Sgt Pepper 50th Anniversary

:bump: Yesterday was the anniversary of the actual release of the album. Been listening again and reliving so many memories.

Heard a couple of radio shows dedicated to the new release. In a CBC show, the cover design is discussed with one of the creators and debunking some of the silly rumours about hidden meanings. http://www.cbc.ca/radio/q

Terri Gross had Giles Martin on her show today to talk about how he did the remix. I loved how they played snippets from the "older" version and the remix. I had headphones on and could really hear some new things. Tomorrow she will have interviews (older ones I believe) with Paul and Ringo.http://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/

As for the inspirations to the songs, Rolling Stone has some stories online. I do remember that John got the idea for The Benefit of Mr. Kite from an old playbill or flyer for a Victorian circus. He pretty much took all the lyrics verbatim from it. :ebert:

I heard the World Cafe/Giles Martin show. That was wonderful.

Bought the 2-CD new edition over the weekend and have been listening to it off and on since then. SO cool. :)

Memories...hmmm...

the first time I heard Sgt Pepper in its entirety was December 9, 1980.

My tenth birthday.

I'm tempted to just leave that there and let it sink in for a moment....

That said.. it blew me away. Especially A Day In The Life, which at the time both spooked and intrigued me.

If I had to pick an all time favorite song of the ROCK era/genre, that'd be the one.

My sister was big into The Beatles when I was a kid but I don't remember her having this album. I think I bought it much later though I'd heard most of the songs on the radio.

I heard the fresh air interview a few days ago. I was hoping for more information but at this point there are very few primary sources left I guess. The CBC one should be better. I'll try that.
