  1. You are just kidding right? One can never say NEVER in life, "anything can happen" but I say, NEVER.... besides the current eight-piece ensemble and the idea of one day Ben Mink comes on stage to assist with "Losing It," I can't imagine any scenario where Rush isn't simply Rush... The day Geddy can no longer voally perform, Rush is done...same goes for Neil's drumming...
  2. Not to be picky, cause I will take it whenever, but is it still a 40th anniversary tour if it starts in 2015? wouldn't it be cool if the opening night was august 14, 2014, forty years after neil's debut.... of course, the civic arena in pittsburgh (the igloo) is gone....
  3. Hey losingit2k, you know what? i don't hate it.... in fact, if I had the chance to hear songs off FBN and CoS, whether with words or without, I would have to sign up for that.... but somehow, I don't see them playing so many songs off the first four studio albums....but on the other hand, they haven't played this stuff in forever and without the vocals, this would be their chance.... If there was an R40 tour, I personally would have to have The Trees in there somewhere and wouldn't mind Natural Science either.... I really miss the lack of Trees or Xanadu or Natural Science or La Villa on the current tour and many other "classics." I love Power WIndows as much as anyone, and Middletown Dreams is right up there with my favorite all time rush songs, but I thought the first set on the current tour is just too heavy with PoW songs... Overall, losingit2k, I say well done....call Ray and book this tour.....
  4. No problem, I am planning on hitting the last three shows of the tour in Salt Lake City, Denver and KC, and yes the Twins play the Royals in KC the day after the final show of the tour... As far as the KC heat, at least the Rush show is indoors....
  5. I will let you know Cindy! I might be traveling solo as Wendy might have to stay behind for our girls soccer stuff! I'm going to book the Ritz and see two Rockies games with or without her! Earl Just asking, what rockies game would you be going to, the Rockies, accordiing to their web page schedule are @ATL, @PIT and @NYM during the days before the Denver RUSH show and after, the rockies are on the road out of town when Rush is at the pepsi center.... Its my first ever trip to denver and I was hoping for a Rockies home game to go to so really wondering what Rockies game you are referring to...
  6. I know this means nothing..... I know its up to Geddy, Alex & Neil.... I know Geddy really sounds like the vocal issues are really making touring a pain.... but.... I just want to retell my story of speaking with Ray Danniels at the taping of the Time Machine DVD in Cleveland... I was telling him my thoughts of rush's future plans and said they really should a R40 tour in 2014.... His response, "Have you been reading my notes." I said it was a no brainer and every big time rush fan would come out to hear the classics and epics....He agreed with a wink and a smile and said he just had to convince the guys... So, ultimately it will be rush's decision, and who knows, maybe Geddy's voice is at such a point where the decision not to has already been made.... but, thinking in a hopeful vain.....if they played 20-25 shows fall of 2014, came back and did 20-25 shows spring of 2015, just north america....that would be the tour and then they would probably be off the road for two years while they work on the next album.... that's my hope, i will remain hopeful, until it doesn't happen....
  7. If you listened to Geddy on today's WSJ live interview, he made several references to how hard doing a live show is on his voice and the health of his vocal cords.....he said he is forced to not talk on off days and spends those days resting in bed.... he said he needs an extended rest after this tour.... while an R40 tour could start in the fall of 2014, not sure that even a year off the road would be enough for him. I say an R40 tour seems remote but I remain hopeful....
  8. first, the lady on the escalator is sooo funny...how foolish is this woman..... i was one of those so hoping for southern california clockwork angels dates, or vegas, or phoenix or albuquerque, but not happening it appears... I blame snaked....its all his fault...
  9. I never judge anyone who buys VIP because it serves a purpose for some people(including you snaked).... BUT....i hate the idea of VIP, i hate the idea of platinum seats or all other tickets that aren't just regular tickets.... To spend a lot of money and not know until close to showtime exactly where your seats are, to me, is criminal....there is a huge difference between third row center and 15th row.... in 2002, i was using dial-up internet and getting great seats for many shows...nowadays, very rarely do i even bother with the presales, once in a blue moon i try, and occassionally something decent comes up to buy...
