  1. The intro reminds me a lot of Everyday Glory, though i can see Manhattan Project in the song as well.
  2. This song is gonna be epic live.
  3. i almost want to say that i love Force Ten from R30 and Mission from SnA live more than the studio recordings. oh screw it, they are better!

    Foo Fighter nods?

QUOTE (trenken @ Jun 15 2012, 07:31 PM) Who knows. It could be coincidence, or its very possible Nick pushed him to do it if he felt it was right in that spot. I dont have a problem with it. The album sounds like a FF album obviously since Nick produced it, so its not impossible there's some FF influences there since it seems the band did give Nick some creative input Why do people keep saying this? the last Foo Fighters album Nick produced was In Your Honor back in 2005... seven years ago. also, if you listen the other Foo Fighters album Nick produced, One By One (2002) , you'll hear that they sound quite different. yes its possible that Nick used some similar tactics between every band he's produced, but to single one band out of a couple dozens is ridiculous. Does Stone Sour sound like Foo Fighters? Does Deftones sound like Foo Fighters? What about Danzig?
  5. Not just headphones, but FLAT frequency response headphones. Most stereo systems and earbuds and yes even the cheap (less than $100) cans have a high frequency roll off and/or bass boost. The reasoning behind this is because most people cannot hear past 16khz (or lower) after they turn twenty, and casual music fans love bass. I listened on my AKG Q701's and i didn't think anything was muddy at all, it was crisp and clear. but through my shitty car stereo system, the "Big steel wheels" part of Headlong flight was very very bassy. -something that was not a problem on flat headphones. whats the frequency response of your headphones? i recommend this website: http://www.headphone.com/ also, just because you have high end speakers, doesn't mean the room you listen to it is equally as flat or treated. any room that has parallel walls that aren't treated are gonna have standing waves that cause frequency cancellation depending on where you are in the room. try standing in a corner when the previously mentioned part of Headlong Flight comes on and see how much bass there is then.
  6. You guys must not have the fanpack version because the booklet for that is glued in. The case itself is hard like a mini hardcover book. Foo Fighters did the same thing with their greatest hits album. Jewel cases, to me, are boring and extremely fragile. But I guess in the end I don't really care what the Cd case is like; I ripp the Cd in lossless format onto my computer and play the files on my systems.
  7. I love the Clockwork Angels packaging, to me it's a nice balance between a hard case and digipack. I absolutely hate jewel cases, i don't understand why some people love them? most of mine have been smashed or the little things that hold the disc in the center of the tray snap out and no longer hold the disc. The paper digipacks are great because there's no way an part of the packaging can break, and its recyclable! how would a paper packaging not be durable? if you keep it out of the rain or the sink, there should be no problem
  8. QUOTE (losingit2k @ Jun 13 2012, 10:33 AM) QUOTE (Mr. Henry Gale @ Jun 13 2012, 12:18 PM) QUOTE (Rushman14 @ Jun 13 2012, 09:17 AM) Well it's been a sad day for the music industry for the last 10 years, but Rush isnt sweating my nitpicks of the mix. in case I haven't made it clear I STILL LOVE THE ALBUM. This! Clockwork Angels is one of my favorite releases from this band. Enjoying the shit out of it. I hope so cause your critique was the only one that has made any sense out of the entire pack of! The bass does sound a bit heavy through a major sound system at times but it shouldn't be the focus when it's not really that distracting. If we're talking about the heavy bass during the "i stoke the fires of the big steel wheels" part of Headlong Flight, i do believe that is Taurus pedals we hear. if it is Taurus pedals, and even if it isn't i love that part!
  9. before the lyrics there's the passage that says "The heaven-reaching towers of the cathedral of the time keepers... The radiant glory of the Angels- land, sea, sky and light." The way i interpret the Clockwork Angels is that they are mechanical monuments that "spread their arms and sing" my guess at the chime of the clock towers in the middle of the Chronos Square. They're probably some kind of tribute to this Watchmaker guy. They probably serve a greater purpose in the context of the novel -which i can't wait for!
  10. QUOTE (Terrapin @ Jun 12 2012, 06:13 PM) In my DAW (Logic 9) CA is peaking all over the place, is it peaking at or above 0.0db ? I hate using logic for anything other than composing MIDI because of this reason. it needs to be really quiet or else theres digital peaking -it's bullshit. im dead sure they used analog equipment to mix and master this mofo and if they had brick walled this album everyone would be able to tell. Everyone who has complained about the loudness of this album, S&A, and the sector releases are usually just blowing smoke out of their asses. i have several modern albums that have been mastered at least 3db louder than any Rush album. i literally have to turn my speakers down when i go from La Villa Strangiato (sectors version) to say, a Gob album. It can always be worse, so trolls, kindly shut the hell up
  11. I've never seen a vinyl record at any best buy ever. your best bet is an independent record store or an HMV. if they don't have it, they may order it in for you but that may take a few weeks. if you want it within the next few days, try amazon.com... i should get mine on wednesday from amazon.
