  1. Big fan since Thickthreakness and Brothers is very good. Only heard and read some reviews about this new album, which are mixed. I'll still buy it.
  2. Saw them at Ingleston on the Signals tour, but was becoming disillusioned with the keyboard influence at that time. Now I can appreciate the album, but it will never be a favourite.
  3. Saw Motorheed (sic) last night. Absolutely nailed it. Top notch! Opened with Bomber and just flew (no pun intended) from there. Highlights - Bomber, Damage Case, Stay Clean, Going To Brazil and Overkill. I usually go-a-year, miss-a-year, but roll on Nov '12 I'll be there again if they are.
  4. I'd have to go for London Calling, which only contains one average track - Spanish Bombs. Not quite sure why I waited until 2000 before buying the thing when it was released in '79. Physical Graffiti would be a close second. A very close second. As for the White album - complete twaddle! It is self-indulgent clap-trap. I love Dear Pru, but most of the rest is dire. I'll try not to offend anyone by saying Siouxsie's version of Dear Pru is better, but it is!
  5. Keep thinking I need to revisit the Heep. Loved the early stuff with Byron, but wasn't keen on later post-Byron stuff such as Innocent Victim or Fallen Angel so sort of fell away...
  6. It's kind of comforting to know we are all in the dark - as yet. Although the O2 customers for London seem to have a slight advantage. Still no envelope
  7. How many people are reading this, with one eye on the email envelope? This is so frustrating.
  8. Well 4 great gigs in a little over a week. Robert Plant and the Band of Joy at the Sage in Gateshead. Percy was in top form and let the band go. Buddy Miller - what a guitarist! The Zep numbers were so unusual that it a joy (no pun intended). Tangerine, Houses of the Holy, Misty Mountain Hop, Gallows Pole and Rock and Roll. The highlight had to be Monkey though, so f**king haunting. Wishbone Ash at the Academy, Newcastle. Fabulous tunes, but the band lack a front man with a set of pipes. Nils Lofgren back at the Sage. His acoustic set. If someone had said 30 year ago that I would be screaming myself horse having watched 2 guys perform with keyboards and an acoustic guitar, I'd have told them to p**s off! The naivety of youth. Nils started on a harp! I've never seen one played live before. Top stuff. The there is the tap dancing - I kid you not! Finally, it was the Black Keys back at the Academy. Is there a harder working band! If there is at the moment I want to see them. The sound wasn't great early on, but it got better and the whole place was bouncing. We should invoke a ruling that if ALL the band members don't come off stage covered in their own sweat, they have to play on until they are.
  9. This is one thread where age is a definite advantage - AC/DC (with Bon) x3 AC/DC (with Brian) x5 Motorhead (Lemmy, Philthy and Fast Eddie) x3 Motorhead (Lemmy, Phil and Mickey) x2 UFO x4 Rush x6 Robert Plant x3 Nils Lofgren x3 (Last night's show at the Sage in Gateshead was superb) Van Halen x2 (No Hagar) Black Sabbath (RDJ, Tony, Geezer and Bill) MSG x3 Ozzy x3 (Twice with Randy) Wishbone Ash x9 The Black Keys x4 (5th on Saturday coming) The Rolling Stones Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band x2 Manic Street Preachers U2 x2 The Fall The Buzzcocks Teenage Fanclub Joe Strummer & The Mescalaros Scorpions x4 Iron Maiden Judas Priest x3 Def Leppard x3 Aerosmith Bad Co (well Rodgers and Kirke, plus a couple of others) The Answer x4 Jason & The Scorchers Stiff Little Fingers x4 Dropkick Murphys x3 Pat Travers Diamond Head Girlschool Rainbow Flogging Molly Foo Fighters Hanoi Rocks Joe Bonamassa x3 Rancid x2 Steve Earle x2 Slade Whitesnake Trust and I'm sure there are many more, but perhaps this is where age isn't such a great thing - failing memory!
  10. I'm a fan of the Boss. Like the boys he puts a lot of effort into a show and plays for a good couple of hours. Superb songwriter and the simplicity of his music is fine with me. Don't worry about other people's musical opinions. Enjoy what you like and give everything a chance - even Genesis, but you'll be disappointed!
  11. Couldn't agree more than the sentiments expressed by Hatchetaxe&saw. Although Rockford is better than Latest. In act I do believe in one of them boring lists thingys, I voted Rockford album of the year (2006). Marvellous band.
  12. Motorheed (sic) tomorrow night The Answer - 28th November
  13. Apologieds, Whitesnake has already been entered.
  14. The Black Keys Blackfoot Whitesnake
  15. Wishbone Ash - 27/10 Newcastle The Answer - 28/11 Newcastle Might go to see Steve Earle on 1/11, but it is at the Sage in Gateshead, which is a sh*t venue. The audience just sit and watch, no reaction!
  16. I've bought the remastered versions of the first two releases by the Michael Schenker Group, which contains some live tracks, and boy oh boy is Gary Barden a sh*te singer! I remember seeing him live and not really caring, but cat wailing doesn't come close to the straining Gazza does. He literally destroys some classic Mogg/Schenker songs.
  17. Well I hadn't bought any CD's that had been released this year as noyjing really appealed or set the pulse on fire. That was until Monday, when I got "Everday Demons" by The Answer, followed on Tuesday by Joe Bonamassa's "The Ballad of John Henry", and then on Friday Dan Auerbach's "Keep It Hid". Love "Keep It Hid", might just be release of the year!
  18. Friday night and The Black Keys - absolute belter. Slightly worried about them playing a bigger hall (The Academy), and losing something, but the worries were unfounded. So much energy from the two guys, that puts other bands to shame.
  19. It's been a wee while since I posted anything, so I might as well get back into the live thingy. Wishbone Ash - Oct 30th, Newcaslte. The 'Real Deal' tour. Top form, even if Andy Powelll f*cked the ending of a number. Some tunes from way way back. The Hamsters were a canny support band as well, all covers from what I caught. Rancid - 1st Nov, Newcastle. Pure energy! Not the greatest musicians, but hard working, and the bassist is top drawer. Flogging Molly - 2nd Nov, Newcastle. Simply the best. Good banter, strong tunes, and a tight band. Good to see the whole band (except the drummer) lining up along stage front. So damn good I bought a T-shirt. Joe Bonamassa - 10th Nov, Gateshead. Cancelled due to ill health - BUMMER!
  20. Today I've just bought "In Rainbows" - Radiohead and "Moon Is The New Earth" - Rose Hill Drive. On top of that I've ordered Diamond Head's "Living On Borrowed Time" and "Canterbury", together with the remastered copy of "Obessions" by UFO.
  21. Another November date - Flogging Molly 2nd
  22. I forgot about Joe Bonamassa in November at The Slug (Sage) in Gateshead. This is the best venue for sound anywhere, but the crowd is the worst. Tossers in ties!
  23. The Scorpions 12th Oct Rancid 1st Nov Motorheed (sic) 7th Nov John Martyn 12th Nov The Black Keys 14th Nov The Answer (supporting Black Stone Cherry - why?) 6th Dec All gigs in Newcastle, and 'she who must not be annoyed' knows all about these gigs. She isn't complaining about the expense - yet!
  24. QUOTE cloth-eared neanderthal. Absolute classic putdown - Hatchetaxe&saw. I got hooked by Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus, and have started to back track. I was taken by his 'Grinderman' album - top notch!
