  1. QUOTE (Derxst @ Mar 21 2011, 09:33 AM) When they are not touring, you would have a better chance of meeting Geddy during a spring training Toronto Blue Jays game in Florida. I met Geddy at a Detroit Tigers/Blue Jays game in Lakeland some years ago. I think that was more awesome because it wasn't a staged event. But if one has the disposable income and that's what they want to do, then go for it. If I had an extra M&G ticket, I would take someone up on $3000! That's a good suggestion for baseball fans. I am not, so I would feel like a stalker if i did that! I'm glad you got the chance, though. That's awesome. Since I live way off the beaten track, I would be more likely to meet Neil on one of his motorcycle trips. He came near here on his Ghost Rider trip. But I'm actually more interested in meeting Geddy or Alex, since I respect Neil's desire to avoid being recognized.
  2. QUOTE (ghostworks @ Mar 21 2011, 07:18 AM) as many of us know, you don't have to attend a 'formal' M&G to meet the guys and/or get a photo with them Apparently you know something the rest of us don't know. Unless you're willing to share your secret, please don't brag about it. Unless you're in the music industry, it's impossible, in my opinion.
  3. QUOTE (rushforumnewuser @ Mar 12 2011, 10:59 AM) When are the Junos? Will they be broadcast? (CBC?) thanks. It will be on CTV on Sunday March 27th. Not sure of the time. Also heard they will be streaming the red carpet arrivals live online - that could be either at the Junos website or the CTV website.
  4. We'll be driving 300 miles from Canada to Portland on June 28th. Last year after the White River show we spent some time in Oregon, and I'm looking forward to going back. Center section, row L. Can hardly wait!
  5. Thanks, everyone. I have joined the "I'm a Rushaholic" page and will check out the others.
  6. Even though you're not a golf fan, you watch a golf tournament on TV because you hear that Rocco Mediate is going to wear a Rush cap. Then you become a golf fan.
  7. QUOTE (CMWriter @ Mar 4 2011, 05:28 PM) QUOTE (On TheRoad To Adventure @ Mar 4 2011, 11:18 AM) How do you add those dates at the bottom of your posts? You can just go to My Controls > Personal Profile (a dropdown menu will appear) > Edit Signature. (: And just type whatever you like right in that box! Hope that helps. And, of course, welcome to TRF! Thanks, and thanks for the welcome. This is a nice place.
  8. QUOTE (Rushchick10 @ Nov 23 2010, 11:32 AM) Welcome! Been a huge fan since 1993. The people here are Mostly harmless. Careful, though. If you are ever in the same room as Alex Lifeson and Janie, you may want to just put a back to a wall and watch the events unfold. If you get caught between the two, you will sure suffer some damage. If I end up in Europe when Rush is over there, I will be attending (that is, if I can get a ticket! I heard that they are nearly sold out!! ). Otherwise, I'll be jetting around North America when they are here, catching as many shows as I can. Is that you in the pic? You actually got to meet the guys? I'm SO jealous! I see you're going to the Portland show. Maybe I'll see you there. It will be my 3rd Rush show. Sad though, I'm in my 50's and could have seen them on almost every tour since Day 1. I just wasn't into Rush back then.
  9. I'm wondering why there is so little activity on the facebook sites such as "Women who love Rush," and "Are there any female Rush fans." There seems to be no activity on them and hardly any members. Is it because of security and privacy? I'm considering "unliking" them. The Geddicorns facebook page doesn't seem to have any activity either. And what about the Geddy Lee fanpage. Geddy doesn't post on his own page, does he? Thanks in advance for your responses.
