  1. QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 6 2011, 04:23 PM) Yeah 6g's is way too pricey for a Les Paul. You're paying a lot more than the actual instrument is worth because his name is attached to it, but Ill bet it takes them a long time to sell all those out at that incredibly inflated price for a guitar that you can get for significantly cheaper with all the same parts. Cant get over that price though. I paid about 3 grand for a custom built 6 string MTD bass, and I always felt I over paid for that, even though it was hand built by Mike Tobias and is the finest bass ive ever played, 3 grand is still a lot for a bass. Was this guitar hand built by Alex or Les Paul? Nope, which means it is definitely not worth it. I can understand what you are saying about how a custom with all the same parts would be cheaper, but I have not seen the guitar cost more than $3,999. Where did you see it for 6g's?
  2. QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 4 2011, 07:12 AM) QUOTE (Dobner has assumed control @ Jul 3 2011, 10:23 PM) Aging is inevitable my friends (or at least until some scientist makes some age-retarding cream ) that being said the fellas still put on great shows and they're pushing 60! I say keep rocking until you can't pick up your instruments Yeah ive said before that as bad as his voice is, how can you really care when you're actually there? I totally get thinking its awful when you watch live recordings at home, thats hard to listen to, but there who's really concerned about that? You're just happy to be out, seeing a band you love knowing it could be the last time you ever see them. Hell even if they just played all their songs for 3 hours without him singing and the crowd just sings the songs I would still be fine with that. Better than sitting home watching youtube vids. I couldn't agree with you more.
  3. QUOTE (01GT Eibach @ Jul 5 2011, 07:26 PM) Awesome guitars, but to me ... double locking = PITA for tuning and string changes Great if you have a guitar tech, but ... last I checked ... I do not. Yea very true
  4. QUOTE (hughes&kettner @ Jul 5 2011, 12:55 PM) dude- have you ever seen "reefer madness"?? Haha yes I have. Ooooh the poor misguided masses.
  5. QUOTE (kbomb106 @ Jul 4 2011, 12:45 AM) I'd say it's a fair bet that Alex smoked as recently as 2002. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUh5GYYy2Kw That was hilarious, I'm going to have to agree with you on this one. Alex is the man.
  6. QUOTE (ioc @ Jun 30 2011, 10:29 PM) I'm too musically schizophrenic to ever have a perfect album. The flow of every album has its own charm, which is another reason I love Rush albums. My mood can fluctuate between genres; so when I'm in the mood for Rush, it's nice that they've provided the artillery for whatever strikes my fancy. I do kind of miss the epics. Another album with one included would be nice. I agree there are some days where I just want to be taken on a journey (ex. the epics) and some days where I am just feeling the shorter songs. Rush has all which makes it nice.
  7. QUOTE (ioc @ Jul 4 2011, 11:20 PM) [/quote] Rush's original concept, but couldn't get Gorignak to sign off on it:
  8. QUOTE (GeddPratLerxst @ Jun 29 2011, 09:52 PM) the only foolish thing about you listening to CoS is the fact you think it's foolish HAHAHA I couldn't agree with you more. CoS is far from foolish, it's fantastic.
  9. QUOTE (Ghostnotes @ Jun 26 2011, 08:37 AM) My son had his first gig last night and is now severely hooked on the rush of a live performance. That's great you should be very proud. My first show was in 2002 for Vapor Trails (I was 12) it was amazing I'll never forget it.
  10. I would love to get my hands on one of these. Preferably the wine red one. (Too damn expensive though) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v318/1001001/Guitars/Gibson_LP_Lifeson-signed_Tops.jpg http://www.dv247.de/assets/products/84111_l.jpg MOD EDIT: Shrunk huge photo
  11. The only reason I wondered was because the creators of Futurama seem like they would be the type who would be into Rush, but who knows.
  12. Guys come on, Twilight Zone gives you a look at what kind of things the fellas were interested in. It may not have been as profound or epic musically as the other songs on the album, but it's merit lies in the fact it shows that they were going to write songs that they wanted to write about what they wanted to write about. This song is just one step in the giant leap that was this album. Even if you don't particularly enjoy the song you have to appreciate what the guys were trying to do with it. P.S. sorry I tend to ramble . . . a lot. Peace.
  13. QUOTE (ioc @ Jul 4 2011, 02:58 PM) How about the rock monster from Galaxy Quest. Nice I'm not familiar with galaxy quest. I'm assuming it's a pc game?
  14. QUOTE (Tommy Sawyer @ Jul 4 2011, 01:09 PM) I saw a rock cairn in Utah this year that looked like the T4E inukshuk. Fair enough, like I said I'm just interested in what other's think. Thanks for your input.
