  1. I love the tone he gets out of his Les Paul. Also, like Iommi, I think he writes fantastic riffs. And, unlike people such as Vai or Malmsteen, he plays what fits the particular song.
  2. Brother MD! Slash? Say it ain't so! Have you heard his solo albums with various singers and with Myles Kennedy? Fantastic stuff.
  3. Malmsteen simply doesn't get that you don't have to show everything you have in every song.
  4. Along the same lines as Malmsteen, I'll nominate Steve Vai. All the dexterity in the world. Completely bloodless though. Which is why, incidentally, Joe Perry doesn't belong on this list. Perry may not be a virtuoso by the standard of EVH, Vai, Malmsteen, etc., but he's written some great tunes, and plays what's appropriate for them. And I don't hear many people overrating his playing ability.
  5. Great call. He has absolutely zero feel for a song. He and Ronnie James Dio did a cover of Dream On. Horrible. Because of Malmsteen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZamjrXCDvo
  6. Awesome! Were you in the shot? :) No. They had blocked off the streets on either side of the alleyway. But they were shooting around Boston for a while, always in the early evening. Aww..! Bet you'd loved to have been in it..! Don't get me wrong. I tried. If I were a little more photogenic maybe the production crew wouldn't have kept chasing me off with a broom.

  8. I remember when they were filming this in Boston in November 2011. It was right around the corner from my office. As I was walking to the train one Saturday or Sunday in the early evening, Ryan Reynolds was running down an alley way with a camera alongside. It'll be interesting to see the finished product.
  9. Yep. Paul does not cheat you on his live show. I cannot wait. I did a quick glance of the setlist, but I am not going to study it. I don't even remember the opener, but I do remember the closer :) When I saw him at Fenway a couple of years ago, I was amazed at the variety of stuff he did (for example, from The Fireman). And I still jumped during Live and Let Die, even though everyone in the park knew what was coming after "say Live and Let Diiiie !"
  10. I thought I was the only one that noticed Parker giving Joe a book. I thought she was one of his followers too! I did too. Particularly where, an episode or two later, she tells Ryan she thinks it's time she and Joe meet. She had already met him. Maybe that was just a loose end that they never did anything with. You know If you hadn't said that Parker told Ryan "it's time to meet Joe", I never would have recalled that! Wow. I really am looking forward to see what happens next season! That's what made me think she was a follower. Me too, I think we discussed that back when it happened. I'm guessing they did that to keep the audience guessing. With all the people popping up in his cult, they wanted to keep us on our toes. As frustrated as I was at times with the show, not having it on last night seemed strange in a way. We did. I think Sheldon's probably right, they were thinking of going that way at one time, or at least leaving the possibility open, and then just let it go.
  11. Lincoln. All the hype was true, particularly about Day-Lewis. I'm glad we didn't let the kids watch it though. The liberal use of the "n word" isn't something I feel like explaining to a 9 and 7 year old just yet. The scenes showing the debate in congress over the 13th Amendment, with some of the insults hurled back and forth, were priceless

  13. I usually agree, but for some reason, I've found some of Ozzy's "bonus tracks" to be better than many of the tracks from said album. We will see with this Sabbath one though... What bonus tracks do you mean? Oh, from Ozzy? Well, the first one that comes to mind immediately is "Nightmare". It was a bonus track from Black Rain. I know many are not crazy about current Ozzy, but I actually found Black Rain pretty good overall. But...Nightmare stands out as a song that kills most of what's on the actual record, to the point where I'm like, "what the hell were they thinking leaving this off?" He had another called "Don't Blame Me", from the 90's I believe, which I really like as well. There are others. I like Nightmare. I guess I'm showing my age. I was looking back to stuff like You Looking at Me (Looking at You) and One Up the B-Side. Both good tracks, but not really better than anything on Blizzard or Bark at the Moon, respectively. You're right, though. In more recent years Ozzy has offered "bonus tracks" on his "deluxe editions" that are pretty solid. All of Ozzy's solo stuff is enjoyable if you're in the mood for Ozzy, as I just finished being.

  16. Originally I thought Joe was most definitely dead. The more I think about it, the less convinced I am. Emma's a good character, but she's another one of the "broken" types Joe built his cult out of. Joe was the charismatic leader. There's no reason to think Emma or Mollie could have "followers." Same deal with Claire. I just don't know. The scene where Ryan shot the follower after they find Parker was good, if nicked from Se7en. What's the deal with her family background in a cult, and her giving a book to Joe back around episode 3 or so? Lots of unanswered questions

  18. While the guys below were more in my demographic wheelhouse, it's sad to hear that someone so young passed away: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7IVAH1JauE
  19. Things like this start to take longer as we get older... :codger: Eat more fruit dude.
  20. I disagree. I saw Ozzy in 1982, 1983 and 1984. Ozzy's never been a great technical "singer" (Dio was much more gifted in that regard than Ozzy) but his voice is distinctive, and, if you like it, you like it. Ozzy's appeal live has always been that his voice is "cool" (again, if you like him) and he is a fantastic performer. But I have read reviews of the Australian shows, written by "fanboys," that suggest that some nights he has not sounded good. I'm still going when they come to the Comcast Center if I can.
  21. My wife just had her ACL replaced. We checked in at the hospital at 9 am. We were home by 2 pm. Your research project is allograft (cadaver ACL) vs. autograft (using your hamstring). She went with the allograft because she's not an Olympic athlete. Good luck.
  22. This is better than God is Dead? in my opinion. They should have led with this track.
  23. Maybe... could be shitty too. I am still on the fence as to watching season 2. I'm in. I can always abandon ship if it sucks. I guess it all depends what's on against it. But, then again, I don't watch nearly as much TV in the fall as I do winter and spring.... FOOTBALL!! Indeed!
