Batman
I know when a TV series has run its course it trys to live on by doing something crazy to boost ratings ie: Happy Days Fonzie jumps a shark. I was listening to Metallica yesterday on the way to work and starting wondering if the same can be said about bands? these are some that came to mind Metallica jumped the Shark with the the black album or load depending on your tastes Reo Speedwagon Wheels Are Turnin' Stxy MR. Roboto Ted Nugget The Dam Yankees Ozzy Ozmois Van Halen 1984 Any others?

Jack Aubrey
QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Feb 18 2005, 01:47 PM) QUOTE (Test4VitalSigns @ Feb 18 2005, 12:03 PM) U2-Joshua Tree Oooh, I'd have to respectfully disagree. Same here, 'Joshua Tree' is my favorite U2 album. Now, if you'd have said 'Zooropa', I would agree with you.
GhostGirl
As far as I'm concerned, U2 hasn't made the jump yet. 'Zooropa' is definitely an acquired taste.
Test4VitalSigns
I picked Joshua Tree because it was the album that made them too big...too mainstream for my liking. I actually like Joshua Tree a lot but after that album (with the exception of Achtung baby my fav u2 album) They didn't do anything for me and Bono's head got too big and became a "rock star".....Same applies to Metallica...The black album made them too mainstream and they weren't the special band they were before, but I like the album itself. Last good Metallica album in my opinion. To me "jumping the shark" means when a tv show or band does something which changes it's persona so to speak which makes them less special then it was before. It doesn't mean the albums are bad music or anything.

I can see your reasoning. Nicely explained. Thanks. GG
Sodoff Baldrick
Beatles - and we can argue this one to death - the death of Brian Epstein. Yes, they did continue to put out some good music, but in terms of management this is when they hit the ramp.

It was then that Genesis seemed to turn into Phil's backing band.