  10. Damn my friend! Three times in November wasn't enough for me! The last two times Wendy and I travelled to Red Rocks for Rush the Rockies were out of town. Well I just checked and Rush is at the Pepsi Center on August 2. The Rockies play three at home against the Dodgers! I'm going to book it! I love going to a baseball game in some other state while traveling for Rush! My best was going to Toronto for an R30 gig and seeing a Blue Jays Red Sox game the night after! Do the Avalanche play at the Pepsi Center? Denver? according to the schedule i am looking at on mlb.com, rockies are in pittsburgh the weekend rush is in denver
  11. I know, its a wierd situation.... someone gets a meet and greet pass and then they sell it for loads of money.... hard to judge someone if they need the money really badly, but it still seems strange, although i have been saying in another thread that i am going to sell the shirt that was thrown my way by alex...but i think there is a big difference.... the shirt is a shirt, thrown out by random at a concert.... winning a contest is random, or knowing someone who knows someone who knows someone i suppose is sorta random but you are selling off an experience to meet people.... selling the shirt feels like if you won a car by a local raffle and then put it up for sale, that happens all the time, the car has value, you want the cash, you sell it... i suppose the meet and greet has a value, but i have to agree, it just feels awkward to sell that or to buy it...
  12. Good Post!! I don't know about trying to meet them in a lobby or something, though, but that's ligit if you want to. It's a public place and as long as you're polite, why not? It's not something I'd do... But, the rest of this post is bang on. The main thing for me, is if you have to pay $2500 just to meet someone - ANYONE - that would be really weird. I didn't even know that one had to pay for a "meet and greet." I just assumed it was contest winners who were in on that deal. That ruins it for me right there. I LOVE Rush, and after 27 shows since 1976, they always have been, they are now and always will be, by far, my favourite band - but holy EFFING EFF - if I need to "pay money" to meet them... they can forget it. The whole thing seems very artifical and fake to me. But, I wouldn't be surprised if Geddy and Alex don't even know how much people are paying to meet them. And, i wouldn't be surprised if they don't even see ANY of the money either. It's likely part of the promoters's deal. Just a guess. For eight seasons I hosted a television show that was seen all across Canada and the USA, parts of Europe. I made MANY "meet and greet" type appearances all through Canada and the US. Obviously, there is a big difference between the TV show I did and being a super famous rock iron. But, even still, I would have felt like a real dickhead if I knew that people had to pay even one single dollar to meet me and have a picture taken, autograph, or whatever the case may be. I was only too happy that people wanted to meet me in the first place... As has been said by many famous entertainers before, "Without the fans, we'd have nothing." If all you'd get is a simple "standard-issue" 30 seconds and a "Hi, I love your music," you might want to reconsider the whole thing. There is a decent chance that you will be disappointed afterward, for various reasons. Go to the Orbit Room... buy Big Al a beer... i think you misunderstood.... people don't pay rush to meet them..... people who get a meet and greet put them up for sale on the secondary market... you do win them from radio contests or if you know someone on the crew or know someone who knows someone..... Meet and Greets are totally free....there is no money for them....but its like getting one of the shirts thrown into the crowd...someone catches a shirt, it could go on ebay.... I got my meet and greet because a guy i met who i was doing a ticket exchange with just asked me "would you like a meet & greet, I am friends with guys who are friends with a merchandise guy and he has a stack of them." I was like, "you bet I would like one." boom, that was it, it was pure luck and a generous gesture by a fellow rush fan paying it forward.....if i ever got a meet and greet again and knew someone who hadn't done it, i'd feel compelled to let another do it....my one time was enough (although don't get me wrong, if anyone wants to give me another, i would be glad to it again)
