  1. As repetitive as it is, The Parchment is amazing, I'll give them that. I feel a vibe similar to "To Tame a Land", from Piece of Mind.
  2. This is essentially the same song as Lost in a Lost World:
  3. I'm 100% ok with people enjoying the album, and I keep trying and listening, but for me, it's just not there. And I won't try to convince anyone about my opinion, but I believe the enjoyment or not of this album has to do with how long you've been a fan of the band. I got into them when Powerslave came out, and I've seen them evolve, take risks, fail and recover. Now, to my ears, they seem to be on safe mode, not willing to take chances, and drawing too much from the past. A lot of the songs here would require some editing and tweaking, but they are fixed on the idea that everyone needs to be respected in the band, and they're afraid of stepping on each other's toes. Making a five star album takes effort, disappointment, arguing, the ability to take criticism and to sometimes relinquish your ideas in favor of the song. Maiden does not seem willing to do that, and it sounds to me like everyone who presents an idea gets her way. Kevin Shirley is not there to criticize, as opposed to the role he played in Counterparts or in Dream Theater's Falling Into Infinity for example. He's there to press record and capture whatever it is those six guys want him to. He's been a "producer" of this band for twenty years - how did he not pick up that these passages are exactly the same? 03min08s: 02min56s: 05min21s: With that said, the band's PR sent me a physical copy of the album, and if/when there's a chance to interview one of them, I would gladly take that opportunity. I won't be able to express my opinion the way I'm doing here though...let's see if they have a slot for me.
  4. It was cool, he played with the Rheostatics, whose singer is the editor of the newspaper they were gathering funds for. Other staples of the Canadian rock scene were also there. Aaaaaaaand... It's going to happen again on October 02nd, and this time Rik Emmet will also play! I juts got two tickets and will bring my wife with me this time.
  5. Compare these three timestamps on the links below: 02:36 here: 03:34 here: And 05:06 in the new song Darkest Hour. Tell me this is not the exact same guitar solo.
  6. I respect them for continuing on, and I understand that the pace of the songs is now different, slower...age plays a role here. But the whole album sounded tired to me. No wonder people have been saying that it reminds them of The X Factor - the dark tone and slow plodding nature of the songs are similar to the stuff they did on the Blaze era.
  7. But they could do what they do with a little bit more energy, couldn't they?
  8. I was going to review the new album, but due to personal circumstances - I had to fly back home for a family matter - my buddy John Kokel took over from me. Here's his take on Senjutsu: https://www.sonicperspectives.com/album-reviews/iron-maiden-senjutsu/

  10. It's all Kevin Shirley's fault. As producer he should tell Steve Harris that certain things need to get trimmed down. But he obviously never says anything. He probably does and gets ignored.
  11. That's maybe not a good thing? All the other songs are mid tempo. My third listen didn't help.
  12. Interesting. You strike me as one of their most loyal fans on the board. If you're not impressed, it's hard to see that I would be. I'll guess I'll find out. I love them. But this album is way too "middle of the road Maiden" for me. Bruce and Nicko are playing safe, and man, the long intros take forever!!!!
  13. Could it be a grower? I really didn't like TBOS for YEARS There are some good moments, but nothing they haven't done before, in a more remarkable and punchier way.
  14. I got the album, and listened to it today. Honestly, I'm VERY underwhelmed.
  15. Here's a review of the new album: https://bravewords.com/reviews/iron-maiden-senjutsu "There are moments of true, Maiden greatness and also frustration where editing needs to happen. "
  16. What album did they release in the seventies? I thought the debut was 1980? Yes. 1980 is a year in the 70's.

  18. Here's a sample of what's coming: https://www.instagram.com/p/CSWsSc1Ic-_/?utm_medium=share_sheet The Alien single is coming on Friday.
  19. Maiden and Rush could do a mash up of Tim Sawyer and Weekend Warrior, called "Exit the Weekend Warrior".
