  1. Neil's lyrics suck. Rush sucks.
  2. I think you could make a solid argument that Rush is the best band ever, based on: 1. Their musicianship, and especially their influence on other musicians. 2. Total gold/platinum albums sold (number three behind behind the Beatles and Stones, right?). 3. Their unique style, espcially in their classic period (say, 2112 to Signals). 4. Their integerity and stability over the years, compared to the drama of most other bands. Other bands may have Rush beat in some of these individual categories, but Rush's unique combination of strengths is pretty impressive.
  3. Maybe next time Rush should do like Iron Maiden did last year, and ONLY play songs from their past three or four albums. Can you imagine the unholy armageddon of complaining we'd have if they only played songs from TFE or later? Actually, I'm guessing that next time they'll play a large portion of Clockwork Angels (maybe even the entire album) and I'm sure that will be bad enough for some folks.
  4. QUOTE (cajun boy @ Feb 4 2011, 04:29 PM)This forum contains TOUR SPOILERS! If you're trying to avoid setlists and other show details, enter at your own risk. True, but 1001's "PINNED: SPOILERS - How to post them" also mentions thread titles. Folks can see your thread title from the TRF main page. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Apr 21 2010, 08:12 PM)But the most important thing is thread titles. Even if someone chooses to stay out of this forum, topic titles can be seen from the main page, so having "They played (whatever song)!" as a title is a bad idea. No song titles in topic titles! And that goes for other show details like video clips, what household appliances Geddy is using, etc. No show details in topic titles.
  5. QUOTE (cajun boy @ Feb 4 2011, 04:10 PM) QUOTE (Kenneth @ Feb 4 2011, 02:25 PM) If they were to change LTTA to Cinderella Man or AFTK, the set list would be amazing. LTTA, if i am correct, was up for a Grammy for BEST ROCK INSTRAMENTAL a couple years ago...are you NUTS !!! LTTA was one of the standouts for me last year. In Vegas, Geddy played the bass solo/jam at the end like a man posessed! And despite the naysayers, Faithless sounded HUGE live and was another standout for me. Stick It Out About was probably the only song I was hoping they would swap. Other than this, no complaints.
  6. QUOTE (1-0-0-1-0-0-1 @ Feb 3 2011, 03:15 PM)This non-change only affects those who saw a show last year. It seems the goal of this second leg is to visit cities they didn't visit last year, or had not visited in a while (or at all). So, lots of people who missed it last year will get to see the same show everyone else saw. They skipped Arizona in 2010 for the first time since I've been a fan (GUP), so I'm psyched to see them in my hometown again. Yes, I did travel last year to see two shows last year (WA and LV), so it would have been cool to see them maybe swap out a couple of songs in 2011. Still, I have no hesitiation about attending again.
  7. QUOTE (D3strukt @ Dec 25 2010, 06:04 AM)No, Eddie IS over-rated. Like Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Paige. The only thing Eddie ever did that was worthwile, was Eruption. Even that was blegh. http://www.prepresspilgrim.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/picard-facepalm.jpg
  8. QUOTE (Lamelight @ Jan 1 2011, 12:11 PM) QUOTE (Scars @ Jan 1 2011, 07:54 AM) QUOTE (Good @ bad, andrush,Dec 25 2010, 02:08 PM) That keyboard solo sounds incredibly outdated though; it sounds like something that would be playing in an educational 80's video about science. By that standard, "Tom Sawyer" should be next Yes it definitely should. Over 30 songs gone already. Where's Tom Sawyer? Yeah, I don't get it either. The Countdown solo was played on either a Moog or Oberheim, if I remember correctly. Both are classic analog synths that are still highly regarded by synth players. You might as well say that a Les Paul through a Marshall amp sounds outdated.
  9. QUOTE (Good, bad, andrush @ Dec 31 2010, 02:00 PM) No, I didn't intend for them to be failing grades. I really only meant to rank them by Rush standards. I didn't think I was being too negative sorry Okay, that's good to know. I guess starting at the "bottom" and working to the "top" creates an overall (IMO) negative tone in the thread.
  10. Jeez, are these reviews ever going to turn from negative to positive? In my opinion, your order rankings are not bad but your reviews and song scores are very harsh. Everything you've mentioned so far gets a below failing grade, less than 40%? Countdown, Finding My Way, Red Lenses, Lakeside Park, etc. are all F- songs?
  11. QUOTE (Lamelight @ Dec 18 2010, 12:57 PM)QUOTE (PariahDog @ Dec 18 2010, 01:25 AM) Open Water or High Secrets? which one did you actually meant? Both? Whoops, I meant High Water. I love Open Secrets. High Secrets actually sounds like a cool Rush song. It could be about the Illuminati, Knights Templar, etc.
  12. QUOTE (ReflectedLight @ Dec 8 2010, 02:13 PM) i had no intentions of putting my money down on a ticket but it seems i will be forced to go since they will be buying the tickets. With an attitude like that, why are you even bothering to go? Oh well, I guess you could always take one long bathroom break and skip the whole show.
  13. QUOTE (Hemispheres89 @ Nov 30 2010, 04:11 PM)However, although you get a reserved ticket 15 rows from the stage, I woul think twice about it. I've been to concerts where I was on the floor and it totally hindered my enjoyment of the show when everyone stood up. Just something to think about. I always prefer to be as close as possible, and I've gotten really good seats through the VIP packages. I got my second-best Rush seat EVER through the VIP sale for the Vegas TM show, about ninth row center. And yes they're pricey, but I think you still do better than buying from a scaplper. For me it was definitely worth it.
  14. Very sad news. I have been reading Making of the Empire Strikes Back (pricey but highly recommended), and Kershner's contribution to Empire just can't be overstated. There is an INCREDIBLE transcript in the book of the filming of the carbon-freezing scene, recorded when Kershner was wearing a wireless mic that day on set. You get all the details of the difficulty they went through to film that scene, including a spat between Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. You can really see Kershner's brilliance at dealing with the actors' egos and improving some of the key moments and dialogue. I just wish that Kershner had chosen to direct Jedi. He could have certainly improved the script (another reason he turned down Jedi), and would have likely kept the dark tone of Empire rather than getting too cute.
  15. QUOTE (Roger Goldsmith @ Nov 26 2010, 05:19 AM) piss off you fat tw**,,, we are being ripped off,,, fact Wow, I would expect this on Counterparts but not on this forum.
  16. QUOTE (Jean Simmons @ Nov 24 2010, 04:52 AM)Damn you Ru$h and Ray Danniel$, Damn You to Hell and Back. For me personally I am down from SIx tickets last tour (plus one for significant other, and one for child) to one, maybe two this time around. Go Figure. Wow... If you feel that strongly about it, you shouldn't even buy one ticket. Seriously, you shouldn't support Rush if you feel it's such a ripoff.
