  1. They weren't feellin it. End of story. For me, Presto is a FAR better choice anyway - the song has much personal meaning to me and sounded fantastic. Jacobs Ladder is cool, but meandering in spots. I thought the reaction to JL not being played was an embarressing low point for Rush fans on these messagebloards. After all the years of endless, constant, agonizing hystrionics about "The Camera Eye" - the band finally decides to play it (and Presto for the first time ever) - only to have grown men and women act like their dogs had been murdered because Alex "tricked" everyone with mention of Jacobs Ladder.
  2. 1) Cater to the imaginations of fanbois who whine endlessly about how much the band sucks now - but cant seem to break up with them. 2) Porn
  3. Some of you guys are wearing your hero worship on your sleeves, or just digging for stuff to complain about to pass time, - because this notion that Geddy's voice is so far gone that it's a glaring problem and they need to retire is patently absurd and entirely untrue. Freewill, Presto, Marathon, The Camera Eye, Witch Hunt, Working Man, Subdivisions, Caravan, BU2B, Workin Them Angels - they all sounded fantastic on this tour. And he sounded SUPERB on the Snakes tour. If his voice cracks here and there, who gives a shit? Seriously - He can still deliver on a nightly basis while playing his ass off. Every show I attended for the TM tour, the sentiment was "Damn, they still rock, and holy shit - Geddy sounds great, did you hear Freewill??" His voice is especially strong on the newer material - this whole "enunciation" thing that has carried over from the other board is a prime example of what dorks us Rush fans are LOL - the man used to shreik like a parrot with a bottle rocket up his ass - now we're bitching that we cant understand him??? Oh Lordy...
  4. QUOTE (jnoble @ Oct 1 2011, 10:52 AM) I liked what I saw visually and the setlist, but I have to be brutally honest...anyone who can't admit that Ged's voice is pretty much shot now is fooling themselves. He strains and cracks through pretty much every song on the setlist now, even material like Presto that's not what anyone would consider a "high tough to sing" tune. Sure, there's some shows where he sounds better than others, but overall it's obvious his age has caught up to him. Presto is actualy quite a challenging song to sing - (it's also over 20 years old) He's singing it better now then he probably would have during the Presto tour. Christ, even on the RTB tour, he bypassed the "cell of awareness" part in favor of an awkward transition into Distant Early Warning becuase he couldn't nail it back then. The fact that he is singing at the level he is today is pretty remarkable - and to say that his voice is "shot" is pretty rediculous.
  5. QUOTE (reani14 @ Sep 25 2011, 09:28 AM) his vocals will be bad no doubt. If they are anything like i heard on youtube. its gonna be painful.. I'm happy to report how wrong you are. This is a classic case of Geddy at 58 being compared to Geddy at 28. He doesn't sing in the crisp, high pitched nasal sqeak of his younger years - and I'm perfectly fine with that. He sings from his stomach now - and his pitch and tone are far better for it (he used to go out of tune on an almost regualr basis when he was just singing through his nose) I've read complaints about his vocal performance on the S&A DVD and just can't wrap my head around it - that was one of his best ever tours vocally. On the Time Machine tour, particxularly the first leg, there is no question that his voice was tired in spots and cracked here and there - but embarressingly so? No way - he's got the strongest voice of any of his contemporaries and this particular recording finds him on a very good night. If they cleaned it up a bit then more power to em. If I flubbed a note here or there I would want it smoothed out for a DVD... Poor Ged - his voice will forever be damned, no matter what he does
  6. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Sep 24 2011, 06:06 PM) At the risk of making yet another controversial post, my thoughts on the subject aren't "Oh cool, a new Rush DVD on a channel where it will get a lot of airplay and maybe introduce some people to Rush," but, "God, I hope Geddy's vocals aren't as embarrassingly bad as on the last live DVD or two." His vocals were definately off on R30 - but I thought he sounded fantastic on S&A live. Sounds great here too - they definately caught a good night for him vocally.
  7. This forum is like a collective ass kiss compared to some of the others out there.
  8. Don't want it - dont buy it.
  9. QUOTE (tapermike @ Apr 15 2011, 08:25 PM) I HAVE THIS ODD DESIRE TO CORNER NEIL IN A FINE HOTEL AND FORCE HIM TO MEET ME. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK WOULD HAPPEN? How would you feel if some wack-job cornered you in a hotel and forced you to "MEET" him?
  10. Section 213 are decent seats - no need for binocs like skeet said they have great hi def screens going throughout. Bring beer money and a great mood Chicago and Rush are always a great mix - they love the city and we love them - always a lively crowd and a good time - you picked a great place to see your first Rush concert!! Post a review afterwards
