Rushesque Lyrics

I try quite often and usually fail. At first it looks good but then I wake up the next morning and take a look and it's awful, I can't even stand to keep it and it goes straight in the bin.

Anyone written any Rush style lyrics they are proud of and are willing to share? Or at least tell us what it's about?

I want to write some The Necromancer style epic about Inman's adventure in the book Cold Mountain... It's not going too well.

"Rock for Life"

(The Beginning) Part I of IV

Ive Listened to the Songs,

Been watching the videos,

Dream of it all night long,

During the highs and lows.

Finally one Night I knew,

Gonna play Rock n Roll.

Next Day I was driving,

To that Big guitar store.

A man with a smile,

Greeted me at the door,

Looked at me and said,

What are you here for.

I got me some bucks,

Wanna Buy a rock guitar,

Man Says "Your in Luck"

Bought it and got in the car.

Got home and started to play,

Taking tune very far,

And on that fatefull day,

A Step closer to rock star.

Chorus:

Im gonna play till I die,

Play till im winning,

That status in the sky,

Were all dreams in the beginning.

End Chorus

Played it all night long,

Started to feel the heat,

Played all my favorite songs,

Even after I fell asleep.

This one single masterpiece,

One of metal and Wood,

This Will become my life,

I had a feeling it would.

"Rock for Life"

(Lessons in Play) Part II of IV

Been Playing it hard,

Been Keeping it Rock,

No matter if I go far,

Im gonna Be on Track,

Been Putting it all out,

With some real Agression,

In my skills I have doubt,

Its time for some lessons.

The Cost was so high,

Was about to throw a fit,

Prices made me wanna cry,

But it was well worth it.

I couldnt believe it,

The man Had gifted hands,

Taught me everything I needed,

To be in a Rock n Roll band.

Chorus:

He gave me somthing to do,

Each and every single day,

As I was going through,

Through the lessons in play.

End Chorus

Listened with everything I had,

As I learned from the best,

How to play the opposite of bad,

How to play better than the rest,

And so it was time to end it,

On a gloomy november day,

So I said goodbye to,

The man who taught me to play.

and So I learned my share,

Gonna play it my way,

Gonna keep rock n roll there

Ive had my lessons in play.

Yes this whole thing was written 2 years ago, when I was in the "Party, Thrash and to hell with you if you dont like rock n roll" Phase. So it has quite an un-orginized, party hard feel. Thats not where im at anymore though, my new stuff is way better. But this is the only one I have thats chopped into bits.

It was supposed to be about A kid who wants a band, gets a guitar, a band, and then crash and burn.

"Rock for Life"

(Rock n Roll Rising) Part III of IV

Bought my Guitar,

Took some mean lessons,

Im trying to give you,

The Rock n Roll Confession.

Looking for some members

Who are willing to play

Im looking for the best,

Guys who will jam all day.

My addiction to rock increased,

The coals are hot and firing,

Five is the number of my beast,

Im four short and hiring.

Got my 3 guitars,

Drums and rhythm.

The average Public,

Wont know what hit em'

Chorus

Who are you to say,

Were not even Trying,

I think were better than okay,

Were just rock n roll rising.

End Chorus

All the Cards are in the deck,

All the Pieces are in Play,

I guess its just your luck,

That we can do this all day.

We got ourselfs a gig,

Got ourselfs blaring guitars,

A guy who can really sing,

We are all rock n roll stars.

Yea we got double stacks,

Yea We are gonna play in town,

Get your head out of your ass,

Cause were gonna blow up your town.

Better than your Appetizers,

We aint no rock n roll whores,

We aint gonna be no side dish,

No baby, we the main course.

So get yourself a Babysitter,

You got to come and see us.

We arent no one hit, quitter,

In making you deaf, We trust.

We gonna get you goin,

Volume level is climbing,

Get your head a throwing,

Cause were Rock n Roll Rising

Did you write music for it or just the lyrics? Too many times I've written lyrics and never done anything with them.

"Rock for Life" (Quite a lengthy one)

(Title Track) Part IV

Playing my Guitar,

In my rock n roll Band,

Dont want to go far,

Or follow those trends.

Ask me what you like

Tell me what you will

At the end of the night

Just send me the bill.

People in the now,

Dont respect the greats,

They follow the crowds,

They feast on the bait.

Men doing their hair,

Women picking the fights,

None of it seems fair,

None of it seems right.

Weve been called saviors,

Weve been called crazy,

Ask a fan who they favor,

They love my band and me.

Chorus:

Were gonna rock n roll hard,

Gonna bring it back to hieght,

Give it a big jumpstart.

Now its gonna be rock for life.

Rock for Life x2

Gonna drop the bomb

Rock for Life X2

And were running strong.

End chorus

You dont know what its like,

Too keep this kind of fan,

Its been a long flight,

and its near time to land.

Do you got any drugs?

Got any deals you can cut?

How bout a drink to chug,

Guess im fresh outa luck.

There is no other life,

Thats as good as mine,

Though im lucky to be alive,

Leaving everything behind.

Chorus Repeat

Its a crying, whining, tear shedding shame,

That we are to messed up,

To keep in this rock n roll game.

