  1. No sign of High Tide or Net girl, net boy whatever that song is. I can live with those quieter songs on the earlier albums as they kind of operate as a breather between the epics but from Grace Under Pressure onwards there were some cringy clunkers like Second Nature which sounds like something Captain and Tenille would write or Superconductor which sounds like Kenny Loggins wrote it. Then there's the Ying and Yang albums; Counterparts and Test For Echo, both of which I would rarely listen too. Things have got back on track with the last few albums, Clockwork Angels could have been fabulous with a few filler songs cut and the production which makes it wearing on the ears. Just my opinion.
  2. It was the first album I heard as well. I heard it through a 10,000w P.A. system at The Floral hall, Southport UK at one of the many rock nights with Phil Easton.
  3. Lucky to hear this as my introduction to Rush on Christmas Eve 1979.
  4. My shock moment was when they released Ghost of a Chance as a single. I remember thinking imagine if that was your introduction to Rush!
  5. Looks like we will just get the regurging of 2112 and Moving Pictures every anniversary like marriage. Be interesting to see if anything happens with Hemispheres next year.
  6. I remember being frustrated with the songs being sort of start - stop - start again, disjointed between verses, middle eights and choruses. I'd sort of get into a bit of a song but just as I was going this is good, it would stutter with a weird change. It didn't flow like earlier Rush.
  7. Counterparts - Bad attempt at Grunge Test for Echo - after above, total flip but too long and boring Hold Your Fire - Too plastic and AOR, couple of good songs but major disappointment after Power Windows.

    The Rocinante?

'The object, currently named “A/2017 U1” came from the direction of the constellation Lyra, NASA said, and is now heading at a clip of 27 miles per second toward the constellation Pegasus.' http://www.ntd.tv/20...stellar-object/
  9. Rolling Stone has on the track list, By-Tor and the Snowden ha ha. Is this a new Welsh version?
  10. I can live with it but that late 80's/ early 90's Rush production was too much like Kenny Loggins - Footloose.
  11. Counterparts - the grunge experiment Test for Echo - the anti grunge after previous album experiment Hold Your Fire - the live version of the songs are miles better, more guts.
  12. Production values aside, I reckon Moving Pictures and Signals.
  13. I used to love In The End, but it's dropped off my radar along with most of this album. In the End starts off great but by the end of the guitar solo it really plods along almost dirge like.
  14. Great album that fizzes out with Rivendell and the over long plodder, In the End. Could have coped with Rivendell if it was followed by something epic.
  15. Duke suffered similar production problems to Signals, a muddy synth mix. If you want to hear how good Phil Collins is/was as a drummer listen to Wind and the Wuthering, the last prog rock album by them although Duke does have a story.

    History of Prog

Very funny, interesting and Rush are in it. 25 minutes into video. Sound's a bit dodgy. https://www.youtube....h?v=mUU1QtQBVbo
  17. The Camera Eye is great. However, I think it is placed perfectly on the album. However, I have always thought that Vital Signs is kind of a gloomy song and a gloomy way to end this album. Perhaps Vital Signs should have been the second to last song and The Camera Eye the last song. However, the end of The Camera Eye with the chimes is perfect for the upcoming Witch Hunt intro with the orchestral bells. So, yes I guess Vital Signs is where it should be on the album. But it has never been a favorite Rush song for me. Almost sounds like filler. Agree, I've played a guitar solo over the end of Vital Signs as it always felt incomplete to me.
  18. Mediocre, that's a bit harsh. I'm not a major Jam fan by the way, are you a bass player? If I was thinking of 'mediocre' then I would be thinking Status Quo or AC/DC bass lines.
  19. When? Where? On the TV, an old concert. Both play Rickenbackers.
  20. Strange thing, watching a Jam concert, noticed similarities between Bruce Foxton and Geddy Lee's playing, Foxton saying his major influence was John Entwistle.
  21. Non existent in Australia although the Clockwork Angels DVD charted for a week, surprisingly. IMO opinion Rush made a huge mistake in not touring the UK from 83 to 88, the fan base dwindled. I'm on the video ASoH's and I remember people in the audience were a bit uncertain with the songs they were hearing at times, remember there was no internet to know the set list in advance.
  22. Metallica spawned a whole career out of that middle section. Remasters have annoyingly compressed that solo as originally it screeched across the speakers like some wild bird of prey.
