_pete_
Nice, pricey, but nice. The only drawback is the maple neck. All Alex's Strats had rosewood fingerboards.

red_baron
I was thinking about my idea to make a copy of the black Sportscaster...but I wanna switch the chrome hardware to black, and use Floyd bridge with fine tuners (it's more easy to find here than the early one...). Pete, I saw your article at mojocaster.com and the wiring schematic is the same to all of them (red/white/black)?
_pete_
QUOTE (red_baron @ Jun 29 2007, 09:36 AM) I was thinking about my idea to make a copy of the black Sportscaster...but I wanna switch the chrome hardware to black, and use Floyd bridge with fine tuners (it's more easy to find here than the early one...). Pete, I saw your article at mojocaster.com and the wiring schematic is the same to all of them (red/white/black)? That schematic will work for all of them. I'm not sure how Alex had his wired but I would bet that it was that way. That scheme gives you the bridge pickup, the bridge/middle combination, and the neck pickup. Those combinations cover all the sounds he got with his Strats. I can't find any tones of his that sound like the neck & middle or the middle pickup by itself. I have my white one wired differently though. It has a standard 3 way switch (bridge /bridge+neck /neck) and a mini toggle that turns on the middle pickup. It also has a push/pull tone pot that splits the bridge pickup.

I've bought 3 of the L500 Rhythm pups so far. That is the same one that Alex used in the Sportscasters. If anyone wants that GUP sound, that is the pickup to get. I wish I had the cash right now to buy up a few of them.

Have you ever tried the L500 in anything else besides a strat? I've got one extra laying around and I'm thinking about istalling it in that Hamer I bought. _pete_
It's funny that this thread has risen from the dead. I built and sold a red Lifeson Strat a while ago and I built one for someone else just after that. Now I'm building myself another one. I have a nice MIJ Fender Floyd Strat that I need to use in the band and since it doesn't have the right look (it's a blue sunburst) I'm swapping the body with a Fender Chrome Red and adding a mirror pickguard. I just need to rout it for a Floyd this weekend and it will be ready to go.

Everything else is staying the same. If nothing else, it will be a good way to see just how much the body affects the tone. Since I need to use it live, it needs this little makeover. Since I don't look anything like Al, I at least want the gear to look authentic. After the gig I can always switch bodies back if need be.
jdouglas
Well, here she is......Thanks for all your help, pete... Had problems with the volume pod hole not being in the correct position for the 2007 MIM strat...had to shave the hole bigger..ahh!! I definately recommend letting pete do the work for anyone trying this, there are too many variables for the average axer.. http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb221/j22douglas/hentor3a.jpg http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb221/j22douglas/hentor1.jpg

She looks great! How does she sound? If you want a "Hentor Sportscaster" decal for the headstock, let me know and I'll run one off and mail it to you. You'll have to sand off the Fender logo, apply the new decal, and clearcoat the headstock. Oh, you should flip your output jack plate over too for the full effect. I got my swapping all done this weekend. I got a new neck on the white one (with a "Hentor Sportscaster decal of course) and swapped the red body and mirror pickguard on the other Strat. It actually sounds and plays better now. I'll get some pics up tomorrow.
