Creating a set-list

The Spirit Of Radio is always a classic opener. Good way to hook in the casual Rush fan.

My advice would be to mix in the 'greatest hits' with the 'B-side' classics. Once again, to keep the casual Rush fan from being disinterested (as well as throwing a bone to the superfans).

It is hard to give too many specific song suggestions without knowing what songs your band can play along with knowing what your strong and weak points are.

Getting the Geddy voice right may be the most difficult thing for a tribute band to nail. So, if the vocals aren't the best, there are certainly plenty of incredible intrumentals to include.

Anyways,

good luck and rock on!!!!

Thanks for your input. We have a good mix of classic hits and B-sides for sure. We wanna tend to overload the first 1/2 of a gig with all the hits (for those casual fans) becuase they far out weigh the superfans.

Plus after a break the crowd typically thins out and only the superfans will remain.

What songs does your band know? Give a list, this could be fun.

I believe good sets are like good plays or movies, they have acts, changes in mood and tone, etc.

You can also check out Rush's own setlists from over the years: http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/setlists.php

You pretty much have most of the songs we know, or will know soon.

Good set list but Camera Eye shouldn't start off the 2nd set. Move Analog Kid up to start to have a high energy hit kick it off...the rest is great!

If you want an epic intro, my band used to play the intro of Xanadu and right where the tempo picks up, go straight into Spirit. Works pretty damn well.

If it were me:

Xanadu Intro

The Spirit of Radio

Tom Sawyer (Spirit ends on E and Tom starts with it so it can flow nicely)

Then you can go wherever you like. That's just my 2 cents for a way to kick things off. End with Working Man for a bang!

Edit: Sometimes it's fun to throw the Cygnus X-1 riff between Spirit and Tom as that too revolves around the E. Just a fun little tease.

Edit 2: Here I whipped up a sample so you can hear Xanadu to Spirit to Tom Sawyer. You have do download it because I couldn't find a faster way.. but, here ya go. No viruses. Scouts honor.

Good point! I was thinking of it being theatrical to have the intro of the song kind of sneak up on you, but in a bar that probably wouldn't work (as opposed, to, say, a darkened arena smile.gif).

Why would you do the INTRO to SoR? Just go straight into Riff a.
