savagegrace26
It's cold comfortTo the ones without itTo know how they struggledHow they suffered about itIf their lives were exotic and strangeThey would likely have gladly exchanged themFor something a little more plainMaybe something a little more sane
Lorraine
For me, it is these very true and very sad lyrics from Losing It: Some are born to move the world -To live their fantasiesBut most of us just dream aboutThe things we'd like to be Sadder still to watch it dieThan never to have known itFor you - the blind who once could see -The bell tolls for thee... Those lyrics never fail to send chills down my spine, even when I'm just reading them It is even worse when you've lived them. I think everyone has regrets when they get older. Things they wish they'd done. It amazes me how many of Neil's lyrics are about getting older, even when he was young. Old soul in a young body. Funny you mention that because, when I was listening to the song yesterday, I thought how could Neil know this at the age of 28? 27? which is about when he would have written the lyrics. EagleMoon
Remembering when first I heldThe wheel in my own handsI took the helm so eagerlyAnd sailed for distant landsBut now the sea's too heavyAnd I just...I just don't understandWhy must my crew desert me?When I need...I need a guiding hand... toymaker
Neil was a huge reader - he would have absorbed a lot of those sentiments from the Hemingway and the other classics, maybe. I know I always felt wiser than my years when I was a naive high school student and undergraduate reading the "big" books. Now I am fully committed to the conviction that I am really not that bright.
