  1. Raging Bull, Robert De Niro. Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but it's definitely a black and white classic.
  2. John Ford's adaptation of Steinbecks classic "The Grapes Of Wrath" Henry Ford excellent as the main chracter Tom Joad. Whole cast superb.
  3. Theres way to many, but heres a few more I always liked A tree grows in Brooklyn The Longest Day Two zany and unexpected slap stick very funny, The Fuller Brush Man - Red Skelton Bringing Up Baby-Katharine Hepburn,Cary Grant
  4. QUOTE (YYZ Working Man @ Dec 19 2006, 01:15 AM) bells of saint mary or miricle on 34th st for xmas spirit It's a Wonderful Life A Christmas Carol(1951? Alastair Sim as Scrooge) Still one of the best versions. George C Scott played a terrific Scrooge also.
  5. There has been certain events on television which had worth and left a profound mark on your memory Roots was one, I remember it was the only time my entire family gathered in front of the tv set in complete silence absorbing this perspective(portrayal) of American history that we were never exposed to before. Funny I also remember our phone never rang during the whole time each episode was aired( unusal to say the least since I had two teenage sisters at the time and the phone was always tied up with them all hours of the night) I have a feeling this was the same for all households across the country because everyone was watching it. ... Many years later Ken Burns The Civil War would have the same effect.
  6. I collect all those Bass Rankin Jr specials SC is comin to town one of the best, The year without a Santa Claus(Mickey Rooney) is a good one also. Always liked The LittleDrummer Boy but that faded from rotation on t.v. Another obscure one that didn't catch on in popularity I have is Nestor The Long eared Christmas donkey,Narrator Roger Miller(King of the road) with Brenda Vaccaro. And Rudolph with Holly Jolly Christmas Burl Ives is still the best of the lot.
  7. Seen his last movie on dvd a week before his demise. Prairie Home Companion based on Garrison Keillor's radio show with the same name, Many stars of course a Altman trademark but just didn't translate well on the big screen. I love the radio show and wished he would of tackled a movie based on Lake Wobegon one of Keillors continuous stories on PHC about this fictional town narrates that he grew up in and the somewhat eccentric chracters who live there. A Minnesota Mayberry.
  8. I want to see this also, the review i read gave it only 2 stars.
  9. QUOTE (GhostGirl @ Nov 28 2006, 09:54 AM) You can read/hear it here: Behind Vince Guaraldi's Timeless Holiday Soundtrack All though CBS favored the animation in a positive light after hearing this it's obvious every thing else was a issue!!! It was indeed ground braking, watch it every Christmas eve along with the Christmas story. Nope don't get tired of it.
  10. It's funny reading about the making of this classic Bill Melendez the animator who brought the Peanuts characters to life when seeing the finshed (final) version said " We thought we killed it. It had so many warts and bumps and lumps and things" Charles Schulz in a interview I remember seeing said they were nervous presenting it to the network. And he pointed out one scene in particular that even though he liked it didn't no how CBS execs would react, the last scene were Charlie puts on a Christmas bulb on his lone branch tree then it droops to the ground and say's I've killed it! Then the kids appear in front of it and magically the tree becomes full and grows branches. He thought even for a cartoon that might be considered to far fetched. CBS loved it and the rest is history. They only had six months to come up with a idea and storyline to get it together and this made the animation seem rushed. But these flaws( if you can call them that,) to me make it even more so a enduring Christmas tradition.
  11. QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Nov 29 2006, 08:26 AM) QUOTE (circumstantial tree @ Nov 29 2006, 08:17 AM) CORRECTION: I said in an earlier post that the song that played while Linus and Charlie are looking for a tree was my favorite. Okay, I got confused! The song I was referring to is actually played when they are catching snowflakes on their tongues at the beginning. I have a feeling it's "Skating". Vince gradually plays high notes that go down to lower notes on the piano. Your description of the song DOES sound like "Skating," but "Skating" was used while Snoopy is... well, skating. I think it was also used in this way for the full-length movie "A Boy Named Charlie Brown"; when Linus, Snoopy, and Charlie Brown go to NYC for Chuck's spelling bee, Snoopy skates in Rockefeller Center. Several songs from Vince Guaraldi 1963 soundtrack "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" (Linus and Lucy) appeared on the 1965 Christmas special. I still have original "A Charlie Brown Christmas" 1965 hardcover book given to me by ol Saint Nick when I was around the Peanut kids age!
