Reminiscing about R30

Being my first Rush show I was blown away by everything. O'Baterista was amazing, and, actually kind of funny to me since Neil reversed his rolls in it from low to high, unlike in the Vapor Trails tour.

Dreamline was awesome to hear, always loved the lyrics.

La Villa live was so awesome... but I think Alex should play the acoustic intro from the Hemisphere's Album version.

It was good hearing all the classics but I definitely enjoyed hearing some of the more "colorful" Rush songs.

By Tor was especially hilarious- Alex and Geddy had this huge "cat fight" and then at the end Alex picked up this piece of tissue like paper and chucked towards Geddy- only went like 2 feet, I was laughing my head off. Oh, and Neil with his Pirate Eye-patch, pretty funny stuff.

(Saratoga Springs concert, August 9th)

That's right! Woo hooo! Between the Wheels and Mystic Rythms were awesome too. Also, people's reaction to the lyrics " got a sister out in Vegas" during Dreamline was cool.

Simply getting to see them again after 12 long years

You said it.

yes.gif

The gigs themselves were the highlight....but

Also for me it was getting a phone call 24 hours before the gig at Wembley, offering me a meet and greet pass. I got to go backstage during the soundcheck to collect it!!!

Then at Birmingham it was the whole day. EuCon, meeting Madra by chance outside, and then bumping int TH1 inside the venue.

I agree with The Professor that "Between the Wheels" was very nice to hear. What a rockin' surprise that was! They haven't played that in so long, from what I remember of the prior shows since Grace Under Pressure... 2.gif

In a strange way, one of my highlights was a moment outside the NEC in Birmingham about 2 hours before the gig. My brother and I were sitting outside the NEC, and a guy in his late 40s walked past with his son, who was about 15, both dressed in Rush T Shirts.

I just thought it looked so wonderful. Then, I noticed this guy with long hair that looked familiar, and started straining my eyes to try and read the back of his T Shirt. Chas had posted a picture of his shirt on CP the week before, with a slogan on the back (Something like "Rock and Roll, invented in America, developed in Britian, perfected by three guys in Canada"?? - Chas, help me out here!!!!!).

Indeed , it was him (see pic above).

Inside, butterflies flew formation in my stomach as the gig drew nearer, I got talking to a guy who'd travelled up from London, he was speculating about the setlist, I'm proud I managed to keep my mouth shut!!).

Then the lights came down, Jerry Stiller came on and you know the rest.

The absolute highlight though was talking to my 11 year old daughter on the mobile from Birmingham International Station after the gig, to be told that she and my 10 year old son put on the RIR DVD at home at 7.30, so they could watch Rush like Daddy.

Someday, baby, someday..........

I saw them in Milwaukee back in June, and it was yet again another fantasic show. the R30 Overture was great, in fact the entire setlist was great. After 30 years the guys still have it, and I can't wait to see them again. This was my 2nd RUSH concert, I got to see them during the Vapor Trails tour also in Milwaukee, which was another memorable experience. Now that I live in the south and I'm closer to a few more bigger cities, I can suspect that I'll be hitting multiple shows. smile.gif

But there were some bad points. Some how, as my luck would have it, both concerts I managed to become ill in some form or another, with the R30 show being the time I managed to get food poisoning before I even left for Milwaukee. And being that I'm not overly tall (5'8"), during the Vapor Trails tour I had considerably taller people in front of me, blocking my view. During the R30 tour, I happened to get seated right behind the video camera they had set up for the big screens. At least I could see SOME of what was going on around the camera though. Next tour I vow to get better seats and not get sick. smile.gif

I sat pretty far back on the floor for most of the Vegas show...but I did get to see part of it, the drum solo specifically, from the 6th row. biggrin.gif

Thanks for an excuse to post some Death Valley/Vegas pics again. This trip, and hanging with RR, Digital Man, CygnusX-1Bk2, Earthshine and a bunch of other supercool Rush folks was absolutely an R30 highlight for me.

My trip to RCMH was another highlight---hanging with 1-0-0-1, Digital Man again smile.gif, Singularity and MORE Rush folks...YES, more pics. biggrin.gif
