Earthshine
Ever wondered what Billy could do on a 4 piece kit? Well here he is in 1968 with Horace Silver. Notice that Billy is playing left-handed traditional grip. He can play any grip equally great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2VYKgFBH3A&feature=related I hear all kinds of influences here: Blakey, Elvin, Tony... Here they are doing a tune that was on Burning For Buddy called Nutville. Here is the whole show along with an early Elvin Jones show also from 1968. Espcially check out his solo at 39:40. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=35...76728605&hl=en# People ask me why I am not into so-called "modern jazz" drummers; Bill Stewart, Brian Blade, Dave Weckl etc,. The reason is that when you have seen and heard the very best, they cannot be followed. This is an example of some of the absolute best.
RUSHHEAD666
What a great year and a great drummer! 1968? The year I was born and it was also the same year when the Kansas City A's moved to Oakland! Billy Cobham is Beyond Beyond! One of the greatest drummers on the planet.
