  1. Hi moderator, Thanks for the information and the move. I'll admit that it's been quite awhile since I've posted here (certainly not since the site update), so please forgive my ignorance :) And, this being the 34th post, I'm one step closer, ha! Thanks again.
  2. By the way, here's the album artwork :) http://f0.bcbits.com/img/a4292534059_10.jpg
  3. Hey folks and fellow fans of Rush, My band AirBorn is gearing up to release our new single, "Mudpond" with it's b-side "Semi-Sweden." Our music is most certainly influenced by Rush, and you may remember our release in late 2012, an instrumental space concept album, The Day the Sun Revolved Around the Earth. You'll hear other influences as well - Camel, Dixie Dregs, Steely Dan, Opeth (think Heritage), Return to Forever, etc. I'd appreciate it if you'd give it a listen and check it all out. You can listen here: http://airborn.bandcamp.com/album/mudpond-semi-sweden. Thanks! PE
  4. My band AirBorn is releasing their sophomore album, "The Day the Sun Revolved Around the Earth," today. The album can be streamed and downloaded for only $9.00 on BandCamp (airborn.bandcamp.com). It's an instrumental space concept album; a journey through the time and space continuum. Some of our biggest influences are Rush, Camel, King Crimson, Dixie Dregs, Allan Holdsworth, and strangely enough, the Beach Boys! If you're interested in supporting a high school progressive trio, please check out the music, or like our Facebook page (facebook.com/AirBornProg). Thanks, and may the Rush be with you ;-)
  5. I would have to disagree, I attended the Charlotte, NC show, and "Where's My Thing/Drum solo" had me in awe the whole night! I thought it was perfect, at least at the show I attended.
  6. And if Pet Sounds is great (which it is of course)... Holy cow, listen to the SMiLE sessions!!!!!!!!! Regardless of those who pass the project off as a drug experiment, this is some of the most intuitive and genius material for its time and even currently today!
  7. The Beach Boys "Surf's Up" (Not the 1971 version with Karl Wilson singing, but the version on the Smile Sessions boxed set with Brian singing)
  8. I love T. Levin's slappin' of da bass on this one
  9. QUOTE (ArrowSnake @ Jun 14 2012, 02:24 PM) Love the early albums of the Pumpkins. Listen to them a lot. Is Jimmy Chamberlin drumming on this Oceania album? He's a great drummer. Mike Byrne drums on this album. But yeah, Chamberlin is really fantastic. His jazz fusion band (The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex) did a great album a couple years ago called "Life Begins Again". Kicks the 'Pumpkins out of the water!
  10. Thanks for this, I really appreciate you making a great solution instead of just complaining about a problem.
  11. Got my fan pack yesterday and listened to it on the best speaker system I could find. It had to be "The Garden" for me, Rush has never had a true closing song before. The song sums up the whole journey (as it was meant to) and concludes CA perfectly. Awesome.

  13. QUOTE (Mika @ May 12 2012, 03:41 AM) Good for you! An awesome song, and I never get tired of hearing it. Actually, come to think of it, I haven't listened to it for more than an entire year now... time to get it on the ol' ipod! I love the ending of the song ("We can walk our road together...") - this being one of the first Rush songs I ever heard, it struck me that Geddy had a nice voice. Oh, and the "I am dead, and yet unborn" part - good moodiness in this song. Man, to have caught a Rush show when this song was being played live.... This song was the reason I began playing bass! If they pulled it out and played it in its entirety (I know it's impossible) I wouldn't care if they played Tom Sawyer 10 times!
  14. QUOTE (GangsterOnBoats @ May 4 2012, 07:59 PM) Ooh, here's the single artwork for "The Garden", which is rumored to be the next released single! http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o492/dsiebold/TheGarden.png
  15. I could stand to NEVER EVER hear anything from Moving Pictures at a Rush concert EVER. Period.
  16. Allan Holdsworth (with Jimmy Johnson on bass and Chad W. on drums) : 01. Tokyo Dream 02. Rukukah 03. Out From Under 04. Atavacron 05. Water on the Brain Pt. II 06. Improv Solo 07. 0274 08. Peril Premonition 09. Where Is One? 10. Devil Take the Hindmost

  18. I think it's really fantastic compared to say, Snakes and Arrows (I do love that album, though), but I get what you're saying. If the song had more variation to it and less repeating sections I think it would be more listenable.
  19. QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Apr 21 2012, 07:32 PM) I always loved his stuff with Bruford. It's the perfect line up for me, I almost wish the band had lasted longer into the 80s. Allan Holdsworth is, in my opinion, the best guitarist in the world, same deal with Berlin, Bruford's drum sound is so unique (probably due to his use of roto-toms), and Dave Stewart adds great synths. Not so fond of Annette Peacock's vocals, though.
  20. QUOTE (ReRushed @ Apr 18 2012, 09:53 PM) Several distinctly different bands fall under the name of King Crimson. The three albums ColdFireYYZ mentioned are very good starting points and I would throw in The Power to Believe. Just picked up TPTB at a flea market the other day. After hearing The ConstrucKtion of Light from 2000, I was surprised how much more consise this album is. Seems they got rid of the nonsense noodling that I think pervaded TCoL
  21. If you want to go straight for the gold of King Crimson concerning progressive-ness, get Red immediately! IMO, this is right up there with In The Court, but almost impossible to compare the two considering the 5 year gap between the two albums. Definitely start with Fragile for Yes.
  22. Anybody have a clue about what's going on with one of the world's greatest bassists Jeff Berlin? According to this report ( http://www.prex.com/blog/bass-legend-jeff-...nishing-new-cd/ ) which has been featured on many websites, his new album "Low Standards" was to have been released in February. In case he forgot, it's nearing the end of April now. I can't imagine this is due to the record company - how would they promote a jazz fusion bassist in today's culture? Anyways, just thought I'd post away
  23. Being a prog fan, seeing that an album has more than like 4 tracks that are 20 minutes each deters me a little bit... Not one for speculation, but it would be cool if the tracks flowed together like a Dark Side of the Moon type of thing.