  15. QUOTE (bigmoney2112 @ Jul 4 2011, 12:48 PM) One thing I never understood about rush fans is that 90 percent of us say that we don't care that rush isn't in the hall of fame, but yet if they do get in everybody will talk about how great it is. Yeah I think you are correct with that statement. All I know is for me personally, I would kind of be disappointed if they were inducted. The people who run the RRHF have always shown contempt for Rush so if they all the sudden changed their attitudes and nominated Rush I would have to believe it's only because they finally see the dollar signs floating around Rush. It's all about money my friends, they only nominate artists who will rake in the big money they don't give two sh*ts about the music.
  16. QUOTE (trenken @ Jul 4 2011, 12:08 PM) They arent in because unlike Metallica, they were not pioneers of any style of music, they have always just reflected whats going on around them, and really were never all that popular. They were big for like 2 years from 80-82, after that people outside of their hardcore fans stopped caring about them. That was like 30 freaking years ago!!!! They are basically forgotten at this point. Madonna deserves to be in. She is a legitimate icon. Rush isnt on that level. They were a big band for just a couple years, and just happen to have a very dedicated following, but for the most part they are not icons of the music industry. Theyve had great careers and I think they deserve to be in, but its a borderline call. Putting out a lot of albums doesnt make you rock royalty. They just never reached that uber iconic status like U2, Metallica, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Run DMC, etc.... They're just too weird, so people look at it as nerd rock and they get swept aside. I seriously doubt Rush cares at all. Im sure they would like to get in, but I dont think they will feel their careers are incomplete if it never happens. I agree with most of what you said, except for a couple things. Yes it is true they were never an iconic group and that is because they were dismissed by the mainstream. Much of their music is better than what was on mainstream but because big industry execs didn't like them or couldn't "get" them, they tossed them aside. I disagree that they are forgotten, Rush is not forgotten, in fact more people and more people are starting to discover them and realize what great works of music they have produced. Had they never been pigeon-holed and had mainstream success, I would bet we wouldn't even be having this conversation because they would have been one of the most recognizable bands along with Zep and Floyd. And to add another note, the fellas don't care about the RRHF. I may not be correct in saying this but I don't think they want to be inducted, it's just not who they are. Rock on my friends
  17. I know this will be a short thread but I had to get your opinions on this. I think the "neuchacho" rock creature from Futurama could have been inspired by the rock formation on the Test for Echo album art. Neuchacho: http://pool.theinfosphere.org/images/thumb/3/39/Neutopia_clip.png/320px-Neutopia_clip.png Test for Echo art: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b8/Rush_Test_for_Echo.jpg That's not the best picture for the creature but if you watch the episode you can see what I'm seeing.
  18. Man this is another tough album to try an rank songs on. Xanadu is a fantastic epic that I could listen to all day. A Farewell to Kings I think is one of their most underrated heavy rock songs and has a message that is timeless. Cinderella man and Madrigal are both awesome, Closer to the Heart is a smooth, timeless classic. And then there is Cygnus X-1, a hard rocking, twisting and turning adventure that sends you out into our galaxy to be swallowed by a black hole. I mean, Rush is the only band who can put a story like that into a powerful rock song. Neil's impeccable precision combined with Alex's superb guitar work and Geddy's badass bass lines and powerful vocals just take this song into a whole other universe. Although I love this whole album, Cygnus X-1 always gets my blood pumping so I have to pick Cygnus.
  19. I chose 2112 because it is so raw and powerful, and the story is very captivating. I just get a rush (pun intended) every time I listen to it. That being said, the whole album is superb and to tell you the truth I don't think I could put the songs in any kind of order. I like this whole album way too much to try and rank the songs.

  22. QUOTE (troutman @ May 17 2005, 10:33 PM) I have to confess... I never really liked the studio version of Bastille Day or Lakeside Park. I first got into with ATWAS!!! I was spoiled with those versions and when I heard the studio version of both songs it just never clicked with me. I feel ya on that one. I got ATWAS when I was 5 as a birthday present and after hearing the live versions of those songs, the studio versions just don't justice to how well they play them live. I guess that's why I chose The Necromancer. Thinking back on it I listened to that album so damn much, I thank my dad for introducing me to the greatest band ever.
  23. Man if only they kept it on the album I love that song. It's one of Rush's best, early, "different" songs (hopefully you get what I'm saying). I like how Neil actually incorporated subject matter from the show into the lyrics.
  24. His new Gibson Les Paul Signature guitars are beautiful, I really, really, really want the wine red one but it's out of my price range. http://www.12fret.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/gibson_lp_lifeson-signed/Gibson_LP_Lifeson-signed_Tops.jpg http://images.gibson.com/Files/441f1f87-2651-4309-927f-61a29b82085d.jpg http://www.rushisaband.com/images/201102/1809.f.jpg