  12. QUOTE (Drumnut @ Nov 24 2006, 12:57 AM) 'Kramer' Apologizes, Hires Crisis Expert QUOTE LOS ANGELES (AP) - First he went on national television to apologize for his racial tirade against two black hecklers. Now Michael Richards is taking his contriteness to the next level: he's hired a public relations expert with deep contacts in the black community. New York publicist Howard Rubenstein took on Richards as a client Wednesday after being contacted by the actor-comedian. He then arranged for Richards to call the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. apnews.myway.com I'm shocked by this, Why didn't he contact Jackie first!!!http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b216/spirit3trails/JackieChiles.jpg Disgraceful!!!
  13. If your sensitive about race issues you wouldn't want to see this lady,http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b216/spirit3trails/Lista_Lampanelli.jpg Lisa Lampanelli takes no prisioners and insults EVERYBODY!! Shes on these roast frequently and usually is the most funny!
  14. QUOTE (lerxt1990 @ Nov 23 2006, 12:10 AM) Jeffrey Ross can be funny at those roasts. What else does Jeffrey Ross do beside these roast?
  15. Just thought of a couple of other one's which were cool to me.(probably not others ) Both encounters involved former Crusader goalies. The NHL had a series of neutral ice regular season games in 1994,Cleveland had four at the old Richfield Coliseum Me and my buddy went to all of them. The first one we went to was the Hartford Whalers vs St.Louis Blues(kinda sucked Hartford played twice here in neutral site series) Well as usual had my old Crusader jersey on when going back to our seats we passed the Whalers broadcast booth when we heard someone yell out HEY! we looked and there was Hall of Famer and former Bruins and Crusader great Gerry Cheevers pointing at my jersey! We both ran over to the booth and tried to talk to him but he was on the air, Ran back to the souvenir stand purchased a Bruins puck went back to broadcast booth tried to get his autograph, but this women in booth with headphones on told us no. Gerry was all the time watching us gave a signal for commercial waved the women back and told us to come over signed puck and jersey talked to us a few minutes about his days with the Crusaders and shook our hands before he went back on air. I met Gerry's backup for Crusaders Bob Whidden at a local UHL game here in Canton (Ohio Gears lasted one year) He would've talked the whole game with me but his wife told him it was time to go! another nice guy.
  16. As a kid me and father would go to the annual HOF game here in Canton. One year after the game we were heading back to our car we just reached the main gate leaving fawcett stadium, when we heard policemen yell at the crowd to move back. I turned around in time to see the infamous long stogie attached to that old curmudgeon Howard Cosell who proceeded to shove me out of his way along with others who got in his path heading for his limo. Seen many NFL greats up close but never made contact with them.... (Like with Howard)
  17. QUOTE (Necromancer @ Nov 21 2006, 06:57 PM) A lot of people say things when they're mad. Not trying to excuse him at all... but he was pissed and probably rightfully so. I would have taken a different route with the names I called them Do we all remember how everyone condemned the Dixie Chicks not too long ago? Now nobody cares. So really... is Kramer gonna be crucified for this? Seriously... in the grand scheme...??? Necro good observations, I think Richards was a idiot to make his outlandish racist remarks. But I do believe he had a right to be pissed at a few people trying to steal the spotlight and interrupt his act. But like you said he could have said a thousand different things then his foolish tirade of racism. I'll still watch Seinfield a boycott that's silly He made a big mistake but he shouldn't be crucified indefinitely, up to now I've never heard him portrayed as a bigot. So I'm willing to give him a chance and get over it. As for The Dixie Chicks some of these topics on TRF are identical in arguments on the Chicks board , (freedom of speech , boycott) And many are STILL not over it, country radio won't play them it's idiotic! Oh btw as you can guess I'm not one to condemned the Dixie Chicks agree with them yes, but don't want to get into politics always a big fan of there music.