  12. Have you ever comped a dozen and a half playlists of 47 mic tracks into one continuous take? didn't think so.
  13. If i don't get my fanpack tomorrow (monday), i'll be very angry. If i don't get it Tuesday, i may go on a savage rampage.
  14. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Jun 10 2012, 11:52 AM)One thing people forget, is even if you're listening to a "lossless" file, you're generally still listening using an mp3 player, or your computer with crappy sounding computer speakers. Even if your computer is connected to good audiophile speakers, it's nowhere near the same as a CD on a good audiophile system. Every part of a system makes a difference - the amplifier, the preamplifier (or integrated amp), the CD player, the connecting cables, the speaker cables, the speakers, the subwoofer, etc. You have to spend at least SOME decent amount of money to really hear things in great quality. Of course this will sound like gobbledygook to many people, but then again, most people who love the convenience of mp3's listened to on their ipods or through computer speakers have NO idea what they're missing, and maybe that's a good thing. If they truly heard most recordings the way they were meant to be heard, they'd be horrified with the sound quality they usually put up with. I know i was horrified when i compared 256 kbps MP3 with Apple Lossless files!!! i've never gone back. Apple devices such as my iPhone will play lossless files, but you have to be careful because there's a setting that may be clicked when you sync your music that automatically down-converts all your music to smaller mp3s. don't get me wrong, mp3s are very confient for their size alone. i used to be able to fit upwards of 1200 songs on my 16 GB iphone... i have since bought or re-ripped most of those songs and now i can only fit 600 songs -only half of those being lossless files!!! as for my systems, i don't have anything substantially expensive.. my monsoon computer speakers and sub are less than ideal, my room is a big rectangle encompassed in concrete. I used to listen through my Mom's Bose car audio system, but now that i've moved, i bought my own car that has also has a less than idea system. however, that all doesn't matter because i've got these bad boys: https://www.topchoiceelectronics.com/upload...elefon-sort.jpg also, my schools KRK and MNK systems in the recording studio control room -where i plan to bring Clockwork Angels in to listen to for the first time!
  15. Nerd warning! The files that are burned onto CD are always 16-bit, 44,100 khz .Wav files. the size of these files are usually larger than 40MB per 3 minute song. their "kbps" speed is usually around 1400 kbps. Lossless and FLAC files are close to half the size of .Wav, however there is virtually no quality loss as these are usually still above 1200kbps. MP3's vary depending on what speed you decide to go with. there is 320kbps, 256 kbps, VBR (variable bit rate), 192kbps, 128kbps and i've seen as low as 56kbps. obviously the lower the bit rate is, the smaller the file. MP3's use codecs to compress the file to a much smaller size (around 8MB or lower) which unfortunately crush the peaks in the audio and actually cut higher frequencies out of the song! i asume the reason it cuts the high frequencies is because around they time we turn 20 years old, our ears can no longer hear above 16,000khz. im 19, and i can still hear 18,000khz. however, most people can't tell the difference between 320 mp3's and 1411 kbps FLAC or .Wav's on their computer or stock car audio systems. However, if you are in a treated balanced room with high end monitors, the difference is very clear. This is a spectrogram of a song in Apple Lossless format ripped from CD with itunes. http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/qq250/t...eLossless-1.jpg and this is the same song ripped as 128kbps MP3 with itunes. (this was the itunes store standard two years ago). http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/qq250/t...eenageMP3-1.jpg
  16. still no email notification for me... if my vinyl doesn't come on tuesday, it's gonna be really hard to not buy a third copy or download a crappy leak.
  17. QUOTE (RUSHHEAD666 @ Jun 6 2012, 01:56 AM) I bought that Fan Pack a few months ago and they said that we would get it three weeks before the official release date. i believe you are confused. the release date for the regular edition album in the UK isn't until early July, approximately three weeks after June 12th release. Those who are in the UK who want to get the album earlier, have to buy it from Classic rock. in other news, i have not received my shipping notification yet, but my Vinyl should be here next wed or thurs.
  18. Tom Sawyer, Red Brachetta, and Vital Signs were some of the first Rush songs i learned how to play on Bass... but that was almost two after i picked up the instrument. the first songs i learned were by Wolfmother (joker and the thief), Foo Fighters(Everlong) and Black Sabbath (Paranoid).
  19. QUOTE (metaldad @ Jun 2 2012, 11:50 AM) QUOTE (danielmclark @ Jun 2 2012, 01:48 PM) Where do you live that you don't get mail on Saturdays? Mars Canada. True story.
  20. QUOTE (rushringleader @ Jun 2 2012, 10:48 AM) QUOTE (2112rush @ Jun 2 2012, 01:44 PM) I've not been emailed yet Me either neither have I!
  21. im in the same boat, kind of. i haven't listened to Headlong flight besides for the 20 second video clip last month -that was enough for me, i might have shit my pants if i listened to any more of it. i haven't heard any of the 30 second walmart clips either. i have read the reviews and the track run-down by Alex, though in my experience reading those types of things don't really ruin the first listening experience for me.
