  2. QUOTE (micgtr71 @ Jul 27 2012, 05:27 AM) QUOTE (deathlikesilence @ Jul 25 2012, 03:43 PM) so much hate in this thread! you'd think chris squire was gene simmons I wouldn't call it hate. I count Chris Squire as one of my biggest musical influences, but the guy has done some things in the past that show what he is after. There is nothing wrong with that. None of his behavior changes my opinion of him...as for the Gene Simmons comment, he kind of is like him but on a lesser scale. Chris Squire action figures and an Fish Out Of Water lunch box would rule, though. Ah, Fish Out Of Water....I know what I am listening to today. I, like so many others, have put up with a lot of Drama from Yes over the years. I even reluctantly stuck with them on Fly From Here, because I think it's a really strong album. But to now dump Benoit and bring in ANOTHER tribute band singer? This was the perfect oppourtunity to make things right and reunite with Jon, and they blew it big time. I'm passing on this tour, and judging from the weak ticket sales at my venue it looks like a lot of other fans are done with them as well. I will support them if/when they do a reunion/farewell tour with Jon. Other than that, I don't see myself supporting them again live. Sad to say, because they were always my second-favorite live band, behind only Rush.
  3. QUOTE (greyfriar @ Jul 27 2012, 02:23 PM)QUOTE (GernTheFish @ Jul 27 2012, 08:10 PM) I'm a little curious how they will do the megaphone voice. Will Geddy sing this or will it be a triggered recorded voice? - Geddy sings live and the effect is controlled via foot pedal. - Geddy sings live and the effect is controlled from the soundboard. - Geddy doesn't sing at all and the effect is triggered from wherever. Or Geddy could actually sing live through a megaphone a la Scott Weiland. http://images1.mtv.com/shared/promoimages/bands/s/stone_temple_pilots/sxsw_2010/281x211.jpg
  4. Forgot to mention: hearing The Garden, The Wreckers, etc. live with the string section is going to be sublime. I'm sure that some will bitch, but WTF it's something new and exciting that Rush has never tried and I'm really looking forward to it.
  5. QUOTE (GernTheFish @ Jul 27 2012, 12:42 PM)Just wondering how folks think CA will translate to the live stage. Which ones will rock, which will not sound as good live, what songs are you wanting to hear the most on tour? I need to give it more thought, but right now I'm thinking about 7cog. It's not my favorite on CA, but I have a feeling it will melt my face off when they play it live. Any others? Seven Cities IS one of my favorites, and I think it will sound amazing live. I'm really looking forward to hearing the title track live. I think it will be FAR superior to the CD version, which probably has the weakest mix on the album.
  6. As of today: Headlong Flight The Garden Seven Cities of Gold Clockwork Angels The Anarchist Halo Effect The Wreckers Caravan Wish Them Well BU2B Carnies BU2B2 Lately I've been really digging HF and Seven Cities. CA has dropped a bit, because the mix is just not very good.
  7. QUOTE (WCFIELDS @ Jul 27 2012, 11:39 AM) QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 27 2012, 10:32 AM) QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 27 2012, 11:30 AM) if there is another album i'd like to see someone different in the mix. If it aint broke do mess with it There are some production issues with it....you, being in the Rush marketing/promotions dept. must be aware of that. C'mon now Well, you're one of the heads of Rush Complaints & Grievances, so maybe you can lay it all out for us?
  8. QUOTE (Powderfinger @ Jul 26 2012, 01:45 PM) I know we all loathe Rolling Stone, but the prog album poll results are in and Rush is included multiple times... RS Poll Those results weren't as bad as I expected. It would have been nice to see Relayer or Misplaced Childhood make the top 10 instead of DT, though.
  9. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 26 2012, 02:55 PM) QUOTE (LyndseyG @ Jul 26 2012, 01:10 PM) Rushgoober, once again let me just say how relieved and happy I am they you live this album so much! why is it so important for one to like it? i guess it'll make it a better listening experience for some knowing that others love it. Maybe folks know his history of hating VT so much. Why does it bother you and Tony R so much to see people sharing their enthusiasm for CA?
  10. QUOTE (Tony R @ Jul 26 2012, 09:08 AM)If they don't like the new album, THEY DON'T f***ing LIKE IT! What's the problem? Do you think they got up one June morning and decided they weren't going to like the new Rush album. Feel sorry for them? Get over yourselves. A couple of days ago I was asked why I even bothered going on a Rush forum when I hated the band so much. Suddenly because I like CA I'm no longer a "hater". Yet I still dislike the same number of Rush albums I did before CA was released!!! Some of you are stupid beyond belief. Don't worry, you're still a hater in my eyes.
