Visited mum at home today.

She is still pretty frail obviously but her speech has improved a little And she seemed more chatty.

I'm glad to hear this!

Sorry to hear this Lindsey. My mother in law had a stroke about 10 years ago. Other than some language difficulties, she's recovered fully and still lives on her own at 87. So there is hope for recovery.

The thing we're wondering is:

Will she recover before the cancer takes over?

Don't worry, I know we'll just have to wait and see.

I haven’t been here for a while and just saw this. Glad your mom seems to be doing better. Hopefully she will continue to do so.

Eagle Moon! :hi:

The problem is she is doing better in some things but not others.

I HATE these situations. "Wait and See" type stuff....I've had to deal with them all too many times myself... all power and love to your Mom and Family, Lyndsey!

To update a rather convoluted story:

Mum was sent home last Friday but didn't do so well. She has been taken into a rehabilitation clinic, which used to be a small hospital on the outskirts of our home town. She will be there for a few weeks. After that, we are not sure. It will depend on how she responds.

Thinking of you in the midst of your worry - and hoping that they'll figure out the right combination of meds, therapy and support that will allow your mum to regain some activity and comfort. :hug2:

I hope she responds well, Lyndsey!

Thank you BluesChica!

We got home about ten minutes ago.

She's comfortable... about the same as she was last time we visited. Maybe a bit more chatty.

So mum was sent home - against our wishes. She was there for about an hour before having another fall and needing an ambulance again. They have since taken her back to the rehabilitation centre.

We knew she wasn't ready. :rage:

Seems they need to be a bit more perceptive than they are about these things.

:hug2: I think many problems could be avoided if the facilities would listen to families more closely. I hope your mom gets the time she needs this time.

They have been giving mum more tests.

They think she may have a water infection.

They will do more therapy on her and arrange specialist stroke care for at home instead of the crappy re-enablement team that we were having to put up with.

This specialist care is orientated to stroke patients. She should never have had re-enablement care as that's for people who WILL DEFINITELY get better.

Apparently her Occuptaional Therapist was pissed that they sent her home early too.

I'm glad the therapist is standing up for her, too. Specialist care sounds like a good thing.

It turns out the nurses didn't think she was ready either.

Update:

Mum has a chest and water infection. She is on 3 types of antibiotics. We noticed that she seemed short of breath. She has also had two chest x-rays and theychave confirmed that it is a combination of the chest infection and tumours in her lungs.

She also seems to get mixed up with what day it is.