  18. QUOTE (Riv @ Nov 21 2006, 11:18 PM) His Letterman tirade was PATHETIC. Jerry had him on because he was worried about sales of season 7 which came out today. He looked like a bumbling idiot. Freedom of speech or not, it was unprofessional and disgusting. I hope he gets shot. Your avatar might be considered inappropriate and offend certain forum members(dosen't bother me but it's not in the best of taste) Freedom of speech is one thing, but wishing physical harm on someone? Your comment is disgusting.
  19. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Nov 21 2006, 01:22 PM) It seems like focusing on the heckling is a distraction from the important issue here. I say this because heckling goes on continually in the comedy industry (incidentally, i'm not a professional comedian, i just play one on the internet ). There must be people heckling comedy shows hundreds of times a day all over the world. There are NOT however incidents like this that happen all the time, where a comedian publicly goes off on an extended racial tirade. I think this is the issue at hand here, not how bad it is to heckle comedians. No of course not, The issue is not the heckling and I've stated my disgust at Richards clearly. It might be the norm to have a jerk do this from the audience at a comedy club, but I don't think it should be tolerated nothing wrong with booing but I don't want to hear some loud mouth keep going on and on. Distraction that's not needed didn't pay to hear there opinion of the act.
  20. QUOTE (DonnaWanna @ Nov 21 2006, 12:49 PM) Maybe he should go to the hecklers Job and heckle HIM while hes workin, See how he likes it Of course theres a vast difference from what was worse, Kramers racist tirade is horrifying and shameful. And I agree with rushgoober a professional (experienced) comedian must of faced these scenario's many times in there career. And how they react to it shows how good(and in this case how bad) they are in there profession. Now putting that aside coming from a audience perspective I would hate hearing a idiot from the crowd do this, Imagine paying top dollar to see our band RUSH and some drunken A-HOLES sitting behind you bashing them and yelling they suck? A concert hall setting is different I know but it would still be annoying. I also think in a comedy club heckling the act should not be tolerated for it infringes on the rights of others who came to enjoy who's on stage, and not someone in the audience who has a ax to grind. And they should be asked to stop or they will have to leave.
  21. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Nov 21 2006, 02:02 AM) how fast does it take to ruin a career? apparently 3 minutes... I don't think he had much of a career since Seinfield. Does anyone remember Richards on the ABC SNL wannabe "Fridays"? Pre Kramer very funny! Racism is ugly and he was foolish to respond this way (ignorant) but I don't care much for people yelling at a comedian that he sucks and jeering him while other audience members payed to listen to the act on stage not some idiot in the crowd voicing there personal opinions to get attention. Richards was wrong and stupid and will now find it harder to get back in the limelight. But like I said to a lesser degree so where the ones razzing him were wrong.(If that's what happened to set him off , no excuse for this behavior regardless even if that is the case)
  22. QUOTE (Ru5h F@n @ Nov 18 2006, 08:16 PM) I wasn't too surprised seeing as it is the biggest cartoon out there. Why it took so long to make a movie is beyond me. I wondered that also, Like they made that horrible movie on SNL skit The Coneheads light years after it was considered funny or relevant. Still enjoy The Simpsons I'll look forward seeing this... On dvd.
  23. QUOTE (-D-RocK- @ Nov 10 2006, 09:05 PM) I gotta say, I no longer can stand going to see movies at the theatre. Most of what Hollywood is putting out these days is pure crap anyway. I won't spend the $12.50 or whatever it's up to now, to sit my ass down in a cramped movie house, and munch on artery clogging buttered popcorn and drink over-sweetend, over-priced fountain pop while being distracted by ringing cellphones and unruly, spoiled winey children. UGH! Let's see, where was I? No, that's it End of rant. A damn good rant at that! Your right maybe I'll just wait for dvd release.
