Arndrake Posted September 7, 2006 Share Posted September 7, 2006 For Labor Day Weekend, I went camping at my old home community of Diamond Lake. For those who do not know (all Oregonians better know), Diamond Lake is in the Southern Oregon Cascades, nestled between two mountains, Mt Thielsen and Mt Bailey. For many years, Diamond Lake was considered one of the best trout lakes in Oregon. I say was as an ecological catastrophe has almost killed the lake, but that is a topic for another thread I will post. But even then, it is a year round resort that offers activities dependant on the season. I used to live at Diamond Lake Resort from the time I was 11 until I graduated from high school and joined the Navy at 17. Then I came back with my wife at the time in '95 and worked there for two years while I went to school in Klamath Falls (150 mile round trip commute wasn't a good idea, as I discovered). My father has lived there for 25 years and still works there. Anyway, I drove down Saturday to camp with my sister, her family, and her friends. As Friday the 1st was my father's 65th birthday, we were also down to celebrate that. The whole gang rented a pontoon boat on Saturday while I was in transit, so I missed that. About ten years ago, while putting his boat in the lake, the rudder sheared off and fell to the bottom somewhere near the boat launch. Since then, he has been trying to find it with no success. As the lake was being lowered in preparation for poisoning (more on that later), Dad hoped this might be the opportunity to find the rudder. I suppose if you wanted to split hairs, Linda is no longer my aunt as my Uncle Jeff divorced her for a younger woman. But we still consider her as such and definitely like her more than Jeff's new wife. Thats what we do!!! and for this thanksgiving I will be doing the same but sorry I don't have a camera so I might be able to barrow but we will see!!