  13. okay, this is just my opinion, so take it for its worth....(according to snaked, not much) if you are willing to spend over $2000 to meet rush in a meet and greet.....don't bother and use the money to fund going to as many shows as you can.... here's why... a rush show is special in itself, enough said...their careers are winding down and you don't know how many more tours there will be...if at all....so see them now while you can.... the meet and greet lasts 30 seconds, i know its special, i did it....i got the chance to shake their hands, say hi, have a picture taken, see my avatar....i showed alex and geddy my custom done jersey and alex said he saw it the night before at the previous show....it was cool that he acknowledged it...so i am probably biased since i did it...it was a dream come true at the time....i met them.... but on the down side, it was 30 seconds, i have the memory and picture, but i also know that they meet hundreds and hundreds of fans every tour and its great that they do that...i mean that so sincerely, its great....but will they ever remember me, no....and that's okay....i am not trying to be friends with them, they happen to be my musical heros and i love them in concert so i go to as many concerts as i can, and am going to more now, thinking the end of the run is gonna be sooner than later.... all i am trying to say is wouldn't you rather run into alex at the orbit room or some other place and just shoot the shit for a few minutes, i have never had the pleasure but from what i hear, he will engage you with normal conversation if you are normal...especially when they are not on tour and you just happen to be in the same room....i know its a little easier said than done, you don't want to stalk them....(i.e. read neil's books) but another idea that is free....find out what hotel they are staying at, find out their schedules, figure it out, its info that's obtainable if you apply yourself....then see them in the lobby of the hotel, have them sign something, take a quick picture, whatever, if you and a friend are the only fans there, you might actually get more time than at a meet and greet if you do it right.... again, there is a fine line between eager fan and complete stalker....you can't scare them off with your over enthusiasm.... on a side note, my wife feels about the country band Sawyer Brown the way I feel about rush....they were popular in the 90s but now play smaller venues like county fairs, small casinos, they are a touring band and have some die hard fans, but they all tour in one bus, there is one sound guy, no guitar techs, its just a country band, there is no full scale touring.....they just play shows.... well, my wife is in the fan club, we get meet and greets for every show we ever see them, they are just regular guys, some married, some not, we became friendly with the guitar player, even went to his church for a sunday morning service where he plays in the church band....but again, totally different situation and country music is completely different than rock....many country shows i have gone to with my wife, if its not jason aldean at a major arena, or carrie underwood, the artist will stay after the show and if you are willing to wait on line, you can wait and have a picture taken, get an autograph, say hello.... its very similar with nascar drivers, you have to wait on long lines, but if you are willing to do it, you can meet your favorite driver....not all sports or music are like that.... and finally, if you really want to spend $2500 for 30 seconds and its legit, well, its your money, but i wouldn't want to pay for it...i personally would feel that if i had to shell out money for it, it would feel artificial....as said, go find them in a lobby somewhere....its possible, i am sure people on this board have stories of meeting them in various places...
  14. I feel like you do....if Praetorian (mosbach) handed me sticks, i would keep them forever.... for some reason, and i have one in my drawer, the shirt means nothing to me....i can't explain why, it just does.... I have been lucky enough to have a guitar pick thrown to me by Alex....i never thought of selling that....never... but the shirt doesn't fit, and to me, its a shirt, not as personal as a pick alex used and tossed into the crowd, or neil sticks grabbed from the stage by mosbach and brought to you at a concert.... a shirt that was sitting with 30 other shirts that came from a box of hundreds of shirts carried around from city to city that was put in a basket and touched by one of the guys for two seconds and thrown into the crowd....just doesn't do it for me....but hey, everyone is entitled to think of it as they wish... and...it doesn't fit....if it did, i would probably be proud to wear it at future shows...
  15. something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.... dodge hemi muscle cars from the 70s sell at auction these days for hundreds of thousands of dollars, more than used ferraris....I'd rather have the ferrari any day, but others beg to differ.... the shirts are rare and can only be had at a show, thrown by the band, so calculate the number of shows on the tour times the number of shirts they throw per show.....they are rare, and if no one wanted them, they would be worth....nothing....but obviously, fans want them....
  16. Well, first off, I am not a big fan of kids at rush shows, I am 45 and I guess times have changed, but I wasn't allowed to go to rock concerts as a kid, or perhaps it was because I had parents who liked Opera and Classical music....but to each his own.... Yes, its just a piece of cotton fabric, that is aparently worth like $200 or more on ebay.... and as I had mentioned earlier, on a previous tour, I actually caught a shirt and gave it to a stranger next to me because he seemed so upset that he didn't catch it.... but I have to say, its a real interesting topic, about a piece of cotton fabric....