  11. QUOTE (An Enemy Without @ Jul 26 2012, 02:34 PM) Seriously, I leave this forum for a day or two, and BAM! All of the hater haters have taken over! What is wrong with you people! Is it so wrong to dislike an album? I am positive that negativity can be a positive thing every once in a while! Positively! And then I see you people try and stamp it out! Really? REALLY?!? I think it's time for you to ask, what would Neil do? Simple as that. What would Neil do? Even you most fanboyish fanboys (for and nor but or yet so) can agree that Rush has at least one song that could possibly contain a single, barely discernible flaw that may or may not make the song just a tiny bit less enjoyable. Can you? Now expand that a bit and try and imagine how one might dislike an entire album. Can you? No? Okay. Never mind. But the thing that stands out the most is the sheer hypocrisy. You see people complaining, and what do you do? You complain! I'm sick of your complaining! I'm tired of your complaining! I'm sick and tired of your complaining! I'm actually sick! (Don't worry it's just a cold). Stop complaining! Thanks, Ben Dover I hope you're kidding , but it's hard to tell around here these days.
  12. Rushgoober, where does CA rank among the albums for you at this point? For me it's not quite in the top ten, as that would mean beating all the Terry Brown albums plus GUP and PoW. But it's VERY close for me, which is pretty remarkable.
  13. QUOTE (LyndseyG @ Jul 26 2012, 01:10 PM) Rushgoober, once again let me just say how relieved and happy I am they you live this album so much! Careful, Tony R will smack you down for congratulating a forum member like this.
  14. QUOTE (MarKo @ Jul 21 2012, 04:30 PM) QUOTE (GUP1771 @ Jul 20 2012, 10:53 PM)After playing the CD more frequently in the car, which I typically blast music while driving, it is a bit rough on the ears. The Taurus pedals aren't friendly to my speakers at all, and even messing with the EQ in the car, I still can't get a decent sound. (I've never been very good at that stuff.) Kind of annoying considering the singles of Caravan and BU2B didn't have this type of problem. I still think the music sounds amazing in other formats that I use, but in the car, it's pretty bad. I'm not expected headphone quality, but at least something that is listenable. So previous statements I've made that the mastering is okay, I was wrong. It's more so bad than okay. Everything besides VT and CA sounds great in my car. Yep.....agree.... Maybe car speakers are not what they used to be but in general this album really really blows the speakers out of shape.... That's where I listen to most of my music........ so it's frustrating. No matter what some people say, it's a fact, it needs sorting Yeah, I have the same problem. It sounds best for me on my $20 Sony sound-isolating earbuds, pretty good on my $99 Sennheiser headphones, and worst on my $800 car stereo. Go figure! The more I listen, the more I think the main problem is just over compression. To me, everything sounds squeezed together into a very narrow dynamic range and there's not enough volume separation between sections of songs: for example, the verses and choruses of Halo Effect, which should have more of a contrast. I also think certain songs are much worse than others, mix-wise. The title track has by far the worst mix, just muddy as hell, which sucks because it's probably my favorite tune. Headlong Flight, on the other hand, sounds fantastic. Very strange...
  15. QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ Jul 25 2012, 06:06 PM)To those of you who hate the way con-TRAR-y is pronounced, try singing the chorus pronouncing it CON-trary as normal. It just doesn't work. I still don't understand why people are getting their panties in a bunch over that. It's not like Ged hasn't pronounced words oddly before Not me, I wear boxers. Like I said, I don't hate it. But as good as the verses and bridge are, I think the chorus could have been even better if tweaked. It feels like they just squeezed in a couple too many syllables. I think it could have been improved even by just getting rid of the "that"s: All I know... is sometimes you have to be wary Of a miracle too good to be true All I know... is sometimes the truth is contrary Everything in life you thought you knew All I know... is sometimes you have to be wary 'Cause sometimes the target is you But you're right, we're still stuck with the con-TRAR-y.
  16. QUOTE (Pound of Obscure @ Jul 25 2012, 04:42 PM)QUOTE (metaldad @ Jul 24 2012, 04:03 PM) It will be played on the radio for about 2 weeks and then you will hear Limelight agian 2 weeks? Like HF, it won't ever be played at all where I live. I asked the program director for the station here, who lives down the street. HF has never been played. Since its way better than Wreckers, no chance. Apparently Headlong Flight is actually doing okay on the "Mainstream Rock Charts," whatever relevance that has anymore. http://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2012/07/24...lockwork-Angels "Headlong Flight was released online back on April 18th and made available for purchase on iTunes on April 24th. It has been in the top 10 on the Mainstream Rock Charts for several weeks and is currently sitting at #6." http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255612 Of course, none of this is as much fun as the false rumor that The Larger Bowl was going to be released to Country stations. Anyone remember that? Ay caramba!
  17. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Jul 24 2012, 10:34 PM)My 15 year old daughter even harmonizes with the chorus. To daddy's delight! You should record that and post it for ReflectedLight. Funny, after I was kind of slagging on the chorus yesterday, it got stuck in my head while I was hiking later for about 45 minutes. I really don't hate it, just don't like the way "con-TRAR-y" is phrased. But The Wreckers is still a great tune, and is absolutely redeemed by: 1. the verse, which was one of my "goosebumps" moments on first listen: "The breakers roar, on an unseen shore." Geddy's voice sounds great here, and I love the lyrics. 2. the bridge, still one of the highlights of the album. It's probably the most "cinematic" moment of the album, and really is going to be EPIC live with the string section.
