I saw them in NYC for their 40th anniversary concert. The original band played three songs to close the night! It was amazing, but I was shocked at how few were in attendance. I think the venue was the House of Blues. Definitely in Manhattan. And there probably wasn't even 200 people there. I walked up to the ticket both, thinking it was probably sold out, because NYC! Blue Oyster Cult! All five original members back together for the first time in many years! I ended up with a fifth row ticket a mere 30 minutes before the concert was scheduled to start. That's not because that ticket was just released, it's just that the concert was that badly undersold. Still amazes me. In their own hometown!

Wasn't that the night the subway flooded & the city had blackouts?

Super Storm Sandy hit October 29, 2012. The concert was November 5th, so, yeah, the city was still reeling from the effects of that storm. Didn't stop me, though! Looking this up, I now remember that it was the Best Buy Theater in NYC.

I saw them with Black Sabbath on the "Black and Blue" tour in 1980, Oct. 5, at Joe Louis Arena. All original members present, not so for Black Sabbath. Blue

Öyster Cult RULED THAT CONCERT! Still have the stub! I have ALL of my stubs... I also saw ZZ TOP in 1980 on the Degüello tour.

More and more I'm realizing how fortunate I was to witness that 40th anniversary concert. The original five hadn't played together in something like 27 years. Allen Lanier was dead less than a year later. :rose:

I like Blue Oyster Cult. I haven't, and don't listen to them too much, though. I haven't seen them in concert in person. To name two bands, and groups, I think they are similar to Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath.

You must explore Derek.

Earl, When I have more free time, I might listen to more of Blue Oyster Cult's music. With possibly, and maybe, if it wasn't a joke, of getting a tattoo of Blue Oyster Cult's ancient symbol logo on one arm, and Rush's starman logo on the other arm, I would advise against of doing that.

Hahaha! Derek!

You kill me! So glad you are a newer member here who totally get me! Humans on here attack me daily for being me.

You are a good egg.

I have zero tattoos.

I will never get one.

I was born in my birthday suit and I will die in my birthday suit.

Nothing against tats.

Amazing art for humans who want to do it!

Tempted.

But I will get the Starman etched on my tombstone.

It's in my last will and testimony.

My daughters know.

All good.

You ROCK!

If you look up "tasty lick" in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Buck. He's got more of them to his name than just about any other guitarist. He was one of my first guitar idols (from back in the "Fire of Unknown Origin" days) and still is to this day.

Oh hell yes.

So underrated.

I was in the pit at a high school watching him play his moon cheese guitar.

A Legend on the axe and with the vocals.

Bloom and Buck are Ageless. Epic Eternals.

I feel so sorry for the few humans who just don't get it.

We who understand "The Pact" get it.

Soft White Underbelly RULE LIKE RUSH!

BOC HATERS? Good for you.

Enjoy your EMO boy bands and shite female vocal shite metal bands. LOL!

Blue Oyster Cult should be in the LAME HALL OF FAME! RIDICULOUS!

CUTOSAUROUS ERECTOUS!

"BLACK BLADE" BITCH!

Thank you, Earl. I do appreciate that. I don't, and haven't liked some people, who are bad eggs, and try to ruin it for the good ones. I don't have any tattoos, and piercings, and wouldn't get either one, too. Depending on what kind they are, tattoos can be, and are good art.

One of my favorite bands ever. Damn.

They do the club/casino tour nowadays. They're going to play at the Silver Queen this summer. I was going to see them at The Skagit casino before Lanier died, but the only tickets they had left were the VIP package that included a suite in the hotel and other stuff. Like Rush, they started as a Brainiac version of rock and metal in the '70's. Even their late career album are great. Curse Of The Hidden Mirror is as good as anything they've ever done and better than a lot of bands will ever be. Its a shame most people stop at Fire Of Unknown Origin. Hell, at least give The Revolution By Night a chance.

They started out as a biker band in the early '70's and had the balls to show up with their own mythos. I love the story where they came up with some BS that they played at Mt. Rushmore and Bloom jumped off of George Washington's nose as a stunt. On the next tour they picked up a hitchhiker while traveling and the guy said he had seen the stunt. I pissed off the lead guitar player in my last band by suggesting a couple of BOC songs. We already had an original that sounded like something they would write. He wanted me to change the bass line I worked out because it sounded like something Bouchard would have done.

What a f***ing band. Definitely lifetime Top 10 stuff.

Yeah, I've decided to give all of their post-Fire of Unknown Origin albums a chance. Been hearing lots of good things about them, lately.

I've found some clips from that concert on Youtube! The original five closed out the night with "Career of Evil," "The Red & the Black," and "(Don't Fear) the Reaper." Before that they had Allen Lanier up on the stage to help perform "In Thee."