  17. As much of a rush freak as I am, just because Alex touched a t-shirt for a few seconds and threw it into the crowd still doesn't really do it for me....my shirt is sitting in a drawer unworn, unwashed and until I sell it, it will remain there.... now, if you were going to frame it or do something really interesting with it, i could maybe see that, and I suppose if it fit you, which it doesn't for me, those in the know, would see you wearing it at future concerts, or someone who is a true rush fan might comment on it as you were walking in public somewhere.... I wouldn't want to frame it. Rush shirts should be worn, and proudly. And not that I do this for this reason, but every time I wear I wear a Rush shirt in public (last did so a few days ago on my birthday) I get someone commenting on it, which is a nice moment of shared enthusiasm. If I were lucky enough to get a rare shirt (and from the concert, and not from e-bay!) I would be wearing it proudly until it disintegrated. And the honour of getting such a shirt isn't because 'one of the Rush guys touched it!' but because of its significance as a rarity and as a token of an evening that will remembered for years. And it's kind of the situation of the thrill of winning something. ETA: And I'm not trying to say what you should or should not with your shirt... that's completely up to you! :) I get what you are saying.....if it fit, it would be different, although the alex shirt is a little scary.... my story of getting the shirt is kinda funny.... i was on alex's side stage in manchester opening night, really close to the stage, but side stage....the shirt comes into my area....the guy next to me (who i don't know) catches it....the show ends and I asked if he could show me the shirt because I was really interested as to what was on it.... he took one look at the wierd face on the front, and says, "you want it." I said absolutely, not even thinking that the shirt might have any monetary value.... of course, it doesn't fit, my wife (a non rush fan) thinks its very wierd, and if it can help pay for a ticket or two to the upcoming spring/summer tour, well, then, so be it.... I am not really a collector, I stopped years ago trying to get my hands on all things rush..... and btw, i can't tell you how many shirts the past couple of tours have flown either right past me, or i got a finger on one or it hit my hand..... a few tours back when they first started throwing the shirts out, i actually caught one and the guy next to me (again, didn't know him) was so upset that i snagged it out of the air, that i just gave it to him to be nice.....so i suppose what goes around comes around....
  19. I disagree, I'm as diehard as they come, got a shirt from alex opening night in manchester, I think I am going to put it on ebay to help pay for future shows, its just sitting in a drawer, doesn't fit, doesn't mean squat to me and if some other rush fan values a t-shirt, well, why not?
  20. keep in mind its not a hockey arena, its just a large empty square room with grandstands brought in to surround the floor seats. the side stage you are used to in a hockey arena are not the same in that the floor in AC is much wider, like a football stadium and there are only 30 rows of floor so if you sit on the grandstands directly across from the stage, you are elevated off the floor people but not as far away as a hockey arena..... overall, its not a bad venue, you can easily find free parking in the casinos, but it is an unusual set up, its neither a hockey barn or outdoor shed....just an oversized type ballroom set up for a concert....holds under 5,000 people...
  21. I agree they won't come back to cleveland, but i thought maybe a chance for blossom outside show.....keep in mind the cleveland show probably had no walk up, Hurricane Sandy was hitting and despite the fact that it crushed new york and new jersey, it was a horrible night of wind and rain in cleveland....i walked a bunch of blocks from my hotel to the show....it was challenging to say the least....
  22. They must not like playing "fly by night" - its only four years old at the time of this show and they didn't play it....or "In the end" It's crazy to me that three years later, they are in the Signals era, their clothes and hair are totally different, they've gone through moving pictures and its popularity, the whole space shuttle thing... I find it so strange that so much could change from 79-82, everything changed.... but since 2002 and rush's return, essentially they look and sound the same...they certainly look older now and ged's voice is getting near the end, and oh yeah, Al got his hair worked on....
  23. Make this the setlist for R40 and call it a day, okay, add a few newer songs, then call it a day....
  24. Regarding Trump show in AC.....there are tickets that will be available on ticketsmaster for around $75.....the presale tickets that were over 150 and 278 or whatever were floor and it is a casino so they can do whatever they want.... as far as the venue, keep in mind its not a hockey arena, its just a large empty square room with grandstands brought in to surround the floor seats. the side stage you are used to in a hockey arena are not the same in that the floor in AC is much wider, like a football stadium and there are only 30 rows of floor so if you sit on the grandstands directly across from the stage, you are elevated off the floor people but not as far away as a hockey arena..... overall, its not a bad venue, you can easily find free parking in the casinos, but it is an unusual set up, its neither a hockey barn or outdoor shed....just an oversized type ballroom set up for a concert....holds under 5,000 people...
  25. I doubt they will add shows in places like Allentown or Holmdel when the email didn't mention any cities in the southwest at all.... I counted 24 US cities mentioned, add in the 10 Euro shows, that's 34, they did 35 in the fall....I am thinking they add another 6 or so to the 2013 tour and my guess is those would have to be places like LA, SF bay area, Vegas, AZ, NM, etc.....If you look at a map, the only citiies mentioned anywhere out west were Calgary, Vancouver, Portland, Salt Lake, Denver, Austin, Kansas City, that's only seven shows west of the Mississippi... Since they mentioned Saratoga, Jones Beach and Hershey for later dates in the summer, I would think that would probably eliminate Holmdel, Allentown, Scranton, Radio City as rumored....
