  1. I really enjoy the mid to late 90s psychedelic releases. 'The Sky Moves Sideways' and 'Signify' are definitely two of my favorite PT releases. But I do think that PT are as solid now than as they were in the 90s. Maybe even better. Gavin definitely adds a great element to the music. He's just a phenomenal beast on the kit.
  2. ^Yes I agree. And yeah, the vocal harmonies are one of my favorite aspects of the band. Especially on "The Sound of Muzak". They're just amazing on that one.
  3. QUOTE (Steevo @ Dec 2 2009, 01:55 AM) QUOTE (Rush! @ Dec 2 2009, 06:41 PM)I don't know if this would be considered a "guilty pleasure" or not, but I'm really digging Shakira's new single "She Wolf". It's just super catchy, and the whole song just has a kind of quirky, almost disco type of vibe to it. It is, but whatever I saw the little "She-Wolf" perform that on The Late Show. Yeah I saw that performance too. It was great.
  4. PT have been compared to Pink Floyd in the past, and a lot of people mention the similarities to this day. I have to agree, both bands have a kind of psychedelic feel to them, but I know Steven Wilson himself doesn't like the label. Not that he doesn't like Floyd, he just wants to do his own thing and not be slapped with a label by critics and listeners.
  5. QUOTE (rushgoober @ Dec 1 2009, 01:25 PM) Ok, I'm now officially kinda into Radiohead. I have OK Computer which is great, though I haven't listened to more than a handful of times, and now KID A, which is really something special after 3 listens. It seems the next logical step would be Amnesiac? I'm still taking it slow here. Without reading through this whole thread, can I assume that the problem most people have with Radiohead (for those who do have a problem with them) is Thom Yorke's voice? I really like his voice, but I can see how it can easily be perceived as a bit on the whiny and/or high-pitched side. As an example, I wouldn't play them for my wife as I know her tastes well enough to know she will hate his voice. Holy shit Goob, I'm proud of you. Haha, I'm glad you're enjoying Radiohead. While Amnesiac is good and fine, it's kind of like the b-sides of Kid A. Both albums were recorded in the same sessions, so they have a lot of similarities. Most would agree that Kid A is the better record. But I'd go with 'In Rainbows' next, their latest. It's kind of like a combination of the OK Computer sound with the newer, more electronic style present on Kid A and Amnesiac.

  7. I adore Sonic Youth. I really do, nearly all of their albums are great. More people on this board should listen to them.
  8. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Nov 29 2009, 04:19 AM) This Sunday morning has been tickled awake by The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp. I've really wanted to hear that for a long time... How is it?
  9. I dig a few of their songs, but I have tried and tried to get into a couple of their full-lengths, and they just haven't clicked with me, yet. But I want to keep giving them a chance...
  10. QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Nov 21 2009, 03:53 AM) QUOTE (Rush! @ Nov 21 2009, 03:54 AM) QUOTE (Hatchetaxe&saw @ Nov 20 2009, 05:58 PM) All The Pretty Little Horses by Current 93 Thoughts? First impressions? Incredible, very moving, love the spoken word aspect to it, Gothic Love Song etc... Wy wife hates them, which is a very good sign! Wonderful, I figured you'd love it. I think "The Frolic" is one of the most beautiful songs ever, how did you like that one? And "Patripassian" is sweet too, featuring Nick Cave on spoken-word voice !!

  12. Blackest Eyes is such an effective opening track. And it's a completely wonderful song as well.
  13. I could never get into his music either. His songwriting talents cannot be denied though, and I have to say, although I've never been to a concert of his, I can tell that him & his band put on one hell of a show every night. I do enjoy a few songs, but overall I'm not a fan. I don't hate him or anything, he's just kinda in the "eh" category for me..... Yes, I'm from and live in New Jersey, but that does not automatically make me a Springsteen fanatic. I've met plenty of people who live here who intensely dislike Springsteen.
  14. QUOTE (tangy @ Nov 12 2009, 11:35 AM) QUOTE (Rush! @ Nov 12 2009, 11:28 AM) Man, this is some good shit. Thanks Tang. thanks for checking it out! i really think its great and has some of the better programmed drums i have ever heard. they have a new drummer to perform this live and they are now on tour with BTBAM. What a line-up. I can't imagine a real drummer being able to pull off all of the drums on this disc though. check out some of his demonstration videos on youtube when you get the chance. No problem. And yeah, the programmed drums are extremely difficult. Can't believe they're on tour with BTBAM! And will do, in regards to the YouTube videos. Thanks again.
  15. Man, this is some good shit. Thanks Tang.
  16. QUOTE (Wilderness_of_Mirrors @ Nov 7 2009, 09:10 AM) anyone else obsessed with "Way Out Of Here"? this song is absolutely stunning. i love it. I think it's the best song on FoaBP next to the title track and Anesthetize. Making it the 3rd best.
  17. Wisconsin is wonderful. I don't think you'll have much luck w/ finding a copy... I believe they self-release their albums in limited amounts of copies, so I'm not sure... I haven't found any of their releases on Amazon. Maybe eBay would have a couple..... ? Also, I agree with the Sigur Ros & Syd Barrett comparisons. Just had a listen to 'Sung to the North' last night. That's their most "desert-like" album. Reminds me of vast open spaces.
  18. I wish more people knew about Natural Snow Buildings, and how beautiful their soundscapes are. I reckon Fledgey and Hatchet would dig it...
  19. I saw this two weeks ago. Really good. I found it more freaky than scary.
  20. I agree with GrandDesigner in that they've lost a lot of the overall psychedelic vibes they had going in the 90s... But they have began to retain some of it with FoaBP... I am also a big fan of the "psychedelic years". Just adore The Sky Moves Sideways & Signify...
  21. "Lazarus" is amazing. Just a completely beautiful song.
  22. I'll attempt to tune in tonight Goob my man, and hopefully the crappy KSKQ will work this time.
  23. QUOTE (The Owl @ Oct 27 2009, 02:28 PM) The Nostalgia Factory This is fantastic.
  24. QUOTE (tangy @ Oct 17 2009, 12:08 PM) Wow! Carving Canyons is great. The drummer is flat out crazy good. Wish I had heard the whole disc a few times before I saw them. yeah same here. I think they might've played some songs from the first album as well. but that drummer is awesome. He was fun to talk to.
  25. Went to Best Buy to grab The Incident, and of course they didn't have it. So I got In Absentia instead... haven't listened to it in ages, & forgot how utterly fantastic it is.
