Geddy discusses Robert Plant in Classic Rock magazine
RushFanForever replied to RushFanForever's topic in Rush
What Classic Rock is doing is publishing Geddy's tribute as a multiple piece story. Here's the rest. Rush’s Geddy Lee recalls watching Led Zeppelin alongside Alex Lifeson in 1969: ‘We wanted to be them instantly’ So 75% of Geddy's tribute is now published by Classic Rock on their website. -
I hope at some point they will be done with. I don't think there's anything really interesting to buy for a 40th anniversary package after the Terry Brown period. For the box sets that have already been released, some fans gripe about things that aren't satisfactory to them. It's as if the assumption or expectation that the band has a tonne of archival stuff when they don't. These completist type individual's just don't get it. Also it seems ridiculous if there's going to be anniversary packages for all the band's albums. I rarely see any musician influenced by RUSH discuss anything from the early 80's and beyond that influenced them in their musical beginnings. There's tribute bands of course that play all of RUSH's material. However for historical significance, the Terry Brown period is what RUSH will be remembered most for.

Just for the record, here's all the dates that Geddy and Alex saw Led Zeppelin and Page & Plant live. Alex was probably with Geddy at the 1971 concert as well. Led Zeppelin August 18, 1969 - The Rock Pile, Toronto September 4, 1971 - Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto Page & Plant July 4, 1998 - Molson Amphitheatre, Toronto with set list here. As a bonus, John Rutsey attended the following Led Zeppelin concert, where Ben Mink was the guitarist in the house band Mary-Lou Horner, who were also the opening act. February 2, 1969 - The Rock Pile, Toronto -

I should add that Plant probably could relate to losing a loved one as he lost his young son to a stomach illness in the late 70's. -

From Classic Rock magazine via Louder posted today. Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant helped save Rush in their darkest hour, says Geddy Lee One omitted mention is that Geddy met Robert in Morocco, which is referenced from this November 2008 interview below with George Stroumboulopoulos. Beginning at the 7:24 mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xRpYxkLWqY This led to the Page & Plant concert noted here. The full issue of Classic Rock # 289 (excerpt here) will be released on May 25th.

Neil mentioned in his book Traveling Music: The Soundtrack to My Life and Times, that another favorite Hip album he liked listening to in the car was (1998). A side note - The album features a song called 'Vapour Trails', which is spelled the Canadian way. -
The Tragically Hip are releasing a new EP titled Saskadelphia, which is available tomorrow. Check it out below. Mike Rutherford reminds me of the late Walter Becker from Steely Dan. They're each known for playing both bass and guitar, but bass is their primary instrument. The difference between the two is that Mike plays both bass and guitar live with Genesis. However Walter only played guitar live in Steely Dan from 2000 and onward, whereas back in the day he played bass live.

From the latest issue of Bass Player magazine with Mike Rutherford of Genesis and Mike and the Mechanics here. Did Rutherford keep an eye on what his competitors were doing? “I never really knew much about Rush, for example,” he says. “I really don’t know much of their material, and I should investigate some of it sometime. I was very aware of Yes, though: I always thought Chris Squire was an amazing bass player.
