A trend I've noticed is that you post random questions once in a blue moon about subjects pertaining to the R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour video. Hopefully you can be more active and contribute something to the forum.

Alex featured on the cover of Guitar Player Magazine (Nov 2021)
RushFanForever replied to Jag2112's topic in Rush
"I have a violin that I'm screwing around with." I wonder if Ben Mink is possibly giving Alex violin lessons via Zoom. Ben mentioned in his recent CBC My Playlist interview that he gave Stompin' Tom Connors lessons in the late 80's. Stompin' Tom was trying to learn the Hank Snow song 'I'm Moving On' on violin. -
I used to know of an individual who works in corporate management. He claims to have been a live sound engineer in the late 80's to mid 90's for some big music acts. Then he reinvented himself at age 30 and took business courses and now works in the corporate world.

What Is Really Considered Classic Soft Rock
RushFanForever replied to RushFanForever's topic in Music Of The Spheres
I'm going to throw in two Canadian classic soft rock artists which don't get mentioned a lot. Ian Thomas and Marc Jordan. -
I always think of the 1986 Amnesty International concert where The Police handed their instruments to U2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RWbh9KKkdI Bono joins The Police on the last song 'Invisible Sun'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6HI7KOr4-Y

What Is Really Considered Classic Soft Rock
RushFanForever replied to RushFanForever's topic in Music Of The Spheres
I should add that The Doobie Brothers had a blues-rock phase and then a R&B soul-pop phase. The soul-pop phase is what the 'soft rock' is based on. 'The Doctor' was the band's late 80's comeback song where the band has returned to the blues-rock phase but with more clean production. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx62FxXe-Rg -
Geddy Lee Honoured at Artists for Peace and Justice's Annual Gala

Geddy is wearing his Counterparts era glasses. -
Today I saw four of these compilations albums (noted here) on what's considered 'classic soft rock'. As I'm browsing the track selection on each of them, the majority of songs don't fit into the above mentioned category. How is 'Heat of the Moment' by Asia, 'More Than A Feeling' by Boston, and 'The Doctor' by The Doobie Brothers considered 'classic soft rock'? This made me think of Entre_Perpetuo's poll threads on what songs are really considered 'power ballads'.

Thanks! Interesting to see. I wonder why the Aston Martin didn't sell? He doesn't say if it didn't meet the reserve price or if something else happened?? We don't know. Gooding & Co doesn't release that information. So unless one were watching live they wouldn't know. I tried looking for a live broadcast I couldn't find one. According to Melody Maker, bids did not meet reserve.https://melodymakerm...or-3-9-million/ The Aston Martin did eventually sell according to here.

Those two things (Big Book of Bass short and the Permanent Waves Deluxe ad) are more or less past promotional items anyway. The Big Book of Bass short is below. http://vimeo.com/347098867 -

I'm going to use two Canadian examples here with Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Rush in relation to this topic. Both bands were signed to Mercury Records, but each achieved success in a different way. Members of both bands get mentioned in these article pieces and a 2002 video interview below. Creem - March 1976 RUSH Pebbles & Bam-Bam In Alphaville Lethbridge Herald - October 1976 Rush draws on reading material Sharp Magazine - December 2012 How Three Nerds From Ontario Created A Musical Empire, And Why 2012 Was Their Greatest Year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hocv8EB_vk It's kind of hilarious that Randy Bachman has praised Geddy, Alex, and Neil as individual musicians, but not the music per se. Alex is featured in Bachman's documentary as noted here. Perhaps critics will give praise to music that's easily accessible, but other music isn't given that praise.

Bands who best known song is a cover
RushFanForever replied to tangy's topic in Music Of The Spheres
Keith Hampshire (born in London England and then emigrated to Canada) is known for his cover of 'First Cut Is The Deepest' by Cat Stevens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feJtp3dNsJ4 The song was Hampshire's biggest hit in Canada, which rose to #1. -
Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies) working with Geddy on a "Secret Project"
RushFanForever replied to blueschica's topic in Rush
BNL utilizes Geddy's Taurus pedals on their latest album and now they want to utilize Geddy. It's a similar thing to when Alex used to borrow Geddy's amp and then he borrowed Geddy and the rest is Rush history. -
Why would anyone pick that song as a power ballad? Whoever chose this song needs to have their ears cleaned out and their brain recalibrated.

I'm glad there's CanCon (Canadian content) songs on there that I can choose to vote for. Although I wish 'Beautiful Goodbye' by Amanda Marshall made the list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyyOtpY0iNY

Bands who best known song is a cover
RushFanForever replied to tangy's topic in Music Of The Spheres
I wasn't aware that John Fogerty's single 'Jambalaya (On the Bayou)' from the early 70's is a Hank Williams song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HZiN0OsUAg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B5BR0xrXaU -
I discovered and started listening to the Rush - Complete Rockline Broadcasts 1984-2008, which is posted here. From listening to the first Rockline episode, baseball player Warren Cromartie is mentioned. Cromartie and the Montreal Expos are thanked in the Signals album's liner notes. Then later on Geddy made a vocal appearance on Cromartie's AOR band Climb (formed with David Rosenthal of Rainbow) on the song 'Who's Missing Who'. It turns out Cromartie is an accomplished drummer as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA4UMn2sjtw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oPzPipPJDI Then later on, baseball player Randy Johnson is also a Rush fan and later becomes friends with the band. He was the official R40 Live 40th Anniversary Tour photographer (noted here) and also plays drums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4WEanRsUZc What is it about baseball players who play drums as their chosen instrument? What's the connection?
