Principled Man
Just found out that some dear friends of mine had a "Man with a gun!" encounter at the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana this weekend. People were running out of the casino, while others hit the floor. My friend said that her legs felt like JELL-O as she and her husband were running out of the building. It turned out to be an armed robbery attempt. Some idiot tried to rob the place, briefly took a hostage, then ran out of the building....and was caught. "You think you know how you would react to that kind of situation until it happens," she said.
Mr. Not
I'm away on a little trip for the weekend so while I was getting ready for work this morning I packed my suitcase and backpack in addition to packing my tools, lunch, boots, etc... So I was taking several trips out to my car and then back into my "studio" flat. I live in a little house on a hillside out in the country and there are two tenants (a couple) who rent the 2 bed 1 bath above me, we have a shared hallway/staircase, but obviously I never use the staircase. Since i was taking four trips back and forth (usually i take one or two) I decided to leave my door open so I wouldn't have to keep opening/closing + it was 4:30 am so it's a courtesy thing as it reduces my noise pollution. Anyway, on my fourth trip back I turned out my lights, and as I picked up my suitcase my clothes fell out because I hadn't zipped it up (because I'm stupid), so I started gathering my clothes back into the suitcase using the shine from the outdoor deck's sensor light to see. It's a motion activated light, and on a timer, so before i finished loading my clothes the light went out and my eyes were taking a while to adjust to the dark. I continued to reload my suitcase only using my sense of touch, and as I was zipping it up i heard some "shifting" or "crinkling" behind me, as if someone on the far backside of my room was moving. I got up with my suitcase half-zipped and quickly closed and locked my door, which is around the same time I realized it was just the wind coming through the window and rustling the blinds. I like to keep my windows cracked just a couple inches when I'm away for fresh air, and I keep the blinds mostly closed - i lock them at about three inches above the windowsill. Just my mind playing tricks on me, my imagination always freaks me out a lot if I ever allow it to whisper things into my ear.
