Personally, up until this year, I never caught any other bass except largemouth. I didn't even know I caught the little smallie until RoR had told LSM that what was caught. She gave us a nice little lesson on how to tell the difference..... The trout you caught are sweet!! I caught a trout (was the first fish I caught) on a Rooster Tail (bass size). He came from under the docks & slammed the lure! I'd guess it was about pound & a half. We're hoping to get some fly fishing stuff too. We saw that Walmart had a sale on cheap fly fishing rods. They were being sold for $15 a piece but we didn't have the $$$ at the time. Anyway, we're hoping we'll get those next year & try a nice pond that is stocked with them.... I bought this little kit at Walmart for $80.00 while at Pagscon It has pretty much everything you need. I was worried with the current that the line would tangle into the brush. As I got the lure by the brush with a little wiggle, a huge largemouth slammed the bait. Very true....trouble is that if you use a treble hook, you have three times the chances of hooking the structure rather than the fish. You need a steel leader though or they will chew your line in a second with those nasty teeth BTW... alway's use a pair of needlenose pliers to take the hook out. They can be very nasty Pickerel are the same....We used to use steel leaders but now we switched to braided. I use the Stren Braided 30 lb test.
