The band hasn't been reliant on ticket sales for decades. They get a guarantee from the promoter. I believe Madison Square Garden was a sellout too. And several other venues. Numbers are not just up yet. If you think about it, how many bands/artists (besides country shit) can sell out venues like that year-in-year out... everywhere around the US? Of course U2, AC/DC, DMB, Springsteen, Stones, Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac and the other old farts... but besides them? Not so many. New bands and teen idols come and go... only these old guys are guaranteed draws. 2010 Rush ranked nicely among the top grossing acts (per gig) http://archive.is/FDCj

Oops sorry.... I accidentally just recopied the Philly numbers. Fixed.

Positively the last Van Halen Thread. Or is it ?
Detonator replied to toscanobarga's topic in Music Of The Spheres
One of the best rock bands ever. Too bad all the members are total fuckwads. I'm surprised if this tour doesn't end prematurely. -
I guess it's just ticket sales.

Camel must be the most underrated band ever. Right up there with Floyd, Genesis, Rush and Yes. Prog rock gods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhWDbdS-vjg

Very underrated song. Great bass playing here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL68VE-Qi7Y

It's like a night and day. Eddie might be the best rock guitarist ever but I've never heard anything interesting coming out of his cakehole. Reading his interviews is about as inspiring as reading a phone book. Neil is an intelligent, interesting man who has a lot of wise words to say about many things in life.

Red Tide = one of the truly underrated Rush songs. It's jazzy, metallish and the drums are superb. Pure genius. I don't understand how people haven't found this gem.

Damn... I tried to search but couldn't find that thread. Perhaps these threads could be merged by a moderator?

Eddie's only friend is Alex. Not the best one, but the only one. He's a great guitar player, maybe the greatest. But not very intelligent human being, obviously. His interviews are boring and stupid these days. I read the last one where he said that "he hasn't listened to any music in years". Not defending Sammy... he's a cokehead no doubt... but I sympathize him a lot. VH would be much better with Sammy and Michael now... DLR is a joke who has lost his voice completely (he didn't have much to begin with)....and in his current form he has a stage charisma of a beached whale... at least Sammy can still sing.

I like S&A too. But I always have a feeling "What if..." when I listen to it. It has potential but the end result is not that great. Working them Angels and Armor & Sword are pretty good. But there are too few good melodies and too few "nyances" in S&A. A lot of oppressive, disturbing "hard songs"... like Spindrift... don't like it. But what difference it was when Rush introduced strings/synths back in CA. That large Rush sound, that huge "sound wall", emotion and melodies in songs like The Garden and The Wreckers, etc. Huge difference. HUGE.

Am I the only one from Europe that is sad and depressed?
Detonator replied to YYZumbi's topic in R40 Tour Forum
I've seen them four times in Europe. R30, Snakes & Arrows tour, TIme Machine and finally Clockwork Angels tour, which is difficult to top anyway. Yeah... bummed but what can you do. Look at the bright side.... at least I've seen the best rock band ever live four times. I'm in my 30's so I guess I'm a bit fortunate. My son will probably envy my Rush concert experiences the same way I envied my dad's Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin gigs. -
Avery Molek, the 7-year old kid,.plays YYZ here: It's not perfect but pretty good. Avery's comment: "This is a crazy hard song to play, Neils drumming is so amazing! Rush is now one of my favorite bands!"
-
Indeed it is. But the topic was "gooad and bad" Rush covers. I just HAD to share. The comments in Youtube are priceless. :D

Here's Nelly Furtado's infamous Time Stand Still. [media[ [/media]

Talking about beautiful Yes songs... the should play this at Squire's funeral [media}

I tried to search and I didn't find one single topic for Rush cover versions. So it's about time to open one. I'll start. Here's a 7-year old kid, Avery Molek, drumming Tom Sawyer. Love it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR_x_vrSZBM

RIP this big, amazingly talented man with big heart. One of the best bass players in rock'n'roll history. Dave Bassquez wrote at Yes' FB page: "Sick to my stomach. I ordered a signed copy of the "fish out of water" CD and when it was held up due to a postal strike in the UK he personally called me on my cell phone to apologize. That's the man Chris Squire was."

Test for Echo and RTB.

The Analog Kid Marathon Turn the Page come to mind. The last one is ridiculously underrated Rush song btw.
-
None. Rush have very few bad songs and none of their "most famous" songs are bad. But for people who like to listen to a lot of bootlegs, some songs are just overplayed, like Closer to the Heart and Tom Sawyer. Both are still amazing songs, I just don't listen to them anymore.

Talbot was playing phenomenal for the Rangers last night. They have a "positive goalie problem" I guess. Rangers will get the Prez throphy for sure. They're flying.

How come Rush's FB page has lost so many likes in just one week or two? It had 2.983.000 likes (I was waiting for it to reach 3 Million) and now it has gone down to 2.872.000 and is going down all the time. What's going on? https://www.facebook...?ref=ts&fref=ts
