  1. Project Object cancelled...bummer! No explanation other than they need to reschedule probably for the fall....
  2. Saw him a few years back...he's freaking crazy!! Chicago/Earth, Wind, & Fire coming up next week!!
  3. It was "the sound" at the time...and they were trying to stay with it.... Tough to say what Terry would have done going forward...but I think it was time for them to go away from him for a bit... I'm just surprised that he didn't slip back into the "mix" (bad pun) after a while... Terry did a LOT of great stuff, but moving forward, there were a few years where their "sound" was just a little odd...but it was the times....
  4. Got (decent) Zac Brown tickets for Hershey towards the end of July...probably the only country artist I can stand! (guys more alternative/hard rock than country, though) This will be number three seeing him! Check out his new album...tune called Junkyard pulls some Pink Floyd out in the middle of it...I almost wrecked my car the first time I heard it! So that's Chicago April 6th, Dream Theater April 22nd, Project Object April 30th, and Zac Brown July 23rd. Not a bad list so far!
  5. Last summer I saw (what's left of) Yes, and Alan White is playing pretty pathetic these days! Not the guy that played in the 80's and 90's, and even some of the early 2000's! I don't disagree with Neil's attitude. quit while you're on top, and still able to function properly.... As I said to a friend a few weeks ago at a party... It has to end sometime, the fact that they did a great tour was a plus..they COULD have just said "that's it, thanks...here's a live compilation, enjoy" and not toured... I was disappointed there wasn't the "usual" second leg, but.... Neil must have been hurting pretty badly by the end of the R40 tour. Personally I would have hated to have seen him struggle and not be able to give his 100%. Definitely! Sad to watch it go away, but better than seeing struggle... Hell my dad's old big band guys were struggling 30 years after they were big...these guys did 41! Take it for what it's worth!!! It could have ended for good in 1996!
  6. My recording prof in the 90's loved his PCM set up! But that was a HUGE set up to sneak into shows...probably the guys with the wheelchairs! Technically the digital lineage stuff isn't horrible if you do it right...but doing it right is the problem!
  7. There's another version of that same show called "Stainless Steel" which is SLIGHTLY better. (might be an earlier generation of the same tape) They did play a part of it during the 1977 tour, but not the whole thing.... The Fountain of Lamneth is still the "holy grail"!

  9. You may be thinking about when they were using the old video tapes as recording media prior to DAT tapes. That PCM F-1 format was similar to DAT, but you had to use the old Betamax tapes IIRC...
  10. Listen to the volume swells in By-tor (Of the Battle), let us know if you think you hear a second guitar ghosting in the background. :) I think ATWAS was just the best take of the three nights... I think there was something printed years back stating that the best take in 2112 was when Neil's snares fell off his drum, but the take was SO GOOD that they kept it... E...SL was purportedly also a punch in convention for wrong notes on good takes.
  11. Yeah, I knew I heard something like that somewhere...
  12. Radio stations used a lot of compression in those days...not entirely sure what they do today, I'm sure the frequency range is still compressed, since CD's are a little more BROAD.
  13. Zebra was an excellent show! I saw them in Spokane, WA, circa 1985-6. That was 99,9% why I went to that show....Loverboy and Quiet Riot weren't thrilling me when they announced it, (but as I said they weren't a bad live act....) I had a cousin that lived on Long Island who went to school with one of the Zebra guys, and saw them a LOT around her neck of the woods... she used to play stuff for me when she visited, and I was totally aware of them when Who's Behind the Door hit the national scene! Her favorite tape was one where they did mostly Zeppelin and Rush stuff one night in a bar out there.
  14. Yeah....getting to see Woody was a special thing! But I can only imagine getting to see the Another One for Woody show was great! The Allman and Dead stuff is a great thing also!!
  15. I think most of that album was a montage of different nights....I just wish they'd hit "record" and let the chips fall where the may warts and all! IIRC, La Villa was from three different performances...I seem to remember reading that somewhere years back.
  16. Yeah, you have to miss those triple dates.... Got to see Gary Moore (with Ian Paice on drums) open for Krokus and Def Leppard back in the 80's.... Rainbow back up by Scorpions, and Riot... Another one was Zebra opening for Quiet Riot and Loverboy...who was actually decent live...but Zebra was off the charts! I miss the HORDE shows where there were a bunch of different bands playing all day while 90% of the crowd smoked serious amounts of weed! Got to see King Crimson on one of those, and Gov't Mule with Allen Woody on another one.
  17. had a few friends that got to see AC/DC with Bon...realized years later how freaking lucky they were!