  10. QUOTE (HowItIs @ Mar 4 2011, 01:42 AM) QUOTE (On TheRoad To Adventure @ Mar 3 2011, 09:44 PM) We had hoped to attend the Vancouver show, but the Rush Tour Management folks hadn't nailed down a date by the time the Portland tickets went on sale. My husband and I fell in love with Washington and Oregon last year when we vacationed there. The Rush concert at White River was one of the highlights of our trip, but our entire time in the U.S. was great, so we decided to go to the Portland show. Of course, they announced the Vancouver date the day after I bought the tickets. The shows are too close together to attend both. Thanks for the welcome note. I spend a lot of time at the rushisaband site too; I only recently discovered this board with the New World Women section. Yeah, they waffled with that date, didn't they? I was guessing at June 30 because of the dates around it. Thankfully, I was right. We have friends in Vancouver, too, meaning we have somewhere to stay. So it won out over the Portland show for that reason. We NWW are a nice bunch. We sometimes get a bit carried away, though. Our boys sometimes make us crazy with teh hawt I had hoped the Vancouver date would be after the Gorge. I find it strange that they are crossing the border, and then back again, especially on a long weekend for both countries. But I guess they have connections - border crossings are no hassle for them. How do you add those dates at the bottom of your posts?
  11. QUOTE (HowItIs @ Mar 3 2011, 10:14 PM) QUOTE (On TheRoad To Adventure @ Mar 3 2011, 10:10 AM) Although I graduated from high school the year 2112 came out, Rush was totally off of my radar until I married a Rush fan. I was already in my 30's and fell immediately in love with Geddy's voice. I also loved Neil's rhyming lyrics in "The Enemy Within." I gradually came to appreciate Alex's guitar as well. I'm not a musician, so had a hard time distinguishing the different instruments at first! Don't laugh, it's not easy being a non-musician and a Rush fan. These boards are filled with musicians! Partly because of finances and partly because we live out in the sticks, my first concert was Snakes & Arrows. Their stage presence is so amazing - I became a true addict at that point. Last year I attended my first pre-concert get-together with fans, and was still disappointed that none of the women were avid fans. They all just seemed to be along for the ride, whereas, I'm probably a bigger fan than my husband now. We'll be travelling to Portland this summer for my 3rd Rush concert. Would love to meet some more female fans. Welcome to TRF I notice you are in BC. Not going to the Vancouver show? I'm going to be there and at the Gorge in WA. But I know several Rush gals will be at the Portland show. Keep checking the meet-up threads.... 12. QUOTE (-D-RocK- @ Mar 3 2011, 01:05 PM)Please help us who don't understand this terrible obsession of meeting the band by explaining why it is so important to get a personal audience with them...........? It's peculiar behavior bordering on dillusional.......if I may say. I look forward to your feedback, thank you in advance. I have a few theories about this. As human beings, I think we want to get close to those we admire. Why? Because we hope that their fame, wealth, success and perceived happiness will rub off on us. I've read some articles about the phenomenon of obsession with celebrities that agree with me on this point. Second, in the case of Rush, they are such incredible musicians, and musicians want to meet them because they consider them to be mentors. I found it interesting that when Alex was interviewed a while back, he said that he was really excited to meet Jimmy Page, one of his heroes. Third, a lot of us just want to be able to say "thank you!" and be acknowledged as fans. Like I said in my earlier post, I just try to focus on enjoying the band and their incredible music. Even though I would like to meet them, it's important to keep things in perspective. They're just people, after all.
  13. Wow! I thought Rush wasn't played much here on the West Coast, but it sounds like we actually get more than some of you. I wish we would hear the new stuff though, like Far Cry and Caravan. Apparently there are stations elsewhere that play them, but not here. We never hear anything newer than Time Stand Still. Steady rotation of Limelight, Spirit of Radio, Freewill, New World Man, Distant Early Warning, Subdivisions, Working Man, In the Mood, Closer to the Heart.

  15. I find I enjoy Rush more if I just forget about ever meeting them. The chances are so slim! When I first became a Rush fan I wanted desperately to meet them, but when I started calling the radio stations to win, I could never get through. I tried through Music Today, but found out that you have to be a U.S. resident. I'm a Canadian who usually travels to U.S. shows, and if you read the fine print, you have to be a resident of the state for most radio contests. Now I just enjoy going to the shows. But I still dream about meeting Alex on the golf course, Neil on the birdwatching trail, or Geddy in the wine store! It would have to be a chance meeting, but you never know!
  16. I wear my Time Machine T-shirt when I go grocery shopping and to the swimming pool. (I can't wear t-shirts with any insignias at work.) I never get comments from anyone except from the young kid in one of the local stores who likes Rush. I give him updates if I hear Rush is coming to our area.
