taurus
Conventional wisdom says that the ESL album (Sides 1, 3 & 4) were taken from the March 27th show in Montreal but I've been listening to a lot of the MP tour recordings lately and think I've confirmed what I had previously suspected, LVS on ESL is mostly (not entirely) sourced from Toronto 1981 03 24. I think possibly TSOR as well with massive overdubs of the vocal track - but that is more difficult to confirm. Did the band record multi-tracks for the 3 night stand in TO, that would seem to make sense if they planned to release a live album from the tour. Anyone remember reading anything about this? Grover
I believe TSOR is from Toronto. I was at two of the three shows. I believe Red Barchetta is from Montreal. I've never seen a list of the track sources.

That's the story I heard from a guy I used to tape trade with many years ago. La Villa really got tightened up for the release. I really love the beginning where Alex goes off on a tangent on that 3/24/81 recording. Don't know much about the rest of the songs, but it does appear that La Villa came from 3/24. Not 100 percent positive, but I think King Biscuit recorded it as well or their equipment was used. No clue if it was broadcast before or after Exit...Stage Left was released though. I would tend to think it may have been broadcast just before the album release to promote it or after, but that's just a guess.
