CoG instead of Halo Effect, 2112 Overture/Syrinx instead of Working Man, etc. Oh wow! Guess that confirms it then.
  6. Alex solo + Halo Effect! Not gonna lie, Halo Effect sounds amazing live...I may bump it up a few spots on my song ranking for CA.

  8. QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Sep 8 2012, 01:16 PM) i'll enjoy it just fine but Alex promised us Jacob's Ladder! Bastard. Alex is a pathological liar. We should all know this by now.
  9. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Sep 8 2012, 01:38 PM) QUOTE (Alchemical @ Sep 8 2012, 10:14 AM) CARNIES!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfHdKkrcUEM&feature=plcp carnies sounded good but like somebody else mentioned, it's looks a little odd with the strings people moving around to the music. Took some adjusting, but I don't mind. Also, whoever said there was a smoking hot violinist was right!!
  10. QUOTE (treeduck @ Sep 8 2012, 01:22 PM) QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Sep 8 2012, 01:15 PM) I know there is a contingent of fans who diss the 80s material, but it's still valid material. I mean, how many more times do I have to hear "Closer to the heart" and "Limelight"? The 70s era music is indeed good, but it's been so overplayed. You can't tell one tour from the other...until last night. The rest of A Farewell to Kings isn't overplayed though is it?? Where's Cinderella Man with it's low pitched vocals that Geddy could still sing easily? I don't many people think Xanadu is overplayed. What about the title track? I think they could do that too. Geddy would really strain himself to sing some of the notes in Xanadu and AFTK. :/ I would have loved to see Xanadu (And Jacob's Ladder of course) with strings! Maybe next tour...
  11. Watching some videos from last night I'm honestly shocked at how good he sounds. Especially in Territories (He sounds nearly identical to his mid-eighties voice!) and Headlong Flight.
  12. For a while I thought R40 was a definite possibility but now I'm not so sure. The boys are touring worldwide next year and celebrating R40 just another year after that seems like a lot for them to have on their plate. What's more likely is for 2014 to be a "rest year" and in early 2015 they'll drop another album and then focus on touring and celebrating 2112's 40th anniversary instead. Whatever the case, the next tour will have a LOT of 70s and 90s material!

  14. QUOTE (GotPeart @ Sep 8 2012, 09:51 AM) Followed the set list last night - and was blown away! I got introduced to Rush in the '80's and as someone posted last night - this show was made for us "40-somethings". Would have liked to have more from 70's, but lots of songs I haven't seen live - so I'm good. I actually like how they rremoved many of their staples and focused on more "Deep tracks". Makes me think there is an R40 coming and it will be a collection from all over! CAN'T WAIT til Charlotte! See ya there!!
  15. QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Sep 8 2012, 09:42 AM) QUOTE (Alchemical @ Sep 8 2012, 10:35 AM) QUOTE (av450 @ Sep 8 2012, 09:33 AM) If they add in Middletown dreams then it should replace something bad like red sector a No way will that happen, it'll likely replace one of the four other PoW songs. Can you imagine a set with five songs from PoW? Yep. I saw the Power Windows tour where 7 of the 8 songs were performed. Emotion Detector was the only song not played. That was the PoW tour so it makes sense!

  17. QUOTE (CygnusGal @ Sep 8 2012, 09:32 AM) Last night, there were more ladies than I usually see at Rush shows. We were especially well represented! Woohoo! Huzzah! I'm bound to meet my future wife then!
  18. QUOTE (rocketom @ Sep 8 2012, 08:34 AM) Casual Newbies Do Not pay $100 to see a concert, unless theyre hoping to get laid. Who gets laid at a concert?
  19. Holy sh*t! Geddy sounds amazing! I love that he isn't singing songs that strain the HELL out of his voice.
  20. QUOTE (Chief2112 @ Sep 8 2012, 01:13 AM)Some may get 2112 after all. Here are the different songs that will be played in the B setlist. No clue which songs they will replace them with though. "The Pass," "Middletown Dreams," "Dreamline," "Seven Cities of Gold," and "2112" for the encore. The list has been seen by someone who I trust 100%. If I'm right just give me some props please. LOL I'm guessing Working Man and 2112 will switch up every few shows then, they're around the same length. The Pass could be a substitute for The Body Electric, and Middletown Dreams can easily be swapped with one of the other PoW songs. As for Dreamline, it can take Bravado's spot, and Seven Cities...it can take Wish Them Well's place. I think you might just be telling the truth!
  21. QUOTE (Chief2112 @ Sep 8 2012, 01:02 AM) Promise I'm not a troll. I had a login on here before but it's been awhile. I have it on very good authority that there is a B setlist. It's been seen. I personally haven't been told exactly what songs will be switched out but here are the songs that will be played on the B list that are different from tonight's list. "The Pass," "Middletown Dreams," "Dreamline," "Seven Cities of Gold," and "2112" for the encore. Seems pretty legit based on tonight's list. I know the person who saw the list and gave me this info and I 100% trust them. Guess we'll find out soon enough. Holy schmokes!! Now those songs I can welcome. Guess we'll find out if you're legit within a couple more shows then!
  22. QUOTE (bootlegguy @ Sep 8 2012, 01:05 AM) Power windows should be forgotten, not embraced.
  23. QUOTE (Deckiller @ Sep 8 2012, 12:55 AM) Band was great, crowd was absolutely pathetic for the most part. My section was an embarrassment. By far and away the worst rock audience I have ever witnessed. It's not even close. No offense to anyone up front, but I didn't see much emotion up there. I was worried. NOBODY in my section stood at any point (I mean, I can understand sitting most of the show...it is what it is...but not even standing for the encore ovation? Tom Sawyer?), everyone was moving to and from the concession stands (seriously, those should be CLOSED during concerts; lube up and eat before the show, please. I pay to see Rush, not peoples' rears etc.) I felt stuffed in my cubbyhole seat like I was on an airliner, and I got dirty looks any time I showed emotion. They were a bunch of mindless zombies wanting to be stuffed with Tom Sawyer and The Spirit of Radio, and I was praying Rush would axe them from the setlist. The setlist up to that point had been a nice F-U to casual fans and an ode to die-hards. The people behind me wouldn't stop moaning about wanting to hear hits, etc etc. They yelled the entire concert and diminished an otherwise outstanding setlist and light show. I teared up when I heard the strings kick in. I adore symphonic rock/metal, and I adore strings. It was a dream come true, except for the guys behind me who I wanted to punch. There were a ton of audio issues and Lifeson errors (the former was surprising but to be expected due to it being opening night...and the latter is just par for the course lately), but they were so trivial because the light show, set list, strings, etc. combined to make this arguably the best concert I've been to. Which section were you seated in? Ugh, I'm crossing my fingers that the crowd at the show I go to will be somewhat lively at least...don't want whiners seated behind me.