  18. We live relatively close proximity-wise, so I'm thinking that many of my highlights are the same as those you've listed (JFK, ABWH, Yes etc.). Here are some more for me. Iron Maiden playing Rime of the Ancient Mariner on the Powerslave tour at the Spectrum Getting to see Clapton with Roger Waters in 84 at the Spectrum My first concert - Phil Collins at Stabler Arena in 83 10th row for Van Halen on the 1984 tour (you guessed it...at the Spectrum) 4th row for the Scorpions in '85 I believe. My first Rush show ever on the Presto tour Taking two of my kids (ages 16 and 21) to the R40 show in Philly. This one tops them all. Where are ya? I'm in Hershey.... I got to see Maiden on their tour with Priest (City Island in Harrisburg) Number of the Beast Tour! Pretty crazy! Only got to see the Floyd show at JFK...had to bag others because of another commitment I had in those daze (marched in a few drum and bugle corps, so anything on a weekend was out) A Yes show there was a wanna see, but.... I saw a bunch of shows at the Spectrum, and Vet Stadium...Rush 84 & 88...Yes in 1991 on the Union tour Genesis and Floyd at Vet's Billy Jpel and Elton John at Vet's Then when they opened the First Union Center.... Saw Buffett at Citizen's Bank park a few times. Recently I got to see Anderson-Ponty at the Keswick (talk about a hole!)..and I have tickets to Dream Theatre at the Tower...never been there yet!
  19. As far as country...I've only seen Zac Brown live, he puts on a great show! My FIRST concert ever though was the Carpenters way back in like 76-77... I also got to see the first Chicago tour after Terry Kath passed away...that was a great show! The 'sad' ones are seeing Harry Chapin on one of his last shows before he died, (I think it was his last acoustic show with his brother, he had a few with his band after that night) and a Dave Matthews show that was LeRoi Moore's second to last show before he got into the accident, and subsequently passed away from the injuries. The Who on the tour that John Entwistle died was another one... No one thought they were going to do it, but they did... (guess they needed the money)
  20. I had one of those moments on the 84 tour... I was grooving along to something and locked eyes with Geddy, who was doing the same thing, and we both laughed at each other!
  21. Not sure if this has been discussed (or even if I did it prior to this) But I was listening to Roger Water's Amused to Death, today after dropping my wife off at work, and when they played the Perfect Sense section (I & II) I had a moment, and remembered when I saw the 1999 tour live and they did the AtD section of the show, and it was AMAZING! (and the fact that PP Arnold was there to sing it was even better!) But this spurred a thought...What AMAZING concert memories do you have? (I get it...Rush..but it's a Rush forum) But what parts of what shows are ones that whenever you hear a certain song you go right back to it? So obviously the one I just mentioned, and Gilmour's Floyd in 1987 at JFK Stadium when they opened with Echoes (and there were spotlights making a Pyramid over the stadium) was amazing. The whole Wall show when I saw Roger's tour in 2010 was an amazing moment, too! Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, & Howe playing Close to the Edge to start the second half of the show in 89 Emerson, Lake & Powell playing Pirates in 1986 Yes in 1991 at the Spectrum when they did Awaken! Seeing Toto finally was just a cool experience this past summer..always wanted to see them... AS far as Rush... When they did La VIlla when I saw them in Baltimore in 86 2112 the whole way through in 96 The entire return show in 2002 in Scranton (had 5th row center, too) And Jacob's Ladder and Xanadu this past tour (and other stuff...but those two stand out)
  22. Depends.... I refuse to go see a Rush tribute band...recordings I've heard of them just don't make the mark..... And a friend that just caught one when he was on a business trip (forget which one) said it was a waste of time...yeah...good night out with a few friends, and some beers...but they tried too hard, and it wasn't good. (don't know which one, so don't ask) I've seen a few Pink Floyd bands, and they're "ok", but still not the real thing... about the only tribute band I've ever seen that was WORTH it was the Genesis one, The Musical Box! I saw them on their "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" recreation, and I thought it was amazing... one caveat...they had the original picture show that Genesis used, and they actually recreated the entire production..so to me it was like seeing a Broadway style show... and they pulled it off... So I'm pretty much against them...if you're that talented...then write your own stuff.... The
  23. Got Dream Theater tickets for the Tower Theater on April 22nd, and a Project/Object ticket for the 30th at the River Street Jazz Cafe up in Wilkes Barre... seems like all of my concerts are in April... Hoping that Hershey gets something decent this year...they've been lacking in good shows at the stadium over the past few summers.
  24. Show recordings are starting to show up on Dime....Quick listen of some of the Amsterdam show is pretty decent sounding....
  25. Reading back through some of these it's hilarious seeing who hates whom.... But also seeing my comments on Lady GaGa... saw a few older things last week that were posted under Stephanie Germanotta (or something like that) which is what her "real" name is, and it DID have her playing piano. I will admit that she is a serious talent! But I honestly would take her more seriously if she just dropped the "stage name"....
