I have to admit, I like the Triumph version much more. I like Kansas a lot, but their Hold On just doesn't have the oomph.

That is excellent Tim.

I thought of that but didn't do it!

Three Prog Giants battling instead of just two?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Maybe I did blow it.

Dude...calling Triumph Prog is a stretch, don't ya think?

And Yes's Hold On is a great tune.

Hey dude!

You could argue that for sure.

Triumph started out as a hard rock band but I think they evolved into a prog lite rock band in the early Eighties.

Then of course they turned into another commercial rock pop band after their "Stages" live record.

Was "Thunder Seven" considered commercial rock? Perhaps.

Overall I would consider Triumph progressive.

This could make for a good debate. Maybe I am wrong but for some reason I always thought Triumph was progressive rock.

I always thought they were trying to emulate RUSH at a lower level of musicianship since Rik and Co. were also a three piece out of Canada.

"Always the bridesmaid never the bride."

So who is a better guitar player? Alex or Rik???

Earl

That Rik and Alex argument is a photo finish for me!! unsure.gif biggrin.gif I love both of them!! 1022.gif

Rush fans who don't know much about Rik Emmett need to do them selves a favor and listen to all of what he has to offer. With Triumph and his solo career!! 1022.gif

It wouldn't need to be argued here. My second favorite website, Progarchives, lists them as Prog-Related.

Let's not get into who's a better guitar player. Like the type of music one likes, that is subjective. Both have outstanding styles.

There is a nice Hold On by Yes on 90125.

I voted for Kansas here, because that song is on my iPod.

I think Rick is a better classical style guitarist, but Alex rocks harder and is more creative with his parts. In my humble opinion of course. Both great players.

I think you might be right however Alex does show off his classical skills in the beginning of "La Villa."

I wish Alex would do more of that classical thing on the next record!