Things are getting out of control,

Things are getting a little insane,

Next the fans will want our soul.

Im not about to keep in this game.

Lost total track of the years,

Been on the road for so long,

Keep myself full of dope and beer,

Just to keep myself headstrong.

Please Someone give me a hand,

Were pulling a full jackknife,

Will you Help me run this band?

Cant stay in Rock for Life.

Well nowadays, I write lyrics to fit a tune. I have not fit any music on these lyrics, and don't plan to. Ill put one of my newer ones on if you'd like.

I say go for it. Will be interesting to see how your writing has changed over time. cool.gif

"Way of Life"

The year is Twenty, Nintey five,

And time has taken its toll,

The fear is taking, Every life,

Death is closer to us all.

The streets are torn and littered,

With the rem-nents of human life,

In all corners of the Broken world,

We are fighting to survive.

(Brief Solo)

Patriot is a dying breed,

Its the fight for your own life,

Anti-war is non existent,

We all have the same drive.

Tread silently in the night,

Full of bombs and fire,

That set the dark alight,

Then fall back to retire.

And this is our way of life

We keep holding on

Our way of life

Singing the same old song (Star Spangled Banner)

Metal beasts and the men,

Crowd the land around the city,

Then attack till the end,

Untill Rubble is all you see.

Nuclear blasts are no myth,

They are a harsh reality,

Killing everyone in their path,

Destroying your Morality.

And this is your way of life

Thats one me and my friends have worked near to complete.

I have to say I like this way better than some of the stereotypical and cliche lyrics in your earlier stuff. Great song. Hopefully when you've finished it you'll be able to put a recording up instead of just the words? wink.gif

Like I said, me and my friends (Drums, Bass, Me) have already ran it through quite a few times. We want to record, but we aren't too wealthy. If you want decent equipment you need to pay an arm and leg.

But my friend does have a video camera, and we were thinking about tossing a clip or two on youtube. Ill let you know when, and if we do.

Do you play any instruments?

Nice one, you can sound pretty decent with just a video camera as I'm sure you've seen from YouTube clips before. Here's one of me and my friend playing Fly By Night (With a few silly mistakes) which was filmed using the video setting on an inexpensive digital camera - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzhflnv-t-A

So I think that answers your other question. I play guitar and bass and am trying to sort some bass pedals out as I'm currently organising a Prog-Rock band where I would play bass and bass pedals.

You're the guitarist I would guess?

Yes, good guess. haha. Like you said, a few silly mistakes but nothing time and some practice won't heal, nice clip though!

I love playing guitar, I have a Sammick Les Paul, And my good ol' Marshall.

Yeah as the video description says I used to be in a band with the guy on bass we hadn't played together in so long when this clip was recorded which was maybe 5 months ago now and we haven't done much since so it would probably be bloody awful now. laugh.gif

Nice I love Les Pauls, I have a Schecter at the moment but the more I get into playing bass the more I can't resist thinking of buying a Rick.

Haha, Ive been playing guitar for about 3 years now. Its by far the most fun thing to do. I used to skateboard alot, party and all that. But it seems that more recently music has just been #1.

I love writing lyric though, whether I be at home or in class. Its always a fun thing to do, because later on ill be messing around on guitar, and find a cool sounding riff that would sound great with some lyric I've already written.

Yeah agreed, if you have a good flow of ideas it's always fun to write music and lyrics. I find it very difficult as an individual to come up with a full song though so hopefully now I'm getting back into a band with guys who have a similar vision about what I want from a band we can come up with something decent. cool.gif

"Tragic Hero" (This is one im just gonna write on the spot)

Our distant friend,

The man we ignore most,

The one who can help,

Everyone and himself,

And he has taken the oath.

The world is in crisis,

Full of bad tune and song,

This man can assist,

In your new music resist,

That you've had for so long.

He appears on the stage,

To play you his special sounds,

Full of life,

Full of life,

As he mesmorizes the crowds.

So keep your head up high,

For this man is your saviour,

He will save,

This "New Age",

Giving his music tasteful flavor.

But the new crowd is strong,

In their own will to resist,

They ignore,

Your humble chore,

Then hurl their fists.

Our friend is shot down,

To the status of zero,

No more,

No score,

The story of our Trajic hero

Comes to an end. cool.gif

Nice job on Fly By Night! In checking out your clip I came across this audio track. Geddy announces this as being the first time RUSH played "Fly By Night" live. They don't quite nail it either - and they wrote the song!

[Four Walls]

(Part I of IV)

"Wall of Tune"

We go through our lives,

Building our tastes,

Advancing,

Evolving,

Bad tunes go to waste.

Music creates the space,

To relieve our frustration,

Hang up the drapes,

Make your escape,

Escape to a music vacation.

(Chorus)

So hang your head high,

Listening to it all,

Music creates your world,

The reason to be alive,

And it creates our first wall.

(End chorus)

So paint this wall of color,

Colors that fit your attitude,

Don't you be shy,

Don't you be shy,

Show some silent gratitude.

But build this wall strong,

Build it with the perfect sound,

Make it steady,

Make it steady,

So it doesn't come crashing down.

If this wall comes down,

So will all of the four,

It keeps you living,

It gives you taste,

Its what your here for.
