Made a new pickguard

After seeing Geddy Lee's new fangled custom pickguard this tour it got me thinking of getting a new one myself. But I'll be damned if I'll pay 50 bucks for a different colour no.gif

I work at a countertop shop that deals with mostly solid surface (Corian, Avonite, Hi-Macs, etc...) and my job is handling all the AutoCAD drawing and CNC router operation. So I figured "hell, why not make one out of Corian!"

About 20 minutes of drawing and checking, 15 minutes of CNC programming, 10 minutes to cut, and about 45 minutes of sanding and polishing, BAM! A brand new jazz bass pickguard made entirely out of Corian solid surface (colour "Witch Hazel") smile.gif

Very nice, but you should have cut a trussrod access area so you don't have to take it off to adjust the neck. Other than that it is extremely cool!

Good thinkin, I never actually thought about that since the pickguard that came with the bass didn't have a cut-out. I'll add that in when I get a chance. Thanks trink39.gif

Whats that thing weigh? Its pretty cool!

Surprisingly it weighs pretty much the same as a normal pickguard. A full sheet of this stuff (144"x30") is normally about a hundred pounds, but after being milled down real thin like that, it's almost nothing (really, you can even see through it laugh.gif ) Fragile at this point, though..