  11. Yeah sorry to hear that hope you guys can make it to a a show
  12. His voice sounds splendind on the youtube vids from last nights show.
  13. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Mar 28 2011, 09:41 PM) QUOTE (jmac @ Mar 28 2011, 08:37 AM) If you think Geddy's voice is failing, check out this video of Freewill at the Minnesota state fair at 4:13. Great as it ever was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRcV955WiTA Were you being sarcastic in using this video as an example of great vocals? I mean, there are some decent moments, but some of it was bad, and some of it was really bad. How is any of that bad???? There is an expectation of Geddy to sound like he did durin g the moving pictures tour - and anything other then that is crap. He has a few shakey moments just like any artist - but nothing to the degree that you are suggessting. The last few DVDs find him in terrific voice and perfectly representing their catalogue save for the 70s stuff - and who expects hium to sound like that anyway. The Snakes and Arrows DVD is an amazing vocal performance. The bottom line is - the level of perfection some fans expect from him as a vocalist only goes to show what high regard and expectations Rush fans have for the band. I applaud the Band for even attempting to meet them in 2011
  14. On a bad night, Ged still gives a competent performance On a good night, he still sounds amazing - better then he had in the late eighties earlie nineties that's for sure. Think back to the HYF tour. Can you even imagin him going for it in Freewill, or playing Working Man? 57 or not, the guy still rocks the vocs
  15. This was the last show of the tour on a cold night. A few vocal huccups can be easily forgiven considering the overall consistancy of his performances. He has a great live voice. He actually used to mess up alot more, particularly from the HYF - CP period. His vocals actally sound better today.
  16. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Sep 2 2010, 01:11 AM) QUOTE (eshine @ Sep 2 2010, 01:54 AM) Rusah woul rather see Rushgirl up-front then any of you assholes Thanks for the constructive and mature posts! You're shedding a new light on this topic, and we're grateful for your insight. I see you're a big fan of Rusah Woul too. A very underrated band, IMO. Lyrically they're a little too fixated on Objectivism, and they tend to get a little too jam-bandy in their extended instrumental passages, but they're filling the void left by departed bands like Iran Maden and Dreem Tweeter. What did you think of their new song, "The Spirit of Pirated mp3s"? Oh, hahhhhhaaaa - dude, you are hilarious. The way you just riffed on my typo - that's hysterical !!! Haaa, seriously - good one - I was owned. Dreem Tweeter!!! Iran Maden!!!! The spirit of Pirated MP3s!!!!!! Hahhhha - holy cow, did you come up with that yourself?? Seriously did someone help you with that?? You are HI-LARIOUS!!! Typo riffs are always so funny - but man, Iran Maden - HAHA HA - you have taken it to a whole new level! whooo, lemme catch my breath. God that was funny. You are right, though - my posts should be more constructive and mature. And I do apologize for the typo - your Mom was blowing me at the time. She needs to ease up on the teeth.
  17. QUOTE (daveyt @ Sep 1 2010, 10:06 PM) some people love rush to the point where they must be seen and acknowledged by the band to satisfy their "connection." As if 7000 posts on a messageborad isn't "satisfy ing your connection." Give me a f***ing break. You are no less of a total fanboi then anyone. ASnd the fact is, Rushgirl DOES have a connection with the band. Don't be so jealous.
  18. QUOTE (drgrendel @ Sep 2 2010, 09:05 AM) I will not engage in "person" bashing, but I will make my position known on a few statements I found to be offensive: 1. I work hard for the money to purchase my seats as well. 2. Seats do not come stamped with a .5 designation. 3. Just because one does not voice a complaint, it does not necessarily mean they are happy with invasion. Some food for thought: 1. While luck may be on their side now, eventually such behavior will be meant with some resistance. I am hoping it will not result in painful consequences. 2. If this were to take place next to, in front of, or behind me, I can assure the person's stay at the venue will be short-lived. Dude, you sound like a raging asshole and you probably have a baby dick.
  19. QUOTE (drgrendel @ Aug 16 2010, 04:20 PM) A quick elbow to the correct knee-buckling spot and I think they will get the message. Don't try to be civil and deal with them because it will not work. One shot to the right spot puts 'em on the ground and you just shrug and act all innocent like when security comes by. Worked both times I used this method. Would LOVE to see you try this on me you pansie - I would kick the living SHIT out of you, and if your wife was there I'd bitch-slap her for good measure.
  20. Rusah woul rather see Rushgirl up-front then any of you assholes
  21. Oh for Ged sakes I haven't seen this amount of histrionics since the Housewives of New Jersey reunion. Please, one of you - tell me how Rushgirl's trip to the front row has impacted your life negatively in any way???? Just one.... Anyone? Anyone? "ohhh, it's the principaaaaaal" In the words of the great William Shatner - GET A LIFE, PEOPLE!
  22. QUOTE (vital signz @ Sep 1 2010, 08:15 AM)Well I'll be damned.................. She did it again. I am gonna name names. RUSHGIRL from Toronto. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. You snuck up front row again in Columbus and you weaseled out another front row experience without paying the exorbitant money paid by another person. I think you ought to be truly ashamed of yourself. You did it in Vegas and you did it in Columbus. I don't know why some people feel the need to be so immature. Those around you just shake their heads in disbelief. Rude, disrespectful and immature as holy hell. Jesus. I wonder how many other venues you did this at and how many other folks you took advantage of??????? What a whiney bitch. Everyone loves Rushgirl and NO-ONE gives two shits if she nudges up to the front (twice - oh the world) What kind of a pussy cares about this sort of thing? Rush fans are indeed a rare breed - most of them are cool but man, some of them are just absolute ankle biting pansies. Grow a set. And Rock on, Rushgirl we LOVE YOU
