  1. My roommate is a huge fan of this band and gave me Departure Songs to listen to. I just played it for the first time last night and it sounded really amazing. I kind of had it on as background music as I was writing an essay, but I was really impressed. I'll check out more of their stuff for sure.
  2. Steven Wilson recorded The Day Before You Came on his Cover Versions series. Here it is, if you haven't heard it before. I didn't know he ever played it live...I'll have to look into those bootlegs!
  3. Ommadawn and Tubular Bells are great!
  4. Clockwork Angels Counterparts Vapor Trails Snakes and Arrows Test For Echo
  5. Great album! I've always wondered what a follow up album with Moraz would sound like, as his playing is incredible on Relayer. Granted, we wouldn't have gotten Going For The One, my second favorite Yes album, but it's still interesting to think about.
  6. I'm not really into buying these remixes, but I may pick this one up for the bonus material as Nonsuch has become one of my favorite albums over the last several months. I may also pick up Close to the Edge too, even though the bonus tracks don't look too interesting. But I guess it'll be worth it if sounds as good as people say it is.
  7. Nice to see another fan of The Gathering here! I'm only familiar with the Anneke van Giersbergen material, but those are some of my all-time favorite albums. I did listen to Disclosure once though and really liked it, so I guess I should check out the new one.
  8. IMO you should start with Into The Electric Castle. A real prog masterpiece. Thanks, I'll keep that one in mind.
  9. I've never listened to Ayreon before, but maybe I'll start with this album. Honestly, I've been kind of put off by all of the special guests/multiple vocalists thing because it seems kind of gimmicky to me.
  10. I doubt Minnemann will be busy with LMR for a year, as that's a side project that probably won't tour much if they even decide to play live. If he isn't able to commit to SW's band, it'll probably be because he'd be touring with someone like Joe Satriani or playing with The Aristocrats. While I'd like MM to stay with the Steven Wilson band, I'd be happy with either Wackerman or Harrison.
  11. According to a post on another forum, Gavin said at a recent clinic that he talks to SW regularly and PT is not over. So I take back my comment from earlier today...I guess it's pretty likely that we'll eventually see more from the band.
  12. Never really listened to his music, but I liked what little I've heard and I appreciate his influence. Rest in peace.
  13. Now that King Crimson has reformed with Gavin Harrison and there are plans for a fourth SW solo album, I wouldn't be surprised if we never see another PT album. I didn't listen to the new song, but if the descriptions are accurate then I'm perfectly okay with more SW solo releases.
  14. Still got to get this album. I liked The Octopus but I thought it was a bit too long. The debut is great though and is very consistent.
  15. Nick Drake is one of my favorite artists to listen to before going to sleep. I've recently discovered Talk Talk's Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden, along with Mark Hollis' solo album. All three of those albums make great bedtime music.
  16. Based on the threads that I post in on this forum, you'd think I only listen to prog. Aye! :guitar: You're probably a secret Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus fan underneath the prog king exterior with giant foam finger at the ready! Shit, my secret's out.
  17. Based on the threads that I post in on this forum, you'd think I only listen to prog.
  18. I'm in New England, but I'm in college and I don't have a car. So NYC on a Sunday night is practically impossible for me, unless my schedule's free on Mondays next semester. If it was a Saturday night show, I'd be able to go home to CT for the weekend and take the train into the city. And it does suck how bands like Spock's Beard mostly only tour in Europe. Seems like prog bands are much more popular in Europe than they are in the US, but still, there's a lot of great bands that play and tour here.
  19. I'm only familiar with a few of their albums (Phaedra, Rubycon, Zeit) but they're great. I've been wanting to get into more of their stuff, but their discography is huge and it's been kind of daunting. I'll probably work my way through all of their 70s stuff, and then move on to the soundtracks.
  20. Agreed, though I could do without the horns in No Reply at All.
  21. I'm not too familiar with And Then There Were Three. I have it and I've listened to it, but I don't really remember much about it. Been meaning to play it actually, but haven't gotten around to it, for whatever reason. I really enjoy the majority of the Collins era (except for Invisible Touch, which I don't have). There's a lot of great material, even on the weaker albums like We Can't Dance (Fading Lights being the most notable). I don't even bother trying to compare the Gabriel-era with the Collins-era. The early stuff was great for complex and symphonic prog, and the later period was great for well-written pop music.
  22. Looking forward to the new album. The cover is great! I don't think I'll be able to see them on the tour though, as the NYC show is on a Sunday. But I'm sure there will be a DVD of this, as there's at always least one live release from every Morse/Portnoy tour.
  23. I've always liked Duke but never really bothered playing it. I listened to it last week, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It's now up there with Genesis's best for me. Can't believe I've practically ignored it for so long; it's a great blend of their old prog sound and the pop direction they were moving towards.
  24. The Birthday Party is great, but I agree - it wouldn't have really fit on the album.
  25. Doomsday Afternoon is great! Was just listening to it the other day.
