spitball
I saw a video interview of Alex showing his gear for the latest tour. The black Gibson ES-345 is visible in the guitar rack. I haven't seen him bring that one out live since 1980 or 81 (see below). I assume it's a backup. Has anyone noticed if he's had occasion to use it this year? http://home.att.net/~njsignals/es335/lifeson345.jpg
Soni
I don't know. But a black ES looks as sweet as a white one!

LerxstFerret
I saw some roadie tuning it. Shame he didn't use it. It's probably a back-up if he breaks a string or something.

lifeson76
I've seen them twice, and have watched the 'Tastes Like Chicken' DVD a couple times, he uses Les Pauls, the PRS on one song (Mission), and the white ES-355 for the encore.
pony2112
The black one was used on Bangkok, and Geddy used his doubleneck to play rythem on the solo.
lifeson76
Hmmm...I don't think Ged has the doublneck on this tour...he did break out the old Rick for Bangkok though, which was cool. What show did you see Lerxst using the black one for Bangkok?

I really didn't like it as I wanted a solid body and I thought the ES was a jazz guitar and kind of boring looking ... but it still sounded great ... as fate would have it, I saw Rush open for Kiss and saw Alex playing the same exact model I had ... Alex and his 68 tobacco ES became a Rock God to me! suddenly, I loved my ES!

Pony, thanks for verifying that. I have listened to the 9/30/80 bootleg and tried to figure out where Geddy might use a double-neck outside of Xanadu. Passage to Bangkok sounded like the one other time.