  18. QUOTE (bluefox4000 @ Jul 25 2012, 08:25 AM)What i don't get is why people get up in arms when someone DARE Criticize CA....it's unbelievable. Just cause we don't share your rah-rah attitude. Granted the album's not horrible.....but it's far from a masterpiece. Now is that the definitive opinion...no. But it's an opinion, we all have one....get over it Mick Uh, we're expressing our opinion just like you are. We post to say, "I really like Clockwork Angels" and then you chime in with "CA is pretty mediocre." Then you post to say "CA is a sub-par effort" and we say "CA is their best since CP." Right? Or should negative opinions be allowed no comment or feedback?
  19. QUOTE (SchemingDemon @ Jul 24 2012, 07:40 PM) When did people start ripping on the wary/contrary rhyme? I certainly don't think it's cringeworthy at all I love The Wreckers, but do find the "con-trar-ee" thing a bit annoying. Not cringeworthy, just a little annoying.
  20. I voted Good/Good, but would have voted Great/Great if possible. At this stage in the game, where we barely have albums let alone concept albums, I give huge props to any band that tries to put out something that's more than just a collection of tracks for distribution on iTunes. The best thing about the CA concept, IMO, is how it helped unify the music over the entire album. I think it helped make CA very cohesive, and helped avoid the outlier/oddball tracks that sometimes don't seem to fit (Bravest Face, Good News First, Dog Years, etc.).
  21. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Jul 24 2012, 06:28 PM)i think the wreckers is partially neils fault for giving geddy long cheesy chorus lines. c'mon wary contrary? it's horrible dude. All I know is that sometimes you're going to be very dissapointed when the new Rush album is just not for you All I know is that sometimes you've got to ask Gary* why that Vapor Trails album sounds just like poo All I know is that sometimes it's going to be scary when the new Rush setlist is revealed and it doesn't appeal to you All I know is that sometimes that girl Katy Perry wears some super skimpy outfits that make me say "woo-hoo!" *Rushgoober Sorry for the shoehorning.
  22. I'll probably get burned at the stake , but I would have liked to see them go with Halo Effect. I can actually imagine it maybe getting some play on classic rock stations. Maybe? Nah, probably not.
  23. QUOTE (Tony R @ Jul 24 2012, 03:46 PM)QUOTE (losingit2k @ Jul 24 2012, 06:21 PM) QUOTE (Tony R @ Jul 24 2012, 08:38 AM) QUOTE (Gompers @ Jul 24 2012, 02:34 PM) QUOTE (Tony R @ Jul 24 2012, 09:21 AM) QUOTE (Gompers @ Jul 24 2012, 01:24 PM) I already submitted a review and a rating of 4 stars. Waiting to see Tick's review. Wait until you see mine.... http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=792040 Well, Well! QUOTE This could be the best Rush album since "Moving Pictures", it is certainly on a par with "Signals" I guess you're not the Anarchist I thought you were. Indeed. There's always a chance I'll like a new Rush album, you, however, will always be stupid. Why would anyone want to have anything to do with Prog Archives if this guy is an administrator/mod?
  24. QUOTE (Tony R @ Jul 24 2012, 12:59 PM)QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jul 24 2012, 06:04 PM) QUOTE (Tony R @ Jul 24 2012, 05:22 AM)Ok, I'll play: Caravan 2/10 BU2B 2/10 Clockwork Angels 4/10 The Anarchist 4/10 Carnies 5/10 Halo Effect 3/10 Seven Cities Of Gold 1/10 The Wreckers 4/10 Headlong Flight 4/10 BU2B2 1/10 Wish Them Well 1/10 The Garden 5/10 So better than anything they've released since Signals for me. Nice attention grab. I'm still waiting for Trenken and Gemini to weigh in with theirs: Caravan 0/10 BU2B 0/10 Clockwork Angels 0/10 The Anarchist 0/10 Carnies 0/10 Halo Effect 0/10 Seven Cities Of Gold 0/10 The Wreckers 0/10 Headlong Flight 0/10 BU2B2 0/10 Wish Them Well 0/10 The Garden 0/10 Why do you care how other people perceive or enjoy an album. The fact that you like it should be enough. Other posts that say "I'm glad you like "it"" are equally perplexing. eg: QUOTE Seriously, I'm glad you're liking it so much. trink39.gif CA really is amazingly consistent, as seen in your ratings. I hope Seven Cities grows on you. I know you like the debut, and for me Seven Cities really sounds like a modern take on What You're Doing or Working Man (Zeppelin-ish blues rock). It's become one of my top 2-3 tracks on the album. 1022.gif Why should you wish that a track grows on someone? You didnt write it and it shouldn't change your enjoyment whether they do or they don't. Obviously we're all interested in what other fans think about CA, or we wouldn't check out this forum. I'm still tying to figure out why YOU'RE here, though. If CA earns a 3/10 for you but is their best since Signals, obviously everything Rush has done for thirty years has been shit for you. So why are you still here with 4800+ posts after thirty years of dissapointment? After three freaking decades, I think I would move on. EDIT: Just saw your review on Prog Archives, and I'm completely confused. How do you give CA a five star rating given your ratings above?
